Today should have been like any other Friday. My pack-mate Jenna was hosting a party in honour of our recent victory claiming more territory and taking over the Desert Hill pack. Being the alpha I should be the one hosting the party with the help of my Luna, but The moon goddess had not blessed me with her yet, so Jenna stepped in when I needed party planning. Having to buy for the whole pack, she asked for me to meet up with her and her friend to help push a cart and pay the Bill. Today should have been like any other Friday. Wake up, train the new pack warriors, oversee business with my beta, attend the victory party.

My pack-mate Jenna was hosting the party for me in honour of our most recent victory. Being the alpha I should be the one hosting the party with the help of my Luna, but the moon goddess had not blessed me with her yet, so Jenna stepped in when I needed party planning. Her deep interest in Pinterest often worked to my advantage and she eagerly took on the tasks. The pack also appreciated her enthusiasm and determination to make each party better than the last.

Over the last few years our territory has been rapidly expanding. Since becoming Alpha over ten years ago I was determined to acquire as much land and pack members as possible.

The previous Alpha, my father, was more concerned with women and alcohol than looking after the pack and expanding. He let the town fall into ruin, and forced pack members into poverty. Many sickened and no new pups were born. Consumed with rage, I counted down the days until my birthday. As soon as I was of age, I challenged my father to be Alpha. My birth right. Ripping his throat out, the Sky Valley Pack was now mine to rebuild.

I warred with rival packs until they caved, members either became rogues or joined my pack. I was fortunate that many found their mates in my pack so the chances of a coup dwindled significantly. Each pack we acquired I always searched for her, my Luna, but she was never there.

These victory parties were important for the pack, a way to welcome the new members and introduce everyone over food and alcohol. The newly acquired members were usually quiet at first, afraid of being executed or forced out as rogues. My pack and reputation as Alpha was strict and offered no second chances when it came to new members. If they chose to remain, I demanded their loyalty.

The Desert Hill pack was my latest victory. Months and months of planning with my beta led us to success with minor casualties. With this victory, another party. Sometimes I couldn’t tell which made Jenna happier.

Having to buy for the whole pack, she asked for me to meet up with her and her friend to help push a cart and pay the Bill. Buying meat for the pack would take up its own cart, not to mention the abundance of alcohol, mix and chips that were required for the ever hungry wolves of my pack.

My beta, Stew, couldn’t be trusted to help with shopping. When it came to buying food, he was worse than Jenna. Each shopping trip he made it his mission to buy out a Costco. So here I was, pushing a cart.

As I entered the store, I saw them walk towards me. My eyes locked on Jenna’s friend, I hadn’t met this woman before and she didn’t belong to my pack. She must have been a university friends or a co worker. Although we didn’t usually mingle with humans, Jenna was popular with everyone.

A few feet away I could hear Jenna’s greeting, I almost missed it over the sound of my wolf screaming “MATE!”

She was absolutely stunning and everything I had always hoped for in a mate. Blonde, not too tall, curves in all the right places and grey eyes with hints of blue, they looked like a thunder storm and I couldn’t stop staring at her. I kept walking closer, and could smell her scent. Vanilla and mint, my wolf loved the contrast of soft and strong scents coming from her. But another scent was mixed in, human.

My heart sank, why would the moon goddess give me a human as my Luna ?
