"Hurry up, Melanie, we're going to be late." A man sitting in a yellow jeep called out. He brought his head out through the window so he could call his Fiancee.
He tapped the horn repeatedly as he called out to the woman.
"Melanie!"
"I'm sorry, Andrew," The woman, Melanie, stepped out of the house wearing a blue jean and a white shirt. Her hair was let loose as she hurried towards the car. "Let's go now," She smiled as she settled in the car.
The car soon stopped in front of a tall building with the carving, 'High Court' boldly written on the wall.
Melanie cringed as she saw the carving. She tried to whisk fear out of her but that seemed difficult.
"I can take you back home if you want." Andrew offered.
He had tried every means possible to persuade her from coming to the court but she was stubborn.
Melanie insisted on coming to court to witness the judgement because only when she sees those monsters get punished can she attain peace and be free from constant fear.
"I'm fine, Andrew. I can handle this." Melanie forced a smile to reassure him.
His eyes lingered on her for a while, as if to confirm if she was truly okay.
"Trust me, Andrew. I'm fine." Melanie unhooks the seat belt and prepared to go out. She was getting impatient. "We don't want to be late, remember?"
"Yeah, right." Andrew got out of the car and hooked his hand with hers as they went inside the courtroom.
Melanie chose the front row of the audience seat so, she could witness everything that happens In the courtroom clearly without being obstructed. She wouldn't miss the judgement day of those three criminals who made her life miserable.
The courtroom soon fell to a pin drop silence as the judge walked in. Andrew squeezed her hand to support and reassure her. He wanted her to know that he was with her no matter what happened.
If Andrew had a choice, then he wouldn't bring her to the courtroom, he would keep her safe in the house and shower her with love. He could even attend the court in her place and pass the news to her later on, but Melanie wouldn't agree. She wanted to see everything with her eyes.
Left with no choice but to agree with his stubborn fiancée. Andrew could only agree to bring her to the courtroom and be her source of comfort.
Melanie looked to the side, and she forced a smile again. She squeezed Andrew's hand while her other hand grabbed the gun she had hidden in her pocket. She wouldn't mind shooting several holes through those criminals if the judgement didn't go the way it should.
They deserve death for ruining her!
She would rather have a peaceful time in jail than let those monsters walk free.
The court proceeding was about to begin, So, the criminals were brought out.
As soon as Melanie spotted Xavier, the head and leader of the three-man assault against her, she shuddered.
Her whole body trembled in fear. Beads of sweat slowly formed on her forehead. She couldn't wait to kill him. She reached out for the gun in her pocket.
She so badly wanted to put an end to him. Andrew could feel her shaking body. He noticed what she wanted to do and shook his head.
"Don't do it, Melanie. Don't ruin your life for a bastard like him." Andrew advised. But, Melanie's eyes were covered in rage.
Her body won't stop shaking. She wanted to end everything with his miserable life.
"It's not worth it, Melanie." Andrew whispered again. His low voice sending a reassuring message to Melanie's vengeful heart. "I'm right here with you. Everything will be alright." He chanted words of reassurance to her.
As soon as Xavier walked past them, his eyes landed on Melanie and his lips curled up into a sinister smile. Sending creeps all over her body.
Melanie's back broke out in cold sweat.
Andrew could tell that Xavier was enjoying torturing Melanie. He immediately covered her eyes. "Don't look at him."
Melanie tried to peel his hand off her eyes. "It's okay. I can handle this."
Melanie's voice betrayed her as it cracked. Her body was trembling and she could barely hold still until she rests her body against Andrew's.
Xavier didn't look away from her. The entire time, he was staring deeply at her but, Melanie didn't notice his eyes on her
Maybe she shouldn't have been there after all.
Melanie didn't want to back down at the last minute, she was already there, so she should just listen to the verdict.
The court clerk announced the names of the criminals and their crimes. Melanie was looking everywhere else but at Xavier.
Her heart was expectant, and she could only wait for the final judgement. That was the reason why she was there anyway.
Andrew was constantly squeezing her hand; sending warmth to her trembling body. With her back resting against Andrew's chest, Melanie felt relieved. Her tensed body slowly softened up.
She smiled at Andrew, this time a genuine smile. Her heart felt warm with him by her side. He stood by her through thick and thin, not leaving even for the slightest minute.
What more could she ask for. He was the perfect Fiancé.
If that incident hadn't happened that night, then she would be living a peaceful and worry free life with Andrew and her parents. However, things got complicated when she encountered Xavier that night.
Since then she's been living in fear.
The only thing holding her sanity Is the hope of seeing him sentenced.
The judgement was taking too long Melanie raised her head to look at the judge. She was wondering what was taking him so long to announce his verdict.
However, as soon as she raised her head, she was met with Xavier's amber orbs. He was staring down at her with his beautiful but evil eyes.
His eyes looked nowhere else but at her, reminding her of that dark night, that highway, where it all began.
