Chapter 1 - The Woman Involved in a Car Accident

As Qin Feng stepped out from the Shannan County Government building holding a document, he became extremely puzzled.

During the recruitment, he was clearly informed that he was assigned to work in the county government office, yet the document he received showed that he was allocated to the Bishan Township Civil Affairs Office.

Among the dozen or so civil servants in his batch, he was the only one assigned to a township, despite coming in first place.

What Qin Feng couldn’t comprehend is, out of the numerous townships in Shannan County, why was he specifically assigned to Bishan Township?

Shannan County is a poverty-stricken one, yet Bishan Township is the most remote and impoverished of the lot, epitomizing extreme poverty!

Qin Feng waited at the bus station for more than three hours before finally catching the bus from Shannan County to Bishan Township, mainly due to the limited service of only two buses per day.

The decrepit state of the bus could be excused, but to add insult to injury, the interior was filled with various poultry besides humans - chickens, ducks, etc., were scattered all over the place, and the air was thick with the nauseating smell of chicken feces.

Qin Feng originally thought that the trip from county to township couldn't be that long; however, to his surprise, the journey took more than an hour. It felt like they were heading towards the end of the road.

The further they ventured into the mountains, the worse the roads became. The road section nearing Bishan Township was so terrible that Qin Feng felt like his skeleton was about to fall apart.

Qin Feng felt like he must have been out of his mind, forgoing the high-end business offices in Shanghai, and instead choosing the godforsaken place to work as some damn civil servant.

The smell in the bus and the cacophonous noise dazed Qin Feng, causing him to feel groggy and a little out of sorts.

In the midst of this, a red sedan was spotted driving in the opposite lane.

The sedan was moving normally when suddenly a little girl appeared out of nowhere in front of the car, fearlessly crossing the road.

The red sedan immediately braked hard, with the driver desperately trying to steer away from the little girl.

The little girl managed to dodge successfully, but the car lost its direction, veered off the road, flew down a four to five meter high slope, and came to a stop after crashing into a tree, with its four wheels suspended in the air on the tree.

All this happened in the blink of an eye, everyone in the car was shocked.

"Stop the car!" Qin Feng stood up and shouted.

The driver was taken aback and brought the vehicle to a halt, asking, "What are you trying to do?"

Qin Feng didn't have time for many explanations, he grabbed his stuff, got off the bus and ran towards the crash site while dialing 120 on his phone.

"Are you an idiot? It's leaking oil, it might explode!" the bus driver yelled at Qin Feng's actions, obviously he had watched too many American films.

Qin Feng didn't have time to consider all that, he rushed over to the small car, straining to pull open the door, but it wouldn't budge, the door was jammed.

Qin Feng picked up a stone from the ground and started smashing the car window, hitting it with all his might.

After breaking the window, Qin Feng saw a woman sitting in the car, with dishevelled hair, out cold.

If Qin Feng looked closer, he would be astounded by the woman's beauty. She was absolutely stunning! But at this moment, he obviously didn't have the time to focus on that.

He started to pull the woman, but she was stuck in her seatbelt and wouldn't budge, Qin Feng had to crawl through the window himself, unfasten the seatbelt, and with all the strength he could muster, pulled the woman out of the car.

Looking at the continuously leaking car, Qin Feng didn't take time to rest. With Herculean effort, he managed to carry the woman up from the slope and laid her down on the ground. At this point, he was completely exhausted and collapsed to the ground, unable to move.

Just as Qin Feng was sitting on the ground, panting heavily, a sudden loud "boom" sounded from the side. He hurriedly turned his head back to see the car at the bottom of the slope enveloped in a raging fire.

Qin Feng couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine, if he had been a tad slower earlier, he would be in the afterlife meeting Marx by now.

Medical personnel lifted the woman onto a stretcher and loaded her into the ambulance.

Qin Feng slowly rose to his feet, only then noticing several bloody cuts from glass shards on his arm. His blood continued to flow unstoppably, and his clothes were also scratched into a rag.

As Qin Feng dragged his luggage, getting ready to board the vehicle, he looked up only to find his usual medium-sized bus was nowhere in sight.

"Damn it! Is this even human?" Qin Feng couldn't help but blurt out harshly.

In a moment of despair, Qin Feng began to drag his suitcase along the roadside. With his dire appearance, he looked no different from a beggar.

What Qin Feng didn’t know was that not long after the woman was taken to the ambulance, the leaders of the Dongyang Municipal Committee and the municipal government were breaking out in cold sweats.

Shortly after the woman was taken to the County People's Hospital, over a dozen vehicles suddenly drove into the hospital vicinity. Leading the way were a couple of police cars, blaring their sirens loudly.

The gatekeeper, who had never seen such grandeur, hastily lifted the barricade in fear.

Over a dozen vehicles recklessly entered the hospital, and the hospital leadership, having been previously notified, waited respectfully at the entrance.
