Seraphina Marlowe stared at the vast sheet of white in front of her, totally stunned.
A second ago, she clearly remembered standing on the Oscar stage, talking big—okay, fine, giving a super fired-up speech. Then boom, a lightning strike hit her out of nowhere, and the next second she was here.
So... she was dead?
"Congratulations, Host. You have been selected by System 666 as a spendthrift mission traveler. Your task is to travel through different small worlds, waste money to save villainous Big Bosses, and use money to tell them that the world is actually a pretty wonderful place. Also, to let them know there is nothing in this world money cannot solve. And if there is, that only means there still isn't enough money."
Seraphina Marlowe glanced around and finally spotted a floating tablet.
She reached out and poked it. Nothing happened. The tablet looked like it had been nailed right into the air.
"Host, do you agree?"
Seraphina Marlowe stared at the tablet in confusion. She was sure now. The thing talking was this tablet, and it was some kind of system.
Seriously? That OP?
[Scanning host. Beep. Binding successful.]
Seraphina Marlowe: "..."
Feeling that weird, subtle connection with System 666, Seraphina Marlowe really wanted to swear. She had not even said yes yet!
"Host, do you have any other questions?"
"First, I'm not a host. I'm a goddess. Second, if I do your missions for you, what exactly do I get out of it?"
"When your points reach a certain amount, one of your wishes can be fulfilled. For example, coming back from the dead."
"Pass. As for resurrection, forget it. It's just a body."
"Don't you want to live again?"
"Nope."
The system got a little panicked. Come on, in this day and age, there were still people who didn't want to be alive?
Seraphina Marlowe said nothing. Her fingers started tapping all over the tablet. Then suddenly, her eyes flickered, and a huge smile spread across her face. In a low, eerie voice, she said, "System~"
"What, what do you want?" The system suddenly felt a chill run through its entire code. For no reason at all, it had the strong sense this host was kind of terrifying.
"I just realized something. This whole throwing-money-around-to-look-cool thing? Yeah, that suits me perfectly. I live for showing off."
System 666: "..."
It felt like it had bound itself to someone seriously out of the ordinary. A second ago, she had rejected it so firmly too.
"[Proceed with transmission?]" A host like this... better send her into a mission world fast and let someone else deal with the chaos.
"[Transmitting...]"
"Damn it!" Before Seraphina Marlowe could start cursing System 666 properly, a wave of dizziness slammed into her, and her whole body dropped into a spinning blur.
This was a modern world.
The female lead, Bertha Hollinworth, was the eldest daughter of the Hollinworth family. She and the male lead, Aidan Voss, had been tied together by a childhood engagement long ago. But Aidan had stayed overseas for years, and Bertha, as the heroine of the story, obviously wasn't about to marry some fiancé she'd never even met.
Because of that engagement, Aidan was also called back from abroad and arranged to start freshman year at the country's top academy, Shengying Noble Academy.
The moment he got back, he saw Bertha tugging and pulling at some guy. So his first impression of her tanked on the spot. In his mind, he was basically being cuckolded before the marriage had even started.
Out of spite, Aidan made a huge scene and casually grabbed a girl from school, claiming she was his girlfriend. When Bertha heard about it, of course she was furious too.
Right then, a corruption and bribery scandal broke out at the school, and Bertha happened to stumble onto it by accident. So she started looking into the matter. Since Aidan had been keeping an eye on Bertha the whole time, he naturally found out as well. The two of them cleared up their misunderstanding and decided to investigate together.
In the end, the truth came out. The ones involved in corruption and bribery were the principal and a whole group of teachers. The principal got fired, the misunderstanding between the two leads was resolved, and they ended up living their happy-ever-after.
As for the original host, well, unlucky didn't even begin to cover it. She was that random bargain-bin "girlfriend" Aidan had pulled in on a whim.
And the principal? He was her uncle.
