Chapter 1.
I woke up very early in the morning and prepared myself to go to school, as usual, that morning I was so tired because last night I slept late due to the assignment which I was dealing with hence my sleep wasn't enough. After slow preparation, I headed to the dining room to check if mom had prepared something for me for breakfast and indeed she had prepared me a delicious breakfast as her routine every morning. Afterward, I took my bag and rushed outside where I found my mom washing utensils.
Mom: Nancy how was your night, you woke up early today.
Me: Good morning to you mum, My night was wonderful mom, I had to wake up early because the teacher on duty this week is very strict.
Mom: okay my daughter I understand, you can go to school, I wish you well, have a good day.
Me: Thanks mom good day to you, bye.
I live with my mom alone, I have no brother nor sister and I don't know who my dad is because I have never seen him in my life. Whenever I ask my mom him, she just ignores it and doesn't seem interested in letting me know who he was. My mom is a very hard-working lady she always tries her best to ensure that I get everything I need. I love her so much and never want to let her down.
As I was rushing from a distance I saw my classmate, he was also hurrying to school but when he saw me he waited for me so that I could give him company. Zack is a cool boy in class, he is a tall, chocolate, handsome boy who is less social. I don't know why but I think that was his personality. After walking for some time I reached where he was and we walked together.
Me: Hello Zack, how is your morning.
I greeted him happily
.
Zack: Hello to you Nancy, my morning is quite fine, am happy to see you, we can walk together to school if you don't mind.
Me: It's okay zack, grateful to see you too.
We walked for quite a distance without a word, I wasn't comfortable about that after that long I decided to break the silence. He seemed stressed up by something but I didn't know how I could start asking him since I knew that he didn't like sharing his issues.
Me: Zack is anything bothering you? you seem not to be okay this morning,
Zack:
staring at me
how did you notice that I was not okay? To be real am stressed because my mum has been sick for two months now and her condition seems to worsen every day.
He answered I could see tears in his eyes but he tried controlling himself,
To add to this my dad abandoned us when the hospital bills rose therefore we have no one to help us.
Me: Zack am sorry for all that are going through, your mother will be well if you believe in God, if you pray God will answer your prayers and will also heal your mom, your father abandoned you but you still have God the Father who will never abandon you, Do you always pray?
Zack: No I don't pray, I don't believe even if God exists.
Me: God is with us every day, pray and you will experience him through your prayers, I promise you it is real.
Zack: if God exists then why do we have problems, why should we be sick and suffer?
Me :
This question was tricky for me but I had to try my best to answer him because he seemed discouraged and helpless
. Zack, God gives us problems which he knows that we can handle, everything that happens, happens for a reason, and in addition, God gives us problems to strengthen us and help us grow". I answered him.
Zack: Thanks so much Nancy, I will talk to my family about praying and believing in God so that we can be praying for my mom.
Me: It's okay Zack, my pleasure, May the Lord heal your mom. I will also help you pray for her.
Zack: Thanks for your response, lets get on to school am relieved since have shared with you this.
We then hurried to school and we were there in time, we were among the first to arrive. Everyone went to their sitting position, this was the perfect opportunity for me to go through my assignments and confirm if there was any incompleted or any that needs corrections. After checking through all and content I found out that the class was almost full and my best friend Jane had not arrived yet, what could be wrong with her? As I was thinking about her Zack came to where I sit and ask me to help him solve a mathematics sum which he said was tricky for him to tackle. As we were in the process of the discussion before we even complete the first procedure I felt someone tapping my shoulder. I looked up and it was my friend Jane.
Jane: Good Morning Nancy.
she said staring at Zack, I know she was wondering how the silent Zack started associating with me.
