We all had sins that we were running away from.

Demons we willingly danced with, then denied when given the chance.

In Quent everyone had secrets, it was simply the natural order of things. If I was being honest, only the children didn't have their hands stained.

I sipped on my now warm hot chocolate, as soft breathing tickled my thighs. I ran my fingers through his black curls and gazed out of the window that gave me a view that overlooked the city.

The closest a commoner could get to royalty, to being cleansed of the carnage that the ground carried. I sighed and placed my hand on my neck, where I knew his mark was. It was something that brought me turmoil, but it was undeniable, that our mingled scents comforted Amell more than my pride would admit.

Thunder rumbled and it began to pour outside, I took his sleeping body and put him in his room before I made my way to the couch and waited for exactly 2:22 a.m. to strike.

'Her Majesty,' a voice broke the silence of my decently sized apartment and I sat with my legs crossed and one arm on the armrest supporting my face.

'Hello Duke,' I said, not bothering to correct him about my title, it was a waste of breath, he was a stubborn one.

'The council requests an audience with you,' he said and I glanced at him before continuing to watch the show I had on.

'And pray tell, what would the council want with their discarded queen?' I asked sarcastically and Duke sighed.

'My queen, they request your audience in connection to the treason that you had been right about,' he said tiredly and I glanced at him again.

'I told you that cockroach couldn't be trusted, I had told them and they didn't listen,' I said bitterly and he sighed again.

'The council is uneasy without an unbiased ruler, the people are starting to notice the absence of power,' he tried and I glanced at him, noting that taking his brother's place was aging him.

'The people, those very same people that rejected me and my child, they're heir, after the loss of my amare and you expect me to hold some type of sympathy for them?' I asked and he flinched, because it was the truth.

'It is his birth right,' he protested quietly and this time I turned to face him properly.

'And I assure you, when his time comes, he will take over the thrown and rip any spineless weasel that lied their way into the thrown,' I said and he kept quiet, because he knew I spoke the truth.

The true heir could not be defeated, they would never perish, this was the blessing the Goddess had placed in their lineage.

'What of... Micah?' he asked timidly knowing that it was a sensitive topic for me.

I sighed feeling like the weight of the world had been dropped on my shoulders, my heart squeezed and the pain I'd managed to put aside came bursting through and silent tears fell from my eyes.

There were times when I wanted to curse this bond, to be done with the agony and other times, they reminded me of how deeply I still loved him.

I quickly wiped my tears before finally turning towards Duke where he kneeled with arm supporting his upper body on the floor and the other resting on his knee.

He glanced up at me when he noticed my silence and his indigo eyes met my broken dark brown eyes.

'I don't know,' I said in a whisper with pain evident in my voice and he nodded before standing up and sighing.

'I'm growing tired of being this make shift king in place of my brother,' he finally complained and I wiped my watery eyes as I laughed.

'Be careful of the council, they will not be pleased to find out about Poppy,' I warned and he huffed.

'Its so stupid, I can't bond with my amare, because of something as stupid as race,' he sulked and I laughed again.

'That's understandable Duke, but remember Poppy is the last of his kind, and we all understand that chaos can never taste power,' I advised and he huffed before he waved and opened a portal where he bitterly made his way back to his fancy castle.

I sighed and looked up at the wooden pattern on the roof and sighed again.

Tomorrow was Monday, and like every other Monday before it, I had a bad feeling.
