Bernadette's Pov:
"What? What did you just say doctor?" I yelled with my palms covering my mouth.
"Yes Miss Ramirez... Your fiance won't be able to walk again due to the damages caused by the accident in his spinal cord" The doctor repeated as I buried my face in my palms.
"We are getting married in two days time doctor and here you are saying that he won't be able to walk again?" I screamed on top of my voice.
"That's it Miss... This is exactly what the X-ray says ma'am but with time he might..." The doctor tried saying.
"Oh please doctor stop giving me false hope will you? How will someone who's spinal cord is damaged with time starts walking?"I flared up.
I quickly got up and walked out of the doctor's office as anger burnt in me.
Hot tears streamed down my face.

How will you face the world?
How will you face the whole world in two days time with a crippled as your lawfully wedded husband?

I walked straight into his ward where Lucas was lying like a log of wood.
I quickly mopped my face.
"Darling what did the doctor say? Is my x-ray results out?" Lucas asked as I gulped hard.
I only nodded my head as I dropped my handbag on the stool.
"What happened babe? What's up with that look? What did the doctor say?" He asked anxiously.
I took a deep breath and looked away.
"Nothing...." I mumbled.
"You are not telling me the truth Bernadette.... What happened? What did the doctor tell you?" Lucas snapped.
I quickly clutched my handbag.
"I said nothing Lucas.... Why can't you listen?" I shouted as he became shocked.
He stared at me in disbelief.
"Bernadette? What is going on?" He broke down.
"You really want to know Lucas? Fine.... I'll tell you then,,,, the doctor said that you are now crippled" I shouted out loud.
His jaw dropped in shock........
"What?" Tears streamed down his face.
"Now what? What are you going to do now since you've heard what you actually wanted to hear?" I banged the table.
"No... No....I can't be....the wedding" He cried out.
"What do you mean by it can't be Lucas? That is exactly what your x-ray results said" I replied with a hoarse voice.
"But the wedding Bernadette" He said.
"I don't know Lucas.... I really don't know" I backed him.
"Bernadette will you still stick around?" Lucas asked the most pathetic voice.
"Lucas please.... Don't ask me that! Listen your sister and parents are on their way here please I would like to go away for sometime,,,, I need to cool off" I said as I turned to leave.
"Please Bernadette just don't go away.... The results could be incorrect" He pleaded.
"Lucas am only going to cool off.... That's what I said" I repeated as I grabbed the door handle.
Lucas's parents and sister rushed in to meet him.
I didn't bother to greet them,,, I quickly hurried off.
Lucas's Pov:
Anastasia my younger sister rushed to me and hugged me tightly.
"Brother...." She cried as we ran into each other's arms.
My mom hugged me too...
"The doctor.... The doctor said I can't walk again" I cried out.
"You don't have to say that my son... you will surely walk again" Mom assured me.
"Mom am getting married in two days time but I can not walk" I broke down.
"No.... You will walk again Lucas... I want you to be positive" Dad replied.
"But it's obvious... Am now going to become a liability" I cried.
"You shouldn't refer to yourself as a liability brother.... You are not in anyway a liability" Anastasia snapped.
"That reminds me where did Bernadette go? I thought I saw her when we got in here?" Mom asked.
I bowed my head and tears circulated in my eyes.
"Yes Mom but she left..." I managed to speak.
"What do you mean?" They chorused.
"She said she's going to cool off" I exhaled deeply.
What is my life going to be like as a crippled??
Hot tears streamed down my face.
Bernadette's Pov:
I burst into tears as I buried my face in the pillow.
I don't think I can bear this at all.
How can I get married to a paralyzed husband?
How do I show my face in public?
Me of all people.... Bernadette Ramirez married to a crippled?
Why should it be Lucas?
"Berna are you ok?" That was Tina's voice and Tina is my best friend.
I gulped hard as I wiped my face up with my fist.
"What? You are crying? What happened bestie?" Tina asked.
"Tina.... He can't.... He can't...." I stuttered as tears didn't let me talk.
"Who? What are you talking about? I even thought you are in the hospital" She replied.
"Tina I don't know how to say this.... Lucas.... The doctor said Lucas can't walk anymore" I burst into tears as Tina's jaw dropped in shock.......
