Flashback
A sweet little girl comes bounding into the kitchen to find her mummy and daddy on the floor laughing hysterically with their legs tangled together in a clumsy mess on the floor.
"Mummy, Daddy what are you doing, " the young girl says trying to sound angry at her two silly parents.
Both heads turn and look at their daughter guiltily, they scramble to their feet almost slipping again with all the ingredients from eggs to flour sliding all over them.
The parents Juliana and Jason loved to cook and bake together and ever since they had their beautiful little girl that have been trying to find time for them to be able to do it.
The father suddenly has a mischievous glint in his eye which the mother soon picks up on.
Before Mia the little angel could escape both parents begin charging for their daughter smothering her in sticky eggs and flour, a frightening scream accompanied by giggling, broke through the house probably deafening the whole street.
After cleaning up the mess they created as a family, both parents went to clean up in the shower before it was time to go out.
Mia couldn't help but be mesmerised with her big brown eyes at her mother and father and be happier than any child right now.
Present day
I made a deep sigh as I thought about the early memory. How I wished life was as simple as that.
Ever since my dad left, I can't remember having a memory as happy as that with it being just me and my mother. She has not been the same since he left, I mean they were high school sweethearts and got married soon after finishing university. It's their fault for thinking they were going to work. I mean getting married and having a baby straight out of school just wasn't going to work.
And I'm the baby that caused those problems. I am the result of a broken marriage is what I was led to believe.
Mum doesn't speak to me, she's always out in the office until late at night and sometimes she doesn't even come home for a few days at a time. She believes that its best if she buries herself in work. Then she wouldn't have to think about him.
To think about how much she was left with.
"Mia", I heard my name being called out. I turn to find my next door neighbour a lovely middle aged woman. As well as being my neighbour she's also my auntie on my mother's side.
"Hello Sally, is everything alright? " I ask her moving my eyes to her small frame. She attempts to wave at me whilst holding a bunch of roses in her hand. I saw the clear struggle as she purses her lips.
She nods her head, "well yes darling just seemed like you were spacing off there, you want to come over for some dinner tonight I know your mum isn't coming back tonight" she tells me quietly.
Isn't she?, well she didn't tell me that.
Sally looks at me and her face drops when she realises that I didn't know and gives me a sympathetic look. "Sure" I reply "I'll be over in a minute " sally and my mum were very close sisters when they were younger. When mum got married to my dad, the family kind of drifted apart until later on in my life. Sally's husband was a kind man and helped out with my parents in getting them a house on the same street they lived on.
After a beautiful meal at Sally's and many awkward moments where they asked about my mother. Many question's I couldn't answer. I invited Ashley over for a sleepover, so we could go back to college tomorrow together. Ashley is my best friend. She has been for many years now and honestly couldn't have gotten through everything without her.
Every girl needs to have a best friend growing up and I was fortunate enough to have one that would stick with me whether I wanted her or not.
we spend the night scrolling through social media laughing at funny posts on Facebook that we can relate to meanwhile pigging out on Chinese takeout. Its normal for us to do this.
Can't blame us, the Chinese around here is so good with the place being managed by a top Chinese chef who used to run a restaurant in Beijing. Mr waan doesn't settle for prices though its probably one of the most expensive takeout's in the city.
But because his food is amazing, he gets away with it.
We were just casually sitting on the bed after taking down the rubbish left from our meal when Ashley gets a notification the same time I do.
I don't take much notice of it but Ashley quickly grabs my phone whilst holding mine.
"What the fuck ash " I exclaim grabbing my phone back from her. I look at my phone and become confused when I see the screen, she was on Facebook and was on some guys profile.
The name doesn't ring a bell but when I look at his picture I recognise it instantly because those brown eyes are very familiar to me. Not just to me though, every girl in school also recognises them.
"He sent us a friend request Mia " she practically shouts bouncing up and down on my bed like a total maniac.
"So what" I answer, tossing my phone onto the bed. I barely spend any time on Facebook anyway so there really wasn't much point in getting excited over a friend request.
