I woke up to a buzzing sound coming from underneath my room. My room was in the attic so I could hear everything that ever went on in my home. I got up and tried to break the padlock that was locking me in on the outside but it wouldn't budge. So I stomped extra hard on the floor board and then it all went quiet until I heard stomping coming up the staircase. I quickly ran to my closet and locked it. But of course it wasn't strong enough. I looked up to see my mother standing over me. I said "Yes mother?". She quickly grabbed me by my hair and dragged me out and threw me against the wall. I landed on my bruised hip with a loud "Crack". And all I could do was sob my heart out. My mother then said "Annabeth you know my number one rule, don't let me hear a sound after ten o'clock" I said "I'm sorry mother". I waited until she left then I called the police and an ambulance. After about twenty five minutes I assume they arrived because I heard something smash in the kitchen followed by my mother screaming at an unknown man and woman. I believed this was my only chance so I mustered up all of my strength and I yelled "Help" as loud as my voice could go. They must've heard me because the next thing I hear is the man saying "Hands in the air now" followed by footsteps coming up the stairs. In walked a paramedic with a big bag hanging over her shoulder. I told her what happened and I was transported to the nearest hospital. There they looked at all of my past and recent injuries and they didn't have the option to call CPS because I was nineteen. So I had no idea where to go after this. But one thing was for sure, I wasn't going back to that house. If I did, I know for sure that would be my very last day on earth. And I wasn't done living. So I hatched up a plan to get safely out of the country and start a new life but I was gonna have to do something that made me sick to my stomach. So a few days later I got out of the hospital and my mother was waiting for me in the parking lot. Luckily I had seen her before she seen me so I quickly ran back into the hospital as fast as I could. A nurse was looking at me and I ran to her begging her to hide me. She looked at the door and pulled her chair out and waved me over to go around the counter. I slid under the counter just as I heard my mother ask the receptionist "Do you know what room my daughter is staying in, her name is Annabeth Walden". The receptionist looked at me and I pleaded with my eyes and the nurse typed something in her computer and told my mother that I was released yesterday. My mother started yelling at the nurse " Why wasn't I informed?", the nurse explained that because of the nature of my injuries and also that she wasn't my emergency contact they couldn't disclose any information. I was so relieved I almost cried. But I had to keep silent. Afterwards my mother left and I watched carefully hidden as she walked outside and started talking to someone on the phone I got a little closer, letting the cars in the parking lot hide me. As I got closer I heard my mother saying that I was gone. She told them I had been discharged yesterday and she hadn't seen me. She then said "You've got to find her before she finds out" and with that she hung up and left in her car. My mind was racing after that. What had she been talking about? I was bound to find out.
