Caroline's POV.
"Damn it! Send me someone to find it right now!"
Alpha slammed his fist heavily on the table, how absurd that he couldn't find the map at this crucial moment in the fight for the territory.
On the other hand, Alpha's mate Pearl, my adopted mother, arrived in a hurry, holding, in her hand, the very same map.
"Williams, I ......"
Before she could finish her words, she quickly blocked the Alpha, who was standing in the middle, and then, the crowd then saw that the one closest to the Alpha, holding a silver knife, had stabbed Luna Pearl's chest.
The map then floated down to the ground ......
I once again woke up from the nightmare, I have had this dream countless times in the past month since Luna Pearl sacrificed a month ago, and each time, I wanted to stop her, but ......
I wasn't present when she sacrificed, but everyone in the pack knew that this was how my beautiful, kind foster mother, was sacrificed. I calmed down, washed up and then accompanied Aisha to go shopping.
Aisha was the only daughter of Alpha Williams and Luna Pearl, my sister of sorts, and although she didn't really like me, she had to be "friends" with me because we were the only two girls in the family.
"Red or black? Red looks sexy and glamorous, black is elegant and sensual, I really can't make a choice, Caroline?"
Aisha's words interrupted my thoughts as I watched Aisha fidget with two dresses and looked at her in the mirror with a headache as she looked stunning in either one, even though there weren't many occasions when she needed to wear a dress, but she still loved to buy dresses that didn't have much use. I took a look at her in the mirror and I said casually, "Red one." Red looked good on her.
She casually ruffled the blonde curls just right and had the clerk pack up all the dresses.
I was used to her asking for advice, but I was surprised that she was ready to go back so early, so I couldn't help but ask, "No more matching shoes?"
She shook her head "If I don't go back, father will be rushing me."
The thought of that terrible Alpha Williams terrified me. I was an orphan, picked up by Pearl, and I didn't know who my parents were, only knew that I was a war orphan. The woman who picked me up, named Pearl, was gentle and different from the other women in the pack, but she happened to be the mate of that violent man, which I felt sorry for countless times, but only in my inner thoughts.
"The Alpha is at home at night?" I asked out carefully, not wanting Aisha to pick up on my concerns.
"The border patrol is over and father is back to celebrate my quinceanera. What's the matter Caroline, you don't seem to like having father in the house?" Aisha turned her head and stared at me intently, trying to make me look bad so she could laugh at me. She always liked to see me make a fool of myself, she always had since I was a kid, and I didn't know what kind of cheap fun she could get out of it, so I stopped talking so she wouldn't get her way.
"Hmph, no fun." Aisha snorted coldly and picked up her pace to go.
I got on my motorcycle and tucked my entire messy silver hair into my helmet. I hated this silver hair, it was different from everyone else in the pack, as if I was an alien. I loved the feeling of riding a motorcycle, the ability to not see that nasty hair and the thrill of freedom at breakneck speed.
I arrived a little later than Aisha, and a group of soldiers stood guard at the door, the Alpha's personal guard. The dinner table in the living room was set strictly according to Alpha standards, and I missed the days when Pearl was still around, when she always stood by and watched everyone go about their business, then waited at the door for Alpha Williams to return. But she died last month in the war between the foreigners for the territory.
Aisha would become the new Alpha as soon as she came of age, a fact that everyone in the pack agreed to.
"What are you thinking about? Why don't you go change your clothes?"
I found Aisha sitting at the table shouting at me, the tone she always used at home to show off her status. I was just a found orphan; what kind of face could she give me? I walked up to my room on the second floor, took off my biker clothes, a symbol of freedom, and changed into a sweatshirt and pants, lying on my bed and looking at my phone.
I pushed the door open and saw a strange man in the hallway, and was amazed at why there was a stranger present at the family dinner, and wearing a patrol armor. I walked straight towards the stairs, "Who are you?"
He ignored me, as if he hadn't heard me ask, and I was about to reach over and pull him through when he suddenly turned around.
"Caroline, Father is arriving, hurry downstairs." Aisha's voice came from the stairs, and the man's glance back made me freeze in place.
"Oh, my moon goddess, brother Rob?! What are you doing here?" Aisha squealed, unable to contain her surprise, and she hugged the man in front of me. Then letting go, she looked at him and continued, "Wow, you haven't changed a bit, just like before."
I was even more shocked, how could a man I had never seen before be Aisha's brother?
Without waiting to think about it, there was a mess of footsteps downstairs and Alpha Williams was already coming to the door, I quickly ran downstairs and stood up straight by the door in case I ignited his anger again and he then punished me to border patrol.
The air was so stagnant that my breath caught, and Alpha's distinctive and domineering aura lingered throughout the house, as he walked step by step, his shiny leather shoes bending and creasing with his steps, his straight ironed pants and ironed suit revealing his attention to detail. The blue eyes reveal fatigue, must have dealt with a lot of big and small troubles at the border.
Noticing that I was staring at him, he turned his gaze to me, and I hurriedly bowed my head hand clutching the corner of my coat with my hand, I never dared to look at the high and mighty Alpha like this before, and wondered what was wrong with me today.
Luckily, he didn't care about my rude behavior.
"Where's Aisha?"
Alpha Williams' voice came from next to my head as he inquired.
No one answered him, and the atmosphere was suddenly oppressive.
"Hmm?" The long drawn out tone of my voice made me move my eyes from the iron piece at the top of his leather shoes to his face, and finding him looking at me coldly, it dawned on me that Alpha Williams was asking me, and my scalp tingled, my heart pounding hard in my chest, and it was suddenly in my throat. If he was angry about this, I was going to be sent on border patrol again.
"Father!" At that moment, Aisha's voice rescued me in my predicament. "Why didn't you tell me when Rob's brother came back?"
I turned around and saw Aisha, wearing a colorful sarong, running down the stairs quickly, just like the princess in Hans Christian Andersen's book. Her appearance broke the oppressive atmosphere, I carefully turned around and carefully observed the expression of Alpha Williams, found that he looked much more relaxed, I was relieved, fortunately, do not have to go to the border.
"Have Rob change his clothes and come down, the gathering will start on time, there are some things you need to be informed of." Alpha Williams' voice was cold. Since Pearl's death, he seemed even more indifferent than before, everyone was nothing more than a member of his pack in his eyes. It was annoying.
I peeked at Aisha and saw that Aisha's expression immediately changed from happy just now to somewhat uneasy, she was even a little frustrated, and her voice dropped from its high pitch, as if she was avoiding something, "I know father, I'll go up and get him."
I had infinite curiosity about Rob in my heart, but due to the occasion, I could only suppress the curiosity in my heart for the time being.
The dinner started.
I sat at the far end of the left side and waited for the others to be seated. Staring at Pearl's seat, I remembered that I used to sit next to her at family dinners, and now, if not for Aisha's insistence, I might not even be able to attend the family dinners. I wondered if Aisha's purpose for having me at the family dinner was just to watch me look embarrassed.
"What are you thinking about Caroline, why are you always dazed these days?" Aisha's voice came over, "This is my brother Rob, you shouldn't have met him, he's been living on the border since before you came to our house." Aisha introduced me, "This is Caroline, my mother picked her up from the war."
Aisha's last sentence annoyed me and I couldn't help but glance at her, but before I could retrieve the glance, I saw the view and was frozen again.
Rob had changed out of his military uniform and was wearing a white shirt with an open collar and hidden muscles that I couldn't take my eyes off of. Short, sharp blonde hair and some untreated stubble on his face, but it didn't affect his handsome face much. I really wanted to know what kind of woman can match such a perfect him? He looked at me with eyes as gentle as a swamp, "With silver hair, you're special."
My face flushed and I reached up and scratched my hair, I should have cleaned up when I changed, I must look awful now. The words still lingered in my ears, I didn't realize that the thing I hated most was special to him.
"Ahem."
Alpha Williams came striding over and sat down at the main seat, and I immediately snapped back to my senses, trying to air myself out for fear of drawing his attention.
Alpha Williams ate slowly and quietly, with only the sound of knives and forks clinking.
"Aisha, your quinceanera is on the 16th, you better pray you transform before then. Rob, now you come back and be a good son."
The calm water rippled at those words, but the one who made the ripples just wiped his mouth and left.
The table was smashed into a small crater with a thud, which startled me.
"Hmph, good son? You're in a position to order me around?"
Rob dropped these words in the direction Alpha Williams left, and then also got up and left.
