Chapter one- My Dream School

I woke up to my alarm clock ringing right from the table next to my bed. Filled with an excitement unlike before, I threw my duvet hurriedly jumping out of the bed.

It's kinda funny right?...you set an alarm before you go to bed and you will never have thought whether you will be still warm or turn cold when the dawn rises. My blood hadn"t turned cold which meant my hopes and dreams were becoming a reality. I was never excited about going to school but it was different as my dream of going to high school was knocking on the door, sending a rhythmic wave through my heart.

When I was in middle school, whenever I saw high school boys and girls walking together talking and laughing, I wished to be like them and my heart swooped around them like a hopeful butterfly.

"Now I am a high school girl," I told myself with a smile, stretching my arms while looking at the beautiful scene covered with thin snow. My window is so huge that about five people can easily enter at one time and it is the favourite part of my room because I love watching through the window, feeling the fresh air.

But my eyes were caught by my nerd neighbour, ruining my mood. Noah Adams stood on the balcony of his apartment with a cup in his hand and lately, I had seen him spending most of his time on his balcony, which I can directly see from my window.

We were classmates from pre-primary till middle school and the worst part was being his desk partner for two long years in middle school. He was a weirdo who always picked on me and I knew the reason. It's because I had been taking his academic position as a first topper from the eighth grade and he has been holding second every year and how he treated me shows his hatred and resentment towards me.

Though we had been neighbors for all those years, we never shared a normal conversation and always argued for a little thing.

As soon as he saw me, he lowered his head like he was ashamed of being caught for looking at a girl like a pervert.

'Pervert,' I mumbled, rolling my eyes and pulling the curtain closed.

It was mid-February and still, there was a light shower of snow flickering in the air, indicating that winter had not ended. I could feel the cold morning breeze hissing through the slightly opened window under the thick dark purple curtain.

Purple isn't my favourite colour but this curtain is my favourite because Ella gifted it to me when I cried to see my favourite black curtain eaten by the rat.

In this cold winter, people were wearing thick woollen clothes to protect themselves from the cold air but I wanted to feel the coldness of the wind in the beautiful morning. People in Bumthang had almost forgotten the pleasure of playing with snow and its beauty since it had been more than a decade there hadn't been snowfall and it had come to welcome me in my dream world.

My phone rang my favourite song and I knew it was my best friend, Isabella, whom I lovingly called Ella. We had been best friends since pre-primary school and we were going to the same high school.

"Good morning, my baby girl," I responded, grabbing my phone from the table.

"Hey! Good morning. Is everything done? Are you ready to go?" She asked like someone is chasing her.

I could tell from her intonation that she was more excited than me and knew that she was almost ready to walk to our new high school.

"I am about to....Umm, you come to my place, it would be the best idea." I told her, with a smile.

"OK, I will be there in 15 minutes," she said and disconnected the call.

My house was ten minutes walk from hers and perhaps, it was just a two minutes ride. She was the girl I loved the most and someone I never wanted to lose because she was kind, generous, helpful, and very good to everyone. All and all, she loved me and she was the only one who was close to me and trustworthy.

She was very beautiful, attractive and cool as well. Any boy could fall at her feet and she could go out with anyone if she wanted to, but it wasn't something she preferred. Every year a queue of boys were after her but she always acted as if they were invisible. Let him be so cute and striking and funny and absurd, she never gave attention to them. In grade eight a boy called James always used to follow her to her home after school the day her father threatened and warned him, he never followed her nor looked towards her.

That was so funny.

I took a shower as fast as I could and wore my new school uniform, a red skirt that reached above my knee with a pair of thick leggings and a white shirt with a dark blue blazer. I stood in front of my dressing mirror and looked at myself- my thick black hair tied neatly into a ponytail, my eyelashes thick and black, my fair cheeks with little blush and my lips pink gave me a fine look.

"Something is missing, Amelia."

I turned my head back to see Isabella, standing in the doorway with a huge smile on her face.

"Smile is missing, my darling," She added with a wink, making me smile.

She looked so pretty and mesmerizing in her new uniform that my heart fluttered with love and happiness. Her dark brown shoulder-length hair flung on her shoulder, and the little make-up on her face glowed her like a bright sun.

"You are looking so pretty," I uttered.

"Let"s see who would be that unlucky boy to fall under your mercy," I added grinning.

"Forget about it, my girl. You are looking gorgeous," she pinched my cheeks.

"Let's hurry. I don"t think you want to be late on your first day in the new school. Do you?" she asked me with a playful smile.

We always used to get late in our previous school and detention was our favourite under compulsion. But then I wanted to shun being late and be punctual in any work because I am going to the school I always dreamed of going to.

Snow was flickering and it was foggy with white snow covering everything making the weather some sort of romantic for the lovers to make promises.
