Damien moved at breakneck speed. Even an Olympic athlete would struggle to keep up with him. His steps are almost jumping. But no matter how fast he moved, no one could outrun the bullets aiming at him. Oh, no – aiming for them. A young lady is with him, racing for her life too.
They'd been running for about 30 minutes. And Damien was aware that the young woman beside him was on the verge of collapsing. She looks exhausted.
They had reached the end of the tunnel. And all he could see was a filthy creek full of trash. Damien took a deep breath. He looked around for the men who were on the lookout for them.
Damn. They move so fast! They had no choice but to jump into the filthy creek.
"Jump," he instructed the young lady.
She appears dazed. She cannot open her mouth. "W-What…?"
"Are you deaf or what? Jump!" He yelled at her.
"But, the brook stinks!" She expressed her displeasure.
His jaw clenched The young lady is right. The water in the creek has almost turned black, indicating that there has been a lot of human waste. Disgusting.
"We have no other choice! Jump!" He shouted as he pushed her into the creek.
The poor young lady had no choice but to accept her fate. He became aware of the shadows around them. These men were following them.
The young lady remained silent and camouflage herself in the stinky creek. At the same time, he is hiding in a large tree.
He must leap too! Otherwise, this will be the end of him.
Damien jumped from the tree. When the gang notices him, they attempt to shoot him with a number of bullets.
Like an action hero, his feet landed on the ground. There were a lot of bullets aimed at him, fortunately, none of them hit him.
"This isn't a nice joke," he grumbled as he noticed a swarm of men pursuing them.
Douglas is among them. Douglas is desperate to kill him. But he's not going to let these jerks make fun of him. He pulled out his pistol and tried to shoot them as well.
He still has three bullets in him. And he needs to save the last bullets.
He saw the bodies on the ground. Damien was aware that Douglas may still be alive. The gunfire and explosions had ceased. He didn't hear anything. But one thing is sure: Douglas is wounded. He saw him bloody. And he wishes it would kill him.
The opponents had already fled. But he can't let down his guard. Who knows? Douglas asked for a backup. They can't stay here forever.
He grabbed her elbows.
Damien sawthe young lady was covered in stinky muck and garbage. She doesn't even look like a person now. She looks terrified as well.
"P-Please don't hurt me!" She begged.
"Idiot! It's me! Lower your voice, or they might find us!"
"B-But–"
"Any more buts, and I'll kill you right here!" He threatened her to avoid more questions.
The young lady swallowed hard. He can smell her.
Damien grabbed her elbows once more. Damn. She stinks like hell. She smells like a garbage. But he doesn't have much of choice.
He turns his head from left to right as they flee to ensure no one is following them. Oh, for sure, he thinks as well. They continued running down the long tunnel until they heard gunshots again.
"We have to flee! Hurry!" The large trash can is the only thing they can see from the alley. Damn, trash again!
He saw how the young lady's mouth mouthed the word "eww." But she is powerless to protest. She is trembling in terror.
There was more uproar and gunshots. Damien believes those men have left this time.
As he dragged the young lady, they saw more dead bodies around them. The terrified young lady screamed.
"Ssshh! I warned you not to make any noise!" He pointed the gun at her temples.
He sawan abandoned diner. He pushed the young lady inside and hid.
Since they were alone in the abandoned space, he could smell how foul she was.
"Yuck. Your scent makes me dizzy," he murmured.
Despite their situation, the young lady rolled her eyes. "You can't blame me. It's your fault. You throw me in the creek. Don't be so proud, you stink too!"
Damien wanted to laugh out loud. However, he wanted to conceal his real emotion. This young lady may interpret his laugh as a sign of his weakness. He couldn't let down his guard.
He needs to get information from this young lady about everything.
"How come those men are after you?"
She appears befuddled. "I really don't know," she admitted.
His brows merged into a single line.
"You don't have any idea? That is absurd! They aren't insane enough to follow you around aimlessly!"
The young lady was almost in tears.
"I already told you I knew nothing!" She whimpered like a baby.
He tried to keep his cool. "Can you tell me a little bit about yourself? Can you tell me your name?"
"My name is Paige," she introduced herself.
Damien tilted his head. "Page? Can you tell me your surname?"
"Booke,"
His expression darkened. "Look, I'm not kidding here. This is not a joke time. I wanted to know your name. Don't make me laugh! You're surname is Book, then your name is Page? What? Do you love reading?" he remarked sarcastically.
The young lady appeared agitated. "It's not what you think, idiot! My name is Paige Booke!" She spelled her name correctly. "It's not a literal book page!"
Damien bit his lower lip. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop himself from laughing this time.
His laughter filled the empty diner.
Yeah. How did he become such an idiot? Yeah. Paige Booke. Not a literal book page. What a moron he is.
But then he realized they needed to leave. He grabbed her wrist. "Enough of the talking, now let's go!"
His fingers accidentally brush up against her tits. Damn, they are huge and soft.
He shook his head. Damn! He needs to stop picturing her lovely breasts!
Damien masks his feelings by being angry at her. "You move too slowly! A turtle can even reach us! Hurry up! We have no idea how many they are!"
He saw a cheap motel while they were running. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the apartelle.
Her eyes widened with terror. "P-Please don't bring me here!"
He shot her a death stare. "You don't have a choice, or I'll slap you!" Damien forewarned her.
Of course, this is not the case. He may be ruthless, but he will never touch a woman without her permission.
Paige shook in fear and obeyed him. The receptionist sniffed them and looked as if she was about to vomit.
He took $100 from his wallet and handed it to the receptionist. "Keep the change. Now, please provide us with a room for a twelve-hour stay."
"A 12-hour stay..." He could hear Paige murmur.
When the receptionist found out how much her tip would be, her eyes twinkled with delight. He scribbled his name in the logbook, but instead of Damien Code, he wrote John Baker. Who knows? Someone noticed them entering this motel. He must be sure.
He saw two towels and bath essentials when they entered the small old room. Despite its small size, the bed can accommodate two people. There is a small window, air conditioning, and a dining table for two.
He looked at Paige and motioned her toward the bathroom.
She looked at him, pleading. "Please don't do this to me... I'm sure you're not a bad person."
In annoyance, he gritted his teeth. "I'm not a rapist, stupid! You should take a bath! You stink!"
Paige looks embarrassed.
"B-But-"
"Do you really believe I can communicate with you while smelling like trash? I'm not going to die from bullets. But I'll die from your odor," He shoved the helpless young lady into the bathroom.
"No, I'm not going to take a bath!"
"Are you challenging me? Really? Just choose: take a shower, or I'll slap you hard?" He threatens her once more.
Once again, this is all for show. He had no intention of hurting this young lady.
Her lips quivered as she complied. Paige shut the door.
Damien looked around the room. He must ensure that no one is in their vicinity. He then took off his leather jacket and shoes.
Damn. He stinks just like Paige.
He ordered food for both of them. He heard a splash of water. A sign that Paige is already showering.
Minutes later, the room boy arrived with his food order. His brow furrowed in frustration. "What is it that is taking her so long?" He muttered under his breath.
He opened the can of soda and drank it. Her full name is Paige Booke. It's strange how her name can sound like a word.
He was curious as to why those men were pursuing her. What is her relationship with those men?
He is following Douglas's group. And those men are nearly impossible to locate. And he needs to give it his all again to find those cretins. His real target is not Douglas. It was his boss. Maximo.
Maximo, according to his investigation, murdered his wife, Vanessa. He is now a widower. His marriage isn't perfect. It is far from perfect. But he loves Vanessa so much. He is devoted to his wife.
One day, he receives shocking news: his wife died in Maximo's house.
Maximo is well-known for being a dangerous mafia boss. He controls the country's largest mafia. And he's not a nice guy. Maximo is involved in a wide range of illegal activities.
He knew that looking for Maximo was impossible. So he chose to follow his favorite right-hand man, Douglas. He was about to catch Douglas when this young lady bumped him. And their fates are now already intertwined. And the next thing he knew, Douglas's group was raining bullets on them.
Damien Code is a multi-billionaire CEO. Their family is well-known for its business acumen. However, he knows how to fight and defend himself. He studied self-defense, guns, and martial arts. He had no idea he could use this skill this time.
His deceased wife's case has already been closed. However, he couldn't just let it go. His wife needs justice. And if the authorities cannot provide justice for his wife, he will take the law into his own hands. And now he's here.
His family never likes Vanessa. For what kind of reason, he doesn't know either. His father wishes for him to move on with his life. But he can't do that. He just can't.
"Damien, you must accept that she is no longer with you. Vanessa will never return. She is dead," He remember his father's final words.
He refused to accept it, and they had a heated argument. His father is too insensitive for him to ask him to move on without justice. His father also gets mad, telling him that he could only return to their hometown if he accepted that Vanessa would never return.
Damien, full of pride, never speaks to his family again. He had spent these past few years seeking justice for his late wife. He also forgot his responsibilities in the company. It's good that his assistant and secretary are controlling things for him.
He promised himself he would only let go of his wife's memories once Maximo was in jail. He could only get back on his feet and move on after seeing him suffer due to his sins.
He has already accepted Vanessa's fate. But he can't accept that Maximo is wandering around as if he didn't do anything.
The shower splashed to a halt. That brought him back to reality. But what intrigues him is that the young lady is still not out after a few minutes.
Damien felt tensed. Did she manage to flee? No! She can't get away from him. He has yet to question her.
They still have plenty to talk about!
