Chapter

I was made to stand in just my underwear in front of the full length mirror as the seamstress worked the long, white wedding gown unto my body.

After helping me with it, the dress was zipped at the back, making it glue to my body like it was a second skin.

"Wow!!" The seamstress let out an exasperated gasp as her eyes feasted on my whole body.

"Never have I seen someone look so perfect in a wedding gown." She praised with a wide smile dancing on her face.

I forced out a smile as I stared at my figure through the mirror. My long brown hair had been combed down my back, making my pale face look smaller than it already is.

The tip of my hair sprawled over the wedding gown, giving it a much better glow even though it had been adorned with numerous silver linings and stones.

Staring at my face through the mirror, I had never looked so beautiful ever.. so perfect but why??

Today is supposed to be the second happiest day of a lady that's about to wed her beloved but why don't I feel happy? Why do I still have to force a smile on my face even when being praised?

Why does my mind keep going back to those pair of hazel eyes, those dimples that becomes existent whenever he smiles at me. He was the only one that could see through me.

The one that kept me safe during my time at the orphanage home... he was the also the one I couldn't have but why do I feel like I'm betraying him?

Just then, the bell to the boutique jingled pulling me out of my reverie. My eyes moved to the entrance, my heart bubbling with excitement, rather anticipation and for the umpteenth time, I was disappointed when I saw a stranger wall in instead.

She promised she would be here, she said she was going to come with me for my dress fitting so why isn't she here now? Suddenly, I heard my phone ringing from within my purse.

Before I could bother myself, the seamstress had already helped my pick up my purse.

"Thank you." I whispered as I collected the purse from her and brought out my ringing phone.

My heart lept with joy when I saw my mother's name flahsing on my phone's screen. I picked it without wasting any more time and placed the phone on my ear.

"Mom.. are you running late? Yo.."

"I won't be joining you at the boutique." Her sharp voice rang from the other end of the call, cutting off my excitement.

"W...what??" My voice broke but it wasn't enough to portray the disappointment I felt.

"Something important came up so I can't go for your dress fitting. Hopefully, the dress is to your lik..." The rest of her voice became distant as I pulled the phone from my ear.

I let out a dry laugh as I stared at my reflection through the mirror. What was I expecting?? That she would miraculously change overnight after I agreed to this marriage that I never wanted in the first place?

That she would finally treat me as her own daughter instead of a stranger?? As always, she never failed to leave me disappointed. I thought that after making this decision, she would finally see me as someone worth her affection too.

Was her affection too much to give? Why do I have to sacrifice everything I have for the tiniest bit of attention from her while my step sister, the adopted one gets it without having to go through any form of stress??

After my mother had dropped the bombshell, I didn't fell any need to continue with the dress fitting so I unzipped the gown myself and pulled it off my body.

"Let me help you.." The seamstress said when she noticed what I was doing but I didn't listen to her. I just couldn't wait to be out of the boutique.

After putting on my normal wear, I was about to leave the when I heard my phone ringing again. A small smile stretched my lips when I saw Savanah, my best friend's name on the screen.

Finally, someone that actually cares about me. I picked the call and placed it on my ear.

"Savanah!!" I called out cheerfully as I walked out of the boutique's building, towards the spot my car was parked.

"Riley is back!" Her urgent voice uttered, sending a wave of shock course through my body.

"Wh...what do you mean she's back??" I stuttered out in disbelief.

I couldn't believe what she was saying. Riley was supposed to be in Europe, paying for what she did to me years ago.

"I just saw her coming out of an OB-GYN ward myself with Steven." Savanna explained. An OB-GYN ward... what is she doing there and and with my fiancée of all people?

"That isn't all..." Savanah paused. She sounded nervous like she was about to drop a bombshell.

"What is it?" I was getting rather impatient with her stalling.

"I..I overheard their conversation Avery and... she seemed to be carrying his baby." She answered.

I felt my world go still when she told me the news. It can't be... Steven wouldn't do this. I know we don't love each other as his eyes had always been for Riley but he would never throw away our families' alliance like this.

"I'm so sorry but I thought you should know. Are you okay?" I heard Savanah ask in concern.

I took in a shaky breath to calm myself; "I'm fine, thank you so much." I replied before ending the call.

I stood at my spot, staring nowhere in particular as I let Savannah's words replay over and over in my head. As reality dawned on me, it only increased my rage.

Steven actually impregnated her!! While I was here, upholding my end of the truce and trying out a stupid wedding gown like a fucking idiot!!

One thing I hated the most was being treated like a fool and what Steven did was way worse than I had imagined. He had the guts to impregnate my step sister even after knowing our history together!!

The betrayal stung so hard that I badly wanted to do something to pay him back.

"Well, standing here isn't going to do anything." I heard Lydia, my wolf say from within. I had almost forgotten she has been there, listening from the beginning.

I was about to reply when I felt my phone ding, indicating I had just received a message. I stared at the message and noticed it was from the devil himself.

"My office!! Now!!" It read.

"Even after everything, he still had the guts to order us around??" Lydia fumed as shs paced angrily within.

"Not for long." I muttered and got into my car.

I started the car's engine and drove off immediately, my destination set in mind. No one makes a fool of me, not even you Steven!!
