The mist was dense and mysterious.

In the mirror, love bites, varying in shades of green and purple, decorated the slender and fair collarbone of the woman.

Evelyn, feeling shy, put on her pajamas and pushed open the bathroom door, immediately spotting the handsome man on the sofa with his eyes closed.

Upon hearing the door open, the man looked over.

Every time Evelyn saw his deep pupils, she was captivated. Even if there was no hint of emotion when his gaze met hers.

"Is there something wrong?" Evelyn understood him too well, just from one look, and she knew what he was thinking.

Nathan was bare-chested, presenting his exquisite collarbone. His jawline was straight, his side profile was cold, screaming prestige from all angles. However, his voice was void of any warmth.

"She's back."

At first, Evelyn was confused, but in the next second, she instantly realized who he was referring to. It was as if a bucket of cold water was splashed over her, almost causing her to stumble from the shock.

Nathan seemed to be oblivious to her shock, hitting her again with his next words, "Let's get a divorce."

The spine of Evelyn stiffened, her breath became slightly irregular. She clenched her fist, disguising the dull pain and panic deep within her heart.

They had just made love, yet he...

Evelyn wanted to ask him, what had she done wrong, but the words got stuck in her throat. She suddenly couldn’t ask.

She suddenly took a deep breath, striving to stabilize her voice, trying to appear natural.

"Okay."

Upon hearing her resolute answer, Nathan's brows subtly furrowed.

Underneath the lamp's glow, her brows and eyes were tinged with a hint of crimson, a mixture of innocence and desire that made him divert his gaze. "The property certification will be brought over by the assistant tomorrow," he added.

The money should be the last thing tying them together.

In her eyes flickered a few traces of self-mockery, and Evelyn nodded in agreement.

"Let's sleep."

"Mm."

They both lay side by side in bed, each engrossed in their thoughts. Evelyn felt a heavy weight in her chest, making even breathing seem a burden.

Her past seemed unusually vivid before her eyes, each memory bearing down on her.

She remembered the year when she was utterly helpless after her parents passed away. He had lent her a hand, offering to marry her and thus pulling her out of the abyss.

The days after their marriage were filled with his tenderness and care, which made her fall for him defenselessly.

Yet, she didn't manage to win his heart in those three years, his old flame had returned, leaving her as the complete loser...

A hot hand landed on her waist, startling Evelyn. The sound of her sudden gasp roused Nathan whose voice bore a hint of huskiness.

"Insomnia again?"

Tears welled up in Evelyn eyes, feeling an overwhelming need to spill out her grievances. But when the words reached her mouth they mutated to, "I'll fall asleep soon."

She needed to hold onto her dignity to honor the nuances of those three years.

The night was agonizingly long.

The next day.

After Evelyn woke, she instinctively glanced at her side, finding it empty. A faint sense of melancholy flashed through her heart.

She went downstairs as usual, and Ms. Wendy had already prepared breakfast.

Evelyn stared at the wolfberry and bird's nest porridge in her bowl and paused.

Ms. Wendy explained with a smile, "Madam, the master left early today. Before he left, he instructed that you startled easily in your sleep last night and needed to restore some energy."

Evelyn scooped a spoonful of bird's nest and wolfberry from the bowl, which seemed a bit glaring for some reason. She sighed, "It won't be the case for long."

Thinking about Nathan doing these things for someone else, she felt a bit suffocated. She rubbed her puffing eyelids, put her head down, and found herself unable to eat.

"What?" Ms. Wendy seemed to have not heard clearly.

"Never mind, can you turn on the TV for me?" Evelyn shook her head, trying to perk up.

She was used to watching financial news during breakfast, trying to pick up snippets of his news from the mouths of others.

While changing channels, a voice overflowed from the TV, "The recently skyrocketing movie star Sophia Reed has returned from abroad for her career and has indicated that she will be developing long-term at home."

"The president of Carter Enterprises went to greet her... suspected love affair exposed. Fans were picking her up at the airport, the scene was grand."

From a distance, Evelyn saw a woman, stylishly dressed, of ethereal quality. This was the woman who walked out of the airport in a graceful manner,Sophia, who was the moonlight in Nathan's heart.

Beside her, there was a tall figure. He was wearing a well-tailored suit. His straight posture was especially eye-catching in the crowd.

It turned out that he went to the scene yesterday. Evelyn tightly clenched her hand on the table, her heart momentarily numb with pain.

Ms. Wendy shook slightly, her eyes becoming worried, "This, madam..."

"Don't call me madam anymore, change the channel."

Someone rang the doorbell, and Ms. Wendy went to open the door.

Evelyn looked up and saw Ethan, the assistant standing next to Nathan.

"Miss Evelyn, here's the divorce agreement." Ethan went straight to the point and handed her a document.

She slightly lowered her eyes, hiding the emotions in them. She asked in a dazed voice,

"Do you have a pen?"

Ethan was taken aback for a moment, and then handed her the pen that he usually kept in his pocket.

Without hesitation, Evelyn took the pen, flipped directly to the last page, and signed it decisively. The strokes of her signature were graceful and resolute. The final stroke seemed to sever their past three years together. She then pushed the pen forward and said, "Thank you."

There was a flicker of surprise in Ethan's eyes. He had not expected her to be so resolute.

"Don't you want to think it over, Miss Evelyn?"

Evelyn gave Ethan a puzzled look. Wasn't it Nathan who was eager to get a divorce?

Ethan lowered his head to avoid the unexpected gaze of Evelyn. He was just thinking about Nathan’s strange demeanor when he was leaving.

"I misspoke." He then took the hot agreement and left.

Evelyn looked out the window, a stifling sensation clogged her chest...

Her appetite for the porridge in her hand diminished. She lethargically put it down and was just about to head upstairs when she received a call from the hospital.

At the other end of the phone, whatever was said made her grip on the mobile tighten, the drumming of her heartbeat resounding within her chest so loud that she didn't even notice when the screen went dark.

After hanging up, her eyes instantly reddened and she hurriedly dashed upstairs.

Ms. Wendy watched her abnormal behavior with some worry, sighing inwardly as she glanced at the untouched bird's nest and wolfberries in the bowl.

She couldn't comprehend how two people, seemingly so deeply in love, could divorce so abruptly.

Just the day before, the young master had personally celebrated his wife's birthday.

...

In the afternoon, Evelyn calmed her emotions, packed up her things, and as she was heading downstairs, she bumped into Nathan who had just returned home.

"How come you're back?" Evelyn looked at him, puzzled.

"Why wouldn't I come back home?" Nathan replied nonchalantly.

Nathan's gaze scanned the neatly packed luggage in the living room.

He then swept over her slender silhouette, the thought of her imminent departure, thus delineating their boundaries, caused his brows to furrow slightly.

"You don't have to move out so soon. The property certification will be transferred to your account today."

Evelyn nodded, but after a moment of hesitation, she still asked, "Are you going to marry her?"
