The sun light shined into my dorm room window, it was Saturday morning.
My dorm mate, Alice was up moving around looking for something.
"What are you looking for?" I picked up my phone to check the time. It was 7:30!
"I'm looking for a shirt but not just any shirt! I met this guy last night and he wants to get coffee." Alice said as she made her way over to my closest and than back to hers.
She was my only friend I made here but it wasn't like I was looking for any friends anyway. I tired to stay focused. I was going into my 2nd year of college and I wanted to write for a magazine, a paper, or maybe even a book. I was determined to stay focused and away from the party side of college.
"Vee! What am I going to wear! He is a college man, a doctor man!" Alice threw herself on my bed in defeat.
"Okay, okay let me get up and I'll help!" As I sat up in my bed there was a knock at the door.
"Veronica Ransom" someone yelled from the other side of the door.
Veronica was my real name but no-one called me that except the mail boy who brought us our mail in the dorm rooms.
I jumped out of bed and opened the door.
Franklin the mail boy, a tall red haired boy with freckles. He was the caption of the wrestling team and football team plus worked in the office for the college to pay for his apartment off campus.
"There is a package for you pretty lady!" He smiles
My long brown hair was in a messy bun on the top of my head, my green eyes still barely open and I had nothing but an over sized t-shirt on.
"Thanks Frankie but its to fucking early" I took the box shook me head and shut the door.
I threw the box on the bed I could careless what was in it. It was now 8 in the morning on a Saturday, the one-day I slept in, no homework, no studying, just relaxing and I was wide awake. I decided to go to the coffee shop on campus. I was already up no point to go back to bed now.
"A ball! A Masked Ball! Fancy who is this from?" Alice says as I turn around from my closest and look at the now opened box on my bed.
"I have no idea and wasn't even going to open it" I laughed
"Well are you going or are we still heading to the football game?"
I picked up the box and read the invitation.
"You are invited to join us tonight at 9, to start the October month right. Halloween is only around the corner! In your box you will find a beautiful mask come dressed to impress winner gets a grand prize! Come to Hollow Park follow the path all the way down where you will find the castle of horror! See you there. "
I looked up at Alice. She was just staring trying to read my face but how could she I wasn't even sure how I felt about it yet.
"Doesn't say who it's from, just says it's in Hollow Park at 9" I said. Looking up from the paper I had in my hands.
"Well now that doesn't answer my question! Are we going to the football game or this?"Alice wanted an answer.
This ball thing was tonight and I had no costume and no money to spend on one.
"It would have to be a hard no for me I have no money and nothing to wear."
I didn't really care if I went to the party or not, but a big part of me really wanted to know who sent this box and why. That was the big question, why would someone invite me of all people when I barely go out.
"I think you should go and find out who sent the box your always working so hard writing doing this or that for school you never take time to yourself" Alice was out of breath and staring at me with her big brown eyes her natural curls fell prefect on her face her dark skin made her glow and my bestfriend was beautiful, but she was not messing around she wanted me to go enjoy myself or maybe because she was just as curious as I was about who sent the box.
"We will go together and be beautiful princesses. Something!" Alice said looking at me.
"Of course we are going I wouldn't go alone ... well maybe I would " I laughed knowing I've gone to places without her and always ended up leaving an hour in.
"Okay well I'm going to go meet "my doctor " man well talk later about tonight and here!" Alice said throwing money at me as she headed toward the door.
I picked up the money thinking to myself how greatful I am to have her as a friend.. I got dressed and headed out the door myself. All I could think of on my walk was that box and now the stupid party that I some how agreed to. I wonder who could of sent that I don't really know anyone into Halloween like that on campus but than again I didn't know many people at the college.
I walked in to the coffee shop and went up to the counter to my surprise it wasn't as packed as it is during the week at this time. Maybe I should start coming in on Saturday morning with a book I thought as I walk to my normal table.
As I sat there I felt like eyes were on me but I didn't see anyone looking at me. The box could be freaking me out and now I think people are watching me.
I walked back to my dorm after sitting drinking my coffee looking through my phone. As I walked I listened to my music when I ran in to someone. He looked at me his pale skin and his gray eyes made him stand out.
"You should watch where you are going" the young man said with a slight smile.
I smiled back and apologized he was very handsome dark black hair long but short, beautiful gray eyes and dressed like a businessman.
He laughed and waved it off walking away.
I ran back to the dorm to grab my keys to head to the mall.
When I walked in to the mall I when straight to my favorite dress shop.
"Hey Vee!" The two girls behind the counter said as I walked in.
"Hey" I said and smiled big I walked over to one of the girls and asked her to find me a blue dress that match the mask. I pulled out my phone showing her a picture of the beautiful Venetian Mask that was blue and gold and inspired by royal crowns with silver rhinestones and ribbon ties to easily wear.
"OH! I have the perfect dress." She said as she ran to the back.
When she came back she held in her hands the most beautiful dark blue dress that reached the floor and had a small flair out, it fit to my form well, showing all my best cruves but I was afraid to ask the price.
"I love this dress but I doubt I'll have enough for this." I said as I took off the dress.
"OH don't be silly we will work with what you have it goes perfectly with your mask." The girl said as she took the dress and got it ready for me to leave with it.
I pulled out my purse, 150 dollars later I had a beautiful princess costume ready for tonight.
The rest of my Saturday I spent in my dorm room trying to study and get some work done so I could have at least one day of sleeping in before classes Monday.
"Look at this dress!" Alice screamed as she swung open the door.
Laying on my bed, looking up at her from my book I see a beautiful long red dress with two splits on each side. In the other hand she was holding a red and gold feathered mask.
"Oh my I fucking Love it!" I screamed and ran over to look at the dress closely.
"I found this thing at a antique store!" Alice said so proud of her finding.
"I too found a dress." I said as I walked to the closet and pulled out the beautiful dark blue dress.
"That is amazing and matches so well!" Her eyes were wide open. She had a smile from ear to ear.
