Lisa's POV

"Ahhh!" I screamed as I hit my leg on one of the small stools in the sitting room, almost falling because of that.

"You gotta be careful, Lisa," my husband said, squinting his face a bit to show his displeasure. "You have to relax. Sit down and let us help you. You do have a child, Lisa."

It was only a little mistake. I felt he was being a bit overboard with his protective habits. Was I supposed to just sit around doing nothing, just because I was pregnant? I didn't think so but I had to let things be at that moment.

"Don't stress it, Johnny. I managed to reply as I walked to a sofa and slowly sat. "Mmph! I'll be more careful next time. I promise."

I felt a rush in my stomach and I knew that hunger had arrived to receive what was due to it. It was only 7 am, but I felt like I'd been hungry for so long. I guess it came with the pregnancy.

"I'm quite hungry, Johnny. What's for breakfast?" I asked, as my stomach made yet another grumbling sound. "I think I need to go make some breakfast."

"Aren't you always hungry, Lisa? You might eat the whole house soon," he joked, rubbing his hands on his stomach to drive his point home even better.

"You do know that I have two mouths to feed, don't you? Surely, I can't be blamed for that, can I? You played a big part in it. If you didn't plant this child inside me, perhaps you wouldn't have any reason to be scared I'll eat up your house."

A grin appeared on his face and I took a bit of my time to admire the man I married. His beautiful set of teeth just stood out each time he smiled. He had a sky blue polo on and a pair of jeans shorts and he looked so good in them. It reminded me of what attracted me to him; his very simple nature, despite being from a wealthy family.

"You're still going to sss your mom and your sister, aren't you?" He asked.

"Yeah Sure! I'm sure they'll be so delighted to see me. I can imagine how excited they'll be when I tell them that I'm pregnant for the love of my whole life. I wish you were tagging along though, but I understand that you're busy."

I tried to use words to make him agree to tag along without having to tell him. My mom had been asking after him for quite a while. I thought it'd be great if we went together. He had other plans.

"You know that I'd love to go with you. I'll be there if I can. You do know that, don't you?" He asked, picking up one of the gifts as he began to wrap it in a foil.

It was one of the things I loved about him; his willingness to always help out in any way that he could, without being told. He carefully wrapped the gifts, treating them with immense care, as I watched his skilled hands do some magic on each gift.

"Breakfast is ready!"

We both turned to see my best friend, Mandy, at the dining table, with a tray in her hands. It had been three years, yet Mandy looked as beautiful as she was before she left. Her curvy body could make any man do whatever she wanted them to. She had always had that charm, even back in school. Lots of guys always flooded around her, seeking just a bit of her attention. She got her way with just about anything and everything. She was simply stunning!

"Oh, you made breakfast? I'm so hungry, I said, as I immediately got up and began to walk toward the dining table.

"What's for breakfast, honey?" Johnny asked as soon as I sat.

"Bread, scrambled eggs, tea and grits. I think I'll have tea though. You know I don't really like grits." As I spoke, I took out a flat, ceramic plate and placed it in front of me. Then, I took out five slices of bread and put them on the plate. "This must have taken a lot of effort from you, Mandy. Thank you so much."

"Don't mention," she replied, pulling out a seat and sitting. "It's the least I could do to repay you all for your wonderful hospitality. What could I have done without you guys?"

I smiled. Mandy had left town about three years ago and only just returned. She had called me to ask if she could stay with me and my family for a while until she was able to get her own place as she didn't want to stay with her mom who lived not so far from us and after talking to John, I finally consented. It had been about a month since she began to stay with us and she was nothing short of sweet and very helpful, even to Johnny's company.

Johnny soon joined in and we all had breakfast. As we ate, I did well to avoid eye contact with Sarah, John's mom, who wasn't particularly nice or loving towards me. We barely saw eye to eye and she never seemed to want me as her son's wife. Thankfully, Johnny loved me enough.

After we got done eating, I thanked everyone, stood up, and was ready to go. Mandy grabbed some of the gifts that Johnny had wrapped while I grabbed the rest. "Put those down," Johnny said, forcing me to drop them back on the centre table, as he picked them up instead.

We walked to the car and I opened the boot for them to put in the gifts, which they did. Then I got into the car and shut the door. "Take care," I heard them say as I smiled and waved to them before starting my car. I drove off

On the way, I thought a lot about my mother. I hadn't seen her for over two years and I'd missed her so much. "Monalisa, my baby," she'd always call me, always wearing a broad smile. She hardly called me Lisa, she once told me it wasn't my name and it was improper to shorten people's names as they'd lose their meaning. She was proudly old-fashioned and I loved her so much.

I yawned, feeling a bit weak. It must've been the food I ate. I felt heavy too so I thought I had overfed myself due to the hunger that I felt. I decided that I was going to get some sleep as soon as I was done with the pleasantries at my mother's place.

"The goddess forbids!" I screamed, swerving to my right as I almost collided with another vehicle. I felt like cursing the driver but it was my fault. I had taken my eyes off the road for a moment, as my eyes closed up a bit. I felt weird.

"I need to get some rest," I said to myself, concluding that I was going to park somewhere and have a nap. I applied my brakes as soon as I approached a nice spot but it wouldn't work. I had checked the car the night before and everything was in order. I couldn't understand what the problem was.

I applied the brakes again and it still wouldn't work. I got scared; very scared. I did my best to evade some cars from the opposite direction, whilst doing my best to not hit the ones in front of me. I was also drowsy at the same time so I didn't have so much control of the situation.

I swerved to my left to avoid clashing with another car. Little did I know that I was headed towards a cliff. I tried to divert once again but the car wouldn't respond.

"Help!!!" I screamed to no one in particular. I shut my eyes, attempting to summon my wolf, but I couldn't. I was far too weak to do that. "I have a baby, somebody help me, please!" I kept screaming, struggling to gain control to no avail. I could feel sweat dripping down my face and my hands shaking vigorously.

As the car approached the sea, I knew I only had one option. I had to call for help from my husband. It was my only hope. I activated the mind link and called out to him over and over again but he didn't respond. I felt cold. The world became a lonely place at that moment and I could only watch my car speeding toward the sea.

As the car crashed against the cliff, I shut my eyes, finally resigning to my fate. I felt a bout of pain in my legs and my chest as I bumped into the steering. But, the car didn't stop moving. In a flash, I found myself inside the sea, with no strength whatsoever to push the door open nor to swim, had I succeeded in opening the door. I knew I was close to the end.

A smile appeared on my face as I recalled the good old days when all three of us were in school; my husband, Mandy and me. We'd always hang out after classes at restaurants or cinemas. One time, we went to the zoo and saw a lot of beautiful animals. That was the day that Johnny proposed to me. It was the happiest day of my life.

I remembered running to tell Mandy about it and how she hugged me so tightly as I broke the news to her. I was going to marry my friend. It was the dream of every girl, especially when that man was one as handsome and wealthy as Johnny and the girl was from a very poor home like mine.

"Mandy sweetie, would you do me the favour of being my bridesmaid?" I had asked Mandy a few months before the wedding. She smiled at me and nodded and I felt so happy. I trusted her more than anyone else I knew. I was delighted to have her by my side.

After the wedding, she had to leave to study abroad. We agreed that she'd stay for a few months before that, but for some reason, she left earlier. She left no notes, no messages, nothing. We were supposed to be best friends. I couldn't understand why she did what she did. But I had bigger things to worry about.
