Grrrrr.... The alarm rings continuously but is put to an abrupt end as Nelly slaps it off. Groaning,she tries to fight the urge to sleep again,but succumbs to the urge as she falls back in her bed and closes her eyes. She is awoken by the loud,siren-like voice of her mother who shakes her violently. She opens her eyes,to see her mother smiling at her,she groans and forces a smile which she gives her mother. Observing deeply,she notices her mum looking beautiful and dressed up like someone about to go on a date."Mum" ,she calls out "what's happening" she asks with a quizzical look. Her mum smiles at her and replies "Ohh honey, I knew you'd forget, but today is my first day at the laundry company". This answer brings Nelly back to reality as she flings her eyes wide open,grabs her glasses from her bedside table,and rushes to check her calendar. "Oh mum it's true, I'm so sorry I forgot "she says sadly. Her mum smiles, shakes her head and pulls her into a hug. "It's okay to forget baby, I've prepared breakfast,when you're done,you can deliver the clothes to Mrs Potter, okay?" And with that she left.
Nelly quickly took a shower, dressed up,had her breakfast quickly and headed out for the Potter's estate. She knew how grumpy Mrs Potter could be at times,always wanting to have a reason to cut down the amount she had to pay. She succeeded most times,when her mum delivered the clothes,but she wouldn't succeed this time, Nelly was sure.
Walking quietly,she thought of their lives,hers and her mum's. Right from the beginning. She was 17, intelligent,smart,bright. She couldn't call herself beautiful, although some of her high school classmates often told her that. She lived just with her mum,her dad was shot in a peace keeping mission,he was a soldier. And shortly after that,her brother was taken away by an illness that plauged her town, killing almost all the children there.She had almost lost her mother too,due to her endless mourning and she was so glad her mother had later decided to move on,and let the dead be.
Coming back to reality,she looked at the large mansion ahead of her, belonging to the Potters. All she wanted now,was a good life and an opportunity to attend Dathel High,the school her dream crush, Jimmy Owens attended,she thought sighing.
Pressing the doorbell, she silently prayed that Mabel would be the one to open the door. Mabel was the only daughter of Mrs Potter who was nice to her. She met her at a beach some time last year and they had exchanged home address and numbers,she had maintained and cherished their friendship till this day,she thought.
She was greeted by a very furious Mrs Potter looking like a smoking kettle."U're late again,drop the clothes and leave"she said. Nelly quickly looked up, wondering if her ears were playing tricks on her, and,looking at Mrs Potter,she asked"What about my money, ma'am? Looking at her murderously, Potter went in, and returned with some dollar notes which she threw mercilessly on her face. Sighing,Nelly picked up the money,counted it and shook her head satisfied that it was complete. Stepping out,she saw Mabel who smiled at her. She went over to where Mabel was,gave her a quick hug,smiled at her and walked out of the compound.
She was glad,that at least,the day was going smoothly for the Kimbers,she and her widowed mum.
