Introduction
“I, Alpha Logan Vance, reject you, Valerie Sterling, as my mate and Luna.” On her twenty-first birthday, Valerie stood before the entire Silver Crest Pack expecting a sacred bond. Instead, she received public humiliation. Branded “too soft, too curvy, and completely unfit” to stand beside a warlord Alpha, Logan severs their mate's bond to claim her slender, manipulative half-sister, Chloe. To protect their standing, Valerie’s own family strips her name, forces her into an exile contract, and throws her out into the freezing night. They thought her soft curves were a weakness. They didn't know it was the ancient physical vessel required to channel the **Sun-Fire Blessing**—a primordial magic so vast that fragile bodies burn to ash trying to hold it. Valerie wasn't just an insecure healer; she was the living anchor holding the pack's warding shield together. The moment Logan broke their bond, he signed his pack's death warrant. Five years later, a rot-plague is destroying the Silver Crest territory, and enemy packs are closing in for the kill. Desperate and bleeding, Alpha Logan leads a team to the mythic Northern Dominion to beg the legendary High Sovereign for salvation. When the massive golden doors open, Logan doesn't find an ancient deity. He finds Valerie—radiant, breathtakingly powerful, and wearing a crown forged from the very fire they tried to extinguish. As her former family starves in the cold and Logan falls to his knees in the dirt, begging for a single glance, Valerie smiles from her throne. Because an Alpha can beg all he wants... but a goddess owes no mercy to the fools who broke her.

The grand hall of the Silver Crest Pack smelled of burning cedar and stale wine. High archways carved from black granite caught the pale blue moonlight streaming through the grand rose window. Hundreds of pack nobles lined the polished floor, their whispers rustling through the chamber like dry leaves in an autumn gale.

Valerie adjusted the hem of her silver velvet dress. The silk squeezed tightly around her ribcage, tailored to fit a frame that had always drawn hushed comments across the territory. She was not lean like the female warriors who trained on the northern grounds, nor delicate like the noble ladies who spent their mornings in silk parlors. Her waist was narrow, but her hips were broad, her chest full, her limbs soft and deeply curved.

For three years, she had endured the side-eyes and veiled snickers. *She is too soft to run with the pack. Too heavy to tread lightly. How could an Alpha take such a heavy creature to his bed?*

Yet tonight, none of those whispers were supposed to matter. Tonight was her twenty-first birthday. Tonight, the sacred moon alignment would cement her position beside the man she had loved since childhood—Alpha Logan Vance.

Valerie lifted her chin, meeting Logan’s gaze at the top of the raised dais. He stood tall in his dark ceremonial armor, his silver-grey eyes cold, sharp, and strangely distant.

"Valerie Sterling," Logan’s voice echoed off the high rafters, deep and heavy with Alpha command. The room instantly fell into dead silence. "Step forward."

She took three deliberate steps onto the cold stone, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.

"Three years ago, my father betrothed us," Logan said, his voice flat, stripped of the warmth he used to reserve for her in private. "He believed a quiet healer from the Sterling bloodline would bring stability to our borders. But times have changed. The southern packs are rallying. War is at our threshold."

Valerie felt a cold knot tighten in her stomach. "Logan?" she whispered, the name slipping out before she could stop it.

Logan did not flinch. He looked down at her, his eyes scanning her figure with a flick of open distaste. His gaze lingering on the soft swell of her hips, the full curve of her waist, as if calculating the weight of a physical flaw.

"An Alpha of the Silver Crest Pack needs a Luna who commands fear and elegance," Logan announced, his voice carrying clearly to every corner of the grand hall. "A queen must look the part. She must be light enough to ride, swift enough to hunt, and sharp enough to strike terror into our enemies. You, Valerie, are none of those things."

A sharp collective gasp rippled through the hall, followed by a wave of eager, cruel whispers.

Valerie felt the blood drain from her face. Her knuckles turned white as she clenched her velvet skirts. "You speak of my body as if it were a defect, Logan. I have healed your warriors for five years. I have patched your scouts when they crawled back from the borders near death."

"Healing wounds is the work of servants, not a Luna!" a harsh voice cut in from the gallery.

Valerie turned her head slowly. Standing beside the High Council elders was her father, Richard Sterling. His dark eyes were cold, completely devoid of a father's warmth. He stepped down the marble stairs, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Logan.

"Do not embarrass this family further, Valerie," Richard said coldly, his voice laced with disgust. "You have always been an eyesore to the Sterling name. Soft. Clumsy. Heavy. We tolerated your presence only because we hoped the Moon Goddess would bless you with a warrior's grace upon your birth hour. But look at you. You remain what you have always been—a burden."

From behind her father, a slender figure stepped into the moonlight.

Chloe.

Her half-sister wore a gown of gossamer white, cut so fine it floated around her delicate, willow-thin frame. Her golden hair fell in flawless waves down her back, and her pale blue eyes glistened with faux tears. Yet, as Chloe caught Valerie’s eyes, the corners of her soft pink lips twitched upward in a triumphant, razor-sharp smirk.

"Logan," Chloe murmured softly, resting a delicate, manicured hand against Logan’s armored chest. "Please, don't be too harsh. Sister tried her best, even if... even if her form was never meant for a throne."

Logan placed his hand over Chloe's, his expression softening into something Valerie had not seen in months. Gentle. Protective. Devoted.

The contrast struck Valerie like a physical blow. A dull, suffocating ache bloomed in her chest, shattering the last fragile remnants of her pride.

Logan turned his attention back to Valerie, his posture rigid, his voice ringing out like a death sentence.

"I, Alpha Logan Vance of the Silver Crest Pack, hereby reject you, Valerie Sterling, as my mate and Luna."

The words tore through the invisible thread connecting their souls. A sharp, burning shock snapped inside Valerie’s chest—the severing of the sacred bond. Pain flared behind her ribs, so intense it nearly brought her to her knees, but she forced her spine straight. She refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing her fall.

"And in your place," Logan continued, pulling Chloe to his side, "I claim Chloe Sterling as my true Luna."

Cheering erupted from the council elders. Her father smiled, a cold, ambitious gleam lighting his eyes as he pulled a thick parchment scroll from inside his tunic.

"To ensure the transition is absolute," Richard said, stepping toward Valerie, "you will sign this, Valerie. A complete renunciation of your Sterling lineage, your inheritance rights, and your pack status. You leave tonight."

Valerie stared at the parchment. Her father had prepared it before the ceremony even began. They had planned this humiliation down to the minute.

"And if I refuse?" Valerie asked, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands.

"Then you will be declared a rogue and hunted down by our enforcers before sunrise," Logan replied coldly. "Sign it, Valerie. Save whatever dignity you have left."

Valerie looked at Logan—the boy who had promised to protect her under the ancient oaks when they were children, the man who now discarded her like garbage because her body did not match his vanity. She looked at her father, who had never once called her his daughter without a sneer. And she looked at Chloe, who was already wearing the silver Luna ring that should have been hers.

A strange, icy quiet washed over Valerie's mind. The grief dried up, replaced by something cold, heavy, and absolute.

"Give me the quill," she said quietly.

Her father handed her the iron pen with a smirk. Valerie stepped up to the stone altar. Without a word, she pressed the tip to the parchment and signed her name in bold, unflinching strokes.

Valerie Sterling.

She set the quill down, reached up to her neck, and unclasped the silver healer's medallion—the only thing her late mother had left her. She held it above the polished floor for a second, then let it drop.

The metal echoed sharply off the high stone walls.

"Keep it," Valerie said, her voice cutting through the silent hall. "You'll need healers soon enough."

Without waiting for permission, she turned her back on the Alpha, her father, and the entire cheering pack, walking out of the grand hall with her head held high.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind her, cutting off the warmth and light of the Citadel.

Outside, the winter wind howled across the stone courtyard. Snow drove down in blinding white sheets, biting into Valerie's bare shoulders and thin silver gown. They had not even allowed her to retrieve her coat.

Two armored guards flanked her to the edge of the iron gates, forcing her past the border markers into the dark, tangled depths of the Black Forest.

"Keep walking, rogue," one guard spat, shoving her into the deep snow drifts. "Don't come back."

The iron gates groaned shut, locking her out forever.

Valerie stumbled forward, her leather slippers soaking through in seconds. The sub-zero frost clawed at her skin, turning her fingers numb and her breath into ragged gasps of ice. The forest was pitch black, twisted trees groaning beneath the weight of the blizzard.

One mile. Two miles.

Her legs grew heavy. Her vision blurred at the edges as hypothermia crept into her veins. She tripped over a hidden root, crashing hard into the knee-deep snow.

She could not get up. Her heart slowed to a sluggish, painful thud.

Is this where it ends? she thought bitterly, pressing her cheek against the freezing drift. Discarded. Forgotten. Left to freeze like an unwanted dog.

As her body temperature plunged to lethal levels, something strange began to happen.

Deep within her core—beneath her ribs, locked within the soft, heavy flesh they had ridiculed her whole life—a tiny spark flickered.

Then it roared.

A searing, golden heat erupted through her veins, flushing her skin with scorching light. The snow around her body melted instantly, turning to rising white steam.

Through her fading consciousness, Valerie felt her blood burn with a power older than the packs, older than the laws of men—a blinding, primordial sun-fire awakening inside her chest.
