James Federington woke up.
News of this filled Zane Federington with an unexpected joy as she gently rubbed her eight-month-old belly. James was her husband.
Two years ago, James had become a vegetable due to an accident. To cheer him up, Dr Federington, James's father chose Zane as the daughter-in-law of the Federington family.
The child was conceived through in vitro fertilization. From their marriage to her pregnancy, James was totally ignorant about all of these.
She wondered, how would James react when he saw her?
With a hint of anticipation in her eyes, Zane headed to the hospital.
Approaching the partially open door of the hospital room, she saw another woman inside, feeding James a drink. The two of them were very close to each other.
"James, are you really going to marry me? What about your wife?" The question came out from the woman.
In a deep, emotionless voice, James replied, "I'll divorce her."
"But she's carrying your child. If you divorce her now, what about the child?" Yvette Song bit down on her lips, her voice was soft and seductive.
The look in James's eyes was filled with disgust, "That child, I absolutely do not want it. Anything that was conceived when I was unconscious should not have come into this world."
Zane's vision became blurry.
She felt as if her heart had been punctured by a gaping hole, as the wind whistled through it.
He said he wanted to divorce her and didn't want the child. So, where did she stand in all this?
James was her college senior whom she'd had a secret crush on for four years.
Knowing that James had become comatose, she did not hesitate to marry him regardless of everything.
Two years into their marriage, even though James lacked any conscious awareness, she took great care of him. Moreover, she visited the hospital daily for injections to bear his child, and eventually, she became pregnant.
When James finally showed signs of recovery, she discovered he was with another woman.
A door inadvertently pushed open by Zane made a noise.
Both their gazes fell towards the door to meet Zane's panicked face. She quickly turned to leave, each step heavier than the last.
A smug smile appeared on Yvette's face. She walked out the door and placed a call, "She's here, act now."
…
Zane walked the streets like a living dead. Just then, she felt a sudden wave of dizziness before someone attacked her from behind.
When she woke up again, she found herself inside a burlap sack, too weak to cry for help.
In her hazy consciousness, she could hear people talking outside.
"James, should we really do this?"
James's deep voice mixed with an icy tone, "Throw her into the sea, and she will be gone forever."
Zane's eyes widened, bloodshot.
She recognized the two voices - one was the female voice she had just heard in the hospital; the other was James.
She was all too familiar with this man's voice.
She had been secretly in love with him for a long time.
But she never really knew this man. Just because she held the position of Mrs Federington, he intended to get rid of her.
This man was too ruthless.
"She's pregnant now, divorcing could be a bit complicated. But, if she dies, all problems can be solved," James said coldly. Without any hesitation, he harshly kicked her stomach through his pocket, not caring about her pregnancy at all.
Zane felt her body float in mid-air, she was brutally lifted off the ground.
"Go die."
Her body plunged into the cold and raging sea. The salty water quickly seeped in from all sides. At that breathless moment, she remembered the time when James was delivering a speech on stage, many years ago.
His white shirt flapping in the wind, there was still a hint of boyish charm between his brows.
"James, I will not let you off even if I become a ghost!"
By the seashore, a man and a woman were standing. The man looked very young, his voice was just like James’s. “Miss Song, let’s go back."
"Mm." Yvette's lips curled up into a mocking smile.
This was a voice actor she had specially hired, she wanted to ensure that Zane wouldn’t rest in peace!
Two hours later, at the hospital.
The housekeeper rushed over in a hurry: "Sir, there's trouble with the Miss Zane."
Dr. Federington's expression was stern: "What happened?"
"She jumped into the sea, there's no news as of now."
"What!"
Dr. Federington nearly collapsed, but Zane was still carrying a child in her womb!
The housekeeper said, "We have already sent people to do the search, but the hope is slim."
"Find, even if she's dead, I need to see the body." Dr. Federington clutched at his heart.
A look of surprise flashed across James's face.
The Federington family's diving team spent a month working day and night, but they couldn't find Zane's body, she was presumed dead.
When James heard the news, his face was expressionless.
His body had recovered a lot, while Yvette was peeling an apple for him.
"James, you can't blame yourself for this. She married you for your family's fortune when you encountered misfortune. After hearing you wanted to divorce, she must have meant to threaten you with suicide. She never anticipated the accident; it's fate."
James rubbed his forehead, his eyes cold and piercing: "Let's not bring this up anymore!"
Yvette shivered and didn't dare to speak any further.
She had known James for such a long time, yet this was the first time he had spoken to her with such a violent tone.
"But it doesn't matter; after all, Zane is already dead; the future young mistress of the Federington family is me eventually!"
Three months later.
In a small clinic in the east of the city, Zane, looking at the three cute babies beside her, shed tears. On the brink of life and death, she was rescued by her best friend, Nancy Tamworth. However, fearing that she might be discovered by James, she decided to hide in this clinic.
"Zaney, if James really wants to harm you, we must leave York City immediately. The Federington family has great power in York City, we are not their match." Nancy suggested.
Hatred flashed in Zane's eyes: "But what about Barry?"
During childbirth, she had complications. Barry, the first to be born, was not just weak but also suffering from congenital leukaemia. He wouldn't live very long.
She couldn't bring the child with her, nor could she raise him. But she just couldn't stand to leave him.
Nancy hesitated for a moment: "I’ll take the child to the Federington family. After all, he is their bloodline. They wouldn’t be so heartless as to harm their own son."
Zane violently shook her head, despair written all over her face.
