Chapter

Accustomed to the rogue life, I've come to learn that you shouldn't trust no one in this world. Betrayed by my best friend, cast aside by my father then shunned by the rest of the pack, just trust no one. Still, even if life brings you to trust no one, learn to appreciate the little things in life like a bath which is what I'm taking now. Not in an actual tub but in a lake.

My wolf and I decided to take a break from work and run around in the vast woods. Of course there's different territories in these woods that I shouldn't be on but the likelihood of them catching me is quite slim. I'm not a weak wolf nor am I a pushover so, why should I cower away when my wolf and I need a little vacation.

Keeping to my thoughts, I put myself on auto—pilot. I want to think about the life that I currently live. I want to find ways to get ahead so that I don't have to worry. Though I'm a wolf, I shouldn't slack when it comes to my well—being.

"Maybe I should work on my credit a bit more," I mumbled while combing my fingers through my curls, "I could buy a house within a year or so if I commit," I mumbled again, noting that I was squeaky clean.

Having things in my name, that's a dream of mine. Owning everything in my name, that's paradise to me. My pack left me with nothing, only the clothes on my back and the shoes on my feet. I was maybe sixteen when they decided to throw me out because I wasn't what my father wanted. My father wanted a boy and my mother simply did whatever my father told her to do. My mother was extremely submissive while my father, eh, he had a few screws loose in the head.

Am I angry? Furious? Possibly but I can't tell much anymore. "Zari," my wolf — Kari — spoke up, "Get dressed already," Kari demanded, "You don't want to run again," I asked. My wolf was quiet for a brief moment before she answered, "No, I've had my fix for the week," Kari told me while I got dressed.

"We have a three day weekend, I'd like to play more human games," Kari said cheerfully. I chuckled, knowing that Kari couldn't wait to shoot down some noobs in a few of her favorite games. I, on the other hand, couldn't wait to open up a book with a cup of wine so I could rest my feet this weekend.

I was already walking towards my home, taking my time when my nose caught wind of unfamiliar scents. "Zari," Kari whined in my head which urged me to shift swiftly and break off into a full sprint.

This is not the first time that I've been chased nor would it be the second. A pack would usually ignore a rogue if they were far from their territory but this one, they didn't care how far I was, they would always give chase.

"Zari," Kari whined viciously.

A pure white wolf emerged from in front of me which caused me to skid and take a sharp right. A few other wolves soon joined the snarling wolf while I swore for not noticing them. "Do we fight," Kari asked, "Hummm, give me my current surroundings and widen the range," I ordered.

A wolf is born with some sort of ability. It can be offensive, defensive, pretty much anything nowadays but the gift is only given once the wolf emerges. I don't know why it's like that nor have I ever questioned it.

"Take a right here," Kari yelled. I obeyed, cutting a surprise attack short in the process before more wolves emerged, "Duck," Kari commanded which again, I obeyed, completely dodging another surprise attack. "Left, tree, up, jump, sharp right," Kari commanded.

Taking a left, a sturdy tree emerged which I climbed up. The wolves followed, hitting the tree, some even breaking their necks from impact before I jumped, my body curling as I landed behind them. The sharp right was next and in a matter of seconds, a few of our enemies fell while I gained a good minute or two on them.

"Reinforcements have been called, sharp left then book it with enhancement," Kari told me. Once I took a sharp left, enhancing my speed and stamina in the process, I was able to run away from the wolves pursuing me, however, we were cut short when a group of wolves came into view.

"JUMP," Kari screamed.

I jumped, body flying through the sky as my momentum pushed me further away from the stunned wolves. I swear each chase becomes more elaborate than the next but before Kari could give me any more instructions, I was thrown out of the sky. Kari whined from the pain while I managed to throw the massive wolf off of me.

I managed to get to my feet, paws digging into the soil while other wolves caught up to me. Kari and I locked eyes with a wolf that had a strange scent. It was almost like raw nature while another lingering close to this wolf smelt like a waterfall.

The wolf and I circled each other for a brief moment before it decided to lunge towards me. Quickly dodging, I saw an opening for the wolf's neck but before I went in for the kill, Kari stopped me, "What is it Kari," I hissed since the wolf and I were now circling each other again. It was the perfect moment to get rid of this wolf and try to book it once more so why did she stop me?

"Attraction," Kari huffed.

"W—What," I asked, our silent communications unknown to the wolves lingering behind the strangely larger wolf. It didn't take long for the waterfall wolf to emerge or the white wolf and his goonies either. There was no escaping this without a few wounds, "S—Stop please," Kari whined when I tried to attack the waterfall wolf.

I groaned which caused my wolf to howl loudly.

"What.In.The.Fuck!"

"What do you call those people who get married," Kari asked while I dodged raw nature.

"Fucked people," I answered sarcastically, dodging the waterfall in the midst of raw nature.
