"Ring! Ring!!" The alarm went off. Stephanie forcefully dragged herself from the bed. Today was one of those days when she felt like drowning in her bed and not do anything, but there was nothing she could do.
She got herself prepared for her first job with was cleaning hotel rooms before heading to the bookstore to arrange the books on the shelves, then she still had to go to the bar to work as a waitress.
As she got dressed she heard a knock on her one room apartment door. "Steph, open the door!"
To her surprise it was the woman who she had called 'mom' for years, but threw her out of the house.
Over the years this woman has taken care of her since the day her father brought her to the house as his second wife. "Mom, what are you doing here. I thought we agreed for you not to come here especially with Matt and Lilly around." Since their father died her step mother Jenny tried her best possible for her and her younger ones only that the woman had a serious case of gambling which results to why Stephanie had to take up three jobs to survive for her younger ones and herself after the old woman had gambled all their possessions and losing them.
"Are you not happy to see and I know Lilly and Matt aren't around," she feigned anger.
"Mom, you know it not true, am always gonna be happy to see you but you know Lilly and Matt would not like to see you and they warned me never to see you again," after their mother tried to sell Stephanie to a man she gambled with and Stephanie disagreed with her. She sent her out of the house and her siblings found out the where strongly against their mother's decision so they followed Stephanie out of the house when she refused to accept their pleadings to let Stephanie stay in the house and promised themselves never to help their mother if she ever gets into any trouble with her gambling addiction although Stephanie was against them, they even threaten her never to see their mother claiming Stephanie was kind hearted but nevertheless Stephanie still visited her step mother form time to time and also help her settle her gambling bills.
"I know but I can't help it when am in trouble."
Stephanie sensed something was off, "don't tell me you are gambling again?" She could tell her stepmother was in some kind of debt.
"How much are you owing?" Stephanie asked
"Hmm, 2 million." Jenny looked away pretty ashamed of herself.
"2 MILLION, WHERE THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT NE TO GET SUCH MONEY!" Stephanie shouted at her stepmother.
Where would she get 2 million to cover up her stepmother's debt, even her three freaking jobs can't take care for half a million debt not to talk of two million
