I stared at her, bewildered, "I'm being transferred?"

She nodded, "Yes."

"To where?"

"The top floor....where our CEO is."

I furrowed my eyebrows, why in the world would I become the CEO's secretary? I have never met the guy, hell, I don't even know his full name, everyone just calls him either 'boss' or 'CEO'. It puzzled me, but I knew better than to argue, I'm helpless in this matter.

"Why does he want me?" I questioned.

She released a breath, "His current secretary is extremely slow with her work. She doesn't understand how to arrange meetings, special events, and so on. You're one of our best, in fact, you are the best secretary in this whole company. It'll suit you to be a secretary on the highest branch."

"But I—

"Scar, we're practically best friends, you can still vent to me. But I have no power against him, he's my boss as well."

I groaned, "When do I start?"

"This afternoon."

"Are you kidding me?" I exclaimed.

She frowned, "I wish I was. He wants Miss. Haze out of there as soon as possible. He's fairly....anxious to have you work for him as soon as possible."

"I see."

I silently grumbled to myself as I strode to my office, planning on collecting my things. In my mind, I was currently stabbing this CEO. I know, I know, I don't even know the guy and here I am, stabbing him. But in my defense, he's rushing me into a job I didn't sign up for. Literally.

My cousin works within this company and told me that my now, ex—boss, was seeking a personal secretary. Apparently, she was flooded with work and didn't have the ability to schedule meetings, special appointments, etc. I didn't mind it though, the two of us had become friends rather quickly. Sadly, I have only worked for her for two years. Now, I'm being whisked away to the CEO's floor.

Once everything was packed, I silently made my way to the elevator, still grumbling profanities. I blew out a breath as I leaned against the wall, wishing I wasn't as good at my job. At the sound of the elevator opening, I spun around, coming face to face with the new secretary. She flashed me an incredibly dirty look before storming out of the elevator like a toddler.

Rude.

I rolled my eyes, finding it a waste of my time to even say a single word to her. I popped my gum as I leaned against the back wall and watched the elevator doors close.

It felt like a year had passed before they opened, revealing my new 'home' in the building. I noticed a man sitting behind a counter right as you step off. He was scribbling god knows what onto a paper as I shyly made my way over to him. I cleared my throat, gaining his attention.

He raised an eyebrow, his eyes laced with amusement. "Yes?" He mused.

I nervously swallowed, "I'm the new secretary, Scarlett Summers."

"Ah! My, Peps didn't tell me you were model status!"

"Peps?"

He chuckled, "Jane is quite peppy at meetings, I gave her the nickname a week after she became one of the bosses."

I smiled, "It definitely suits her."

"Well, come this way, Mr. Stone is looking forward to meeting you."

I faltered in my step, that name sounds oddly familiar. Not in a good way either. There are many good memories twisted within the sound of Stone, but there are a few negative ones. Regrettably, the negative memories push the good ones out. Flooding my mind with a sense of reluctance. Even so, I obediently followed the young man, knowing I couldn't back out. I can't get myself fired over petty drama, I needed this job if I wanted to stay far from my father's grasp.

"Mr.Stone, Miss. Summers has arrived," the man announced.

"Summers?" His deep voice sounded.

I stiffened, he remembered me too.

"Uh, yes, I believe I just said that."

"Come in."

The man shoved the door open, sporting a wide grin as he guided me into the large office. I silently stood beside him, my heart hammering against my chest as I stared at the back of a chair.

"You can leave now, Anthony," he voiced.

Anthony rolled his eyes, "For once, can't you be a tad bit...kinder?"

"No, you're incredibly irritating."

I bit my lip, quieting my laugh. Oh, how I have missed his sass and bluntness. It helped me recall some fond memories of us sharing a few laughs.

Anthony chuckled before smiling at me, "Have fun, Miss. Summers."

I returned the smile, "Anthony, please, you can call me Scarlett. My last name is far too formal."

"Well, you seem and sound like a naturally...formal person," he chuckled.

I shrugged, "I guess so."

Once he left, I was suddenly aware of my current situation. I was now alone with him, the man who managed to break my heart.

"How have you been?" He asked, still not facing me.

I gulped, "Do you want the truth?"

He let out a dark chuckle, "Truth? I never knew honestly was in your vocabulary."

Ouch.

"Gabriel, please—

"It's Mr. Stone, Miss. Summers."

I laughed softly, "I used to be Mrs. Stone."

"Don't remind me of those worthless years. I wasted my time being your husband."

That silenced me abruptly, it had also managed to make my eyes tear up. I quickly blinked the tears away, refusing to cry for this awful man. If I can even call him that.

"It's not my fault you married someone you didn't love," I snapped.

That had him standing up and facing me, his eyes dark with anger. I sucked in a breath as he stormed over to me and gently grabbed my jaw.

"You think I didn't love you?" He sneered. "Then, please explain why you left me with a broken heart."

I clenched my jaw, "You never allowed me to explain."

"Then explain, Princess, I'm dying to know your reason for leaving me."

"I didn't leave you, you left me."

"So? You cheated."

I narrowed my eyes, I wanted to tell him the truth, but something was stopping me. The fear of him going after the cause of our divorce.

You heard me right.

I'm the CEO's ex—wife.
