Samantha stood barefoot on the grass, feeling the sharpness and softness that grounded her. Each step was a reminder that she needed to stay sharp and guard her heart.
She breathed in the crisp air, allowing it to fill her lungs while trying to calm her mind. Each thought that ran through her mind kept reminding her of the happiness she had with Alpha Christopher.
But she placed those thoughts in the back of her mind. She was ready to confront the heartbreak she was about to encounter.
Tears streamed down her face as she whispered to herself, "Why is Christopher always working? The love he had shown me was not enough. I wish that he showed me more."
Just five years ago, Christopher found her beaten and bruised and took her in to help heal her. Then, when they smelled each other's scent, their love for each other grew even more. However, as the years passed by, everything started changing. The love they first had slowly dwindled, especially when his ex-girlfriend returned.
Her wolf Abigail sensed something on the other side of the garden. 'Samantha, something is happening on the other end of the garden,' her wolf whispered from the back of her mind, alerting her of the impending situation.
"What do you mean by that?" Samantha questioned, not knowing what was going to transpire next.
Once the wind picked up, Samantha got a whiff of someone familiar mixed with another person's scent.
"Why does this scent smell familiar? Is it who I think it is?" she mumbled to herself, unsure if it was truly familiar or not.
Even though she was scared, she confidently walked closer, eager to discover what was happening. Each step she took reverberated with her beating heart. Her hands started clamming up; she had a feeling that something bad was about to happen.
As she stared ahead, her heart dropped in complete and utter shock. 'Our mate is with someone else,' her wolf declared sadly. "Why is he with his ex-girlfriend? I thought they were not seeing each other anymore," she thought to herself, unable to contain the shock that riveted through her body.
Alpha King Christopher was standing in the middle of the garden hugging and kissing his ex-girlfriend, Alexandra. They had their arms wrapped around each other.
She walked over to them with a cool and calm expression. Even though her heart was beating rapidly as she inched closer, she did not want to show them their actions affected her.
"Christopher, is that you?" she asked, not willing to truly believe that he had broken her trust. Her heart broke into pieces at the evidence of betrayal between them.
Just last night she was lying in bed with him, and he told her that he loved her, but now that was a lie. They had been married for two years, and up until now, they had a good and loving relationship.
But Samantha did not know his true heart. As she approached, Alexandra noticed her first, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Well, look who's here," she declared, not bothering to step away from Christopher. "Did you finally figure it out, Samantha?"
Christopher turned, his face a mixture of guilt and annoyance. He was shocked to see the sudden appearance of his mate. "Samantha, it's not what it looks like," he started, but the words were shallow.
Samantha's eyes flickered with a mix of pain and determination. "Save it, Christopher. I don't need your excuses," she declared, not allowing his empty words to change her mind.
Suddenly, a growl echoed from the shadows, and another wolf stepped into the light—Christopher’s beta, Marcus. His eyes were locked on Alexandra, filled with an intensity that made Samantha's blood run cold.
"Alexandra, you said you were done with him," Marcus snarled, his voice trembling with barely controlled rage. "You promised me." He was angry at her for allowing him to open his heart and letting him in, and in the process, it got broken.
Samantha's heart raced as she realized there were deeper betrayals at play. Alexandra had been playing Christopher and Marcus, and now the fragile balance was about to shatter.
"Promises, promises," Alexandra taunted, stepping away from Christopher and towards Marcus. "You both thought you could control me, but you're wrong."
Christopher looked between Alexandra and Marcus, his face paling as the realization hit him. "Marcus, you... and her?"
Samantha took a step back, the ground feeling unsteady beneath her feet. This was no simple affair; it was a web of deceit and manipulation that threatened to tear their pack apart.
"Well, it seems as though you both are liars. For one, Christopher was lying with me in our bed, hugging and kissing me. And you, Alexandra, you lied to your mate, Marcus about your affair." She told them while turning toward them.
Christopher's face turned to shock, "But..." He tried to talk but was immediately interrupted.
"No, Christopher, I am done with your lies. You can no longer tell me anything." Samantha said with determination in her eyes. She then turned to Marcus and held out her hand, indicating she was ready to make Christopher jealous and regret his actions. "Marcus, let's leave these two-faced liars," she declared smugly.
They walked out of the garden and toward Marcus's home. Once there, she broke down into tears.
"How could they do this to me!? I thought I was a good wife and mate!" Samantha said through broken sobs.
Marcus walked toward her and hugged her from behind. "Don't take this the wrong way, but I do not think that the Alpha is the right one for you," he told her, hoping that his words would comfort her broken heart.
"And who do you think is the right one for me?" she asked as she tried to calm her beating heart. Marcus started shifting from one foot to the other.
