WHO AM I TO JUDGE?
This story of mine, started when I was just 15. I was just in highschool when I experienced the real horror and mystery of the world. When I was in that age, I think of everyone as ignorant and fools. I don't participate in extra curricular activities and every after class I'll just go home to watch movies or sleep. It's a boring type of life I know, but that time I was that kind of person. It's just because life doesn't seem to be fun for me. Then I met a classmate called Meldy. She's stubborn as hell, In fact I don't really like hanging with her because she was always talkative and optimistic, and to be honest I don't like people who are really jolly and optimistic because of one reason IT MAKES ME SICK. My introverted soul asks for peace and serenity without much involvement with other people. Anyway, despite our differences we still became friends. We eat lunch together, sit together in class, and even play games together during weekends. Because of her dedication towards our friendship, I kinda liked how she adjusted herself to me. Days went by little by little, my feelings started to grow and before I know it, we're now close. My highschool life became even more better when Meldy came to my life. That's when I realized that in life, no man is an island. Everyone must have a companion in happiness and sadness because bond will make both of you stronger together. It was hard to understand for someone like me but thanks to her I learned my lesson, even though I learned it the hard way. We were happy for the rest of our highschool days, but just when I started to feel happy in life, it seems that life doesn't want me to.
Then happened the day that we never expect to happen. The day that will change all of our lives forever. Meldy was sitting next to me that day, when a terrible typhoon hit the whole country, it was very sudden, the news didn't even predicted that it will be bad. I was in the classroom when the heavy rain poured from the sky. Lightning, thunder and dark skies ruled the atmosphere. Our teacher immediately evacuated us to the gym. The sound of the angry skies scared everyone, but me? I was just chillin. Meldy was also scared but i told her that everything is gonna be fine. A minute later, an earthquake suddenly shocked everyone, it was very strong that everyone was panicking because of the intensity. That time, I felt scared because in my life from the day that I was born till now, I have never experienced an earthquake that strong. While the earthquake was still shaking, everyone felt, a loud crack. Then after a minute of shaking, the ground cracked then after that everything collapsed. When i woke up, i found myself lightly covered by debris. I stood up and discovered the devastating disaster that I cannot ever imagine that would change my life forever. From a distance, i saw Meldy covered by debris. Immediately I ran over to helped her. She held me tight and cried as she remember the trauma that she experienced. Her left arm was wounded that time, so i ripped of my towel and wrapped it to the wounded area. After the first aid, I stood up to find some survivors, but unfortunately no one survived. I took Meldy's hand and guided her as we walked.
As we walked in the devastated road, we saw how the city buildings turned into debris. There's a lot of dead people lying on the ground and cars destroyed like a toy. My first priority that time was to seek for a drinking water, so when we found a convenience store, I immediately went inside to grab one. Everything in the store was crushed but some goods were still intact unlike the person in the cashier. His head was crushed by a metal ceiling and his blood and organs splattered everywhere. I was about to throw when I witnessed the horrifying scene. I immediately grabbed what we needed like water, foods, canned goods and many more and placed them in a bag I found in the convenience store. After everything, I went back to the streets to meet with Meldy.
"Let's go, I already got what we wanted" I said to her as i grabbed her hand.
"Did you include some things that I need there? " She replied.
"What things? I just grabbed everything that we needed" I said to her.
"I mean tampons, napkins and stuff" she replied.
"Oh okay, I'll be back" I said to her as a i went back to the store to get what she needed.
After settling everything, we walked in the dark city filled with destruction. After walking for hours, nightime came by pretty fast, I immediately tried to find a shelter that we can settle since i cannot find a single house standing for us to take shelter. In a cracked area with debris, I found a small safe area to rest. I lit a bunch of woods from the debris to form a fire for us to keep ourselves warm, then after that we went to sleep. That time when the moon is shinning bright in the sky, the horror the we experienced flashed in my mind. I got scared and cried in secret, I took some blankets to cover myself when i questioned myself
"WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED TODAY?!"
