Three months ago, my father stepped down as Alpha of the Full Moon pack. Now, at eighteen, I’ve taken the mantle as the Alpha of the strongest and largest pack in South Carolina.
My name is Jaime Leann Petersen, and I’m biracial. My father, Rey, is white, and my mother, Amy, is also biracial. I stand at 5'7" with blue eyes and long, wavy brown hair.
On my eighteenth birthday, my grandparents passed down their hotel chain to me. I’m thankful that my parents agreed to manage the hotels, allowing me to focus on my Alpha duties and, more importantly, finding my Mate.
Kate, my Beta, found her Mate, Lim, two weeks ago. Sam, my Delta, found her Mate, Kevin, a month and a half ago. Tonight, Sam and Kate are going to the movies with their Mates. Sam invited me to join them, but I’m not eager to go. I hate being the only one without a Mate, but I agreed anyway.
My wolf, Liberty, has been unusually talkative today. Liberty is huge, black, with light blue eyes. She’s been telling me all day that we’ll find our Soulmate tonight. It’s strange she keeps saying "Soulmate" instead of just "Mate," but I hope she’s right. I’ll take either one.
Meanwhile...
“I’m Dr. Harvey Liam Montemayor, 25, 6’2” with brown eyes and wavy brown shoulder-length hair. I work in the emergency room at St. William’s Hospital.
Jayve has been pestering me all day about going to dinner and a movie with him and some coworkers. He insists I need to have some fun.
Jayve is my best friend and an executive at a small bank. He’s constantly setting me up on blind dates. I always tell him the same thing: I’m waiting for my Soulmate. He thinks I’m a romantic fool, but I know she’s out there somewhere, waiting for me.
After a while, I finally agreed to meet Jayve and his friends at the restaurant.
I’ve had this strange feeling all day, like something big is about to happen. I feel like my future depends on me being at the movie theater tonight.”
That Evening
“Which movie are we seeing?” I ask, scanning the titles at the theater.
“Bad Boys For Life,” Kate replies, walking up to the ticket window.
I glance around the lobby, my eyes landing on a handsome man. He’s not my Mate, but there’s something pulling me toward him.
Why am I feeling this way? I think, still staring at him.
“He’s handsome,” Liberty, my wolf, comments in my mind.
“Yes, he is,” I respond, not taking my eyes off him. “But he isn’t our Mate.”
“True, but I like him,” Liberty adds.
“I like him too,” I admit, still drawn to the man.
“Honor, are you okay?” Sam asks, noticing I’m staring.
I don’t respond. Then, I feel it—a connection.
The man’s eyes meet mine, and he freezes, like he’s feeling the same pull. We stand there, staring at each other.
“Honor?” Sam calls again, but I don’t respond. Her gaze follows mine, and she spots the man.
“Oh my, he’s handsome as hell,” Sam says, smiling.
“Who’s handsome as hell?” Kate asks, looking around the lobby.
“That tall, brown-haired guy over there—the one our Alpha can’t stop staring at,” Sam says, nodding toward him.
“Damn, he is handsome,” Kate agrees.
“Is he your Mate?” Sam whispers to me, looking at both of us.
“No, but I want him,” I answer, still looking at the man.
“YOU WANT HIM?” Kate and Sam yell, so loud that everyone in the lobby hears. The whole room turns to look at us.
The man, Harvey, smiles and walks over to me. “Hi, I’m Harvey Montemayor,” he says, still smiling.
“Hi, I’m JaimePetersen,” I reply, smiling back.
“Honor? That’s beautiful, but different. Are you here with someone?” he asks, nodding toward my friends.
“It’s my mother’s favorite actress, Jaime Grey. I’m here with my two best friends and their Mates,” I explain.
I can tell Harvey is human, but I don’t care. Liberty and I both want him. That’s all that matters.
“Would you mind if I joined you?” Harvey asks.
“I’d love that,” I reply, smiling.
“What are you all planning on seeing?” Harvey asks, looking at Kate and Sam.
“Bad Boys For Life,” Kate says, handing him a ticket.
“No, it’s fine. Let me pay for it,” Harvey insists, reaching for his wallet.
“No, no. It’s fine. Have fun, you two,” Kate says, still smiling.
“Harvey!” Jayve yells from across the lobby, walking toward us with two blonde women in tow. One of the women is clearly eyeing Harvey, smiling as if he’s a prize.
“Ready to go in?” Jayve asks, looking at me.
“This is Honor. That’s Jayve,” Harvey says, still smiling at me. “Yes, but I’m going to sit with Honor.”
I glance at the two women, noticing the one who had been eyeing Harvey earlier rolling her eyes at me.
“If you have other plans…” she starts, but Harvey cuts her off.
“No, no plans,” Harvey responds. “Jayve asked me to join him for dinner and a movie, but I worked late at the hospital. I came straight here.”
I’m surprised when Harvey chooses to sit with me, but I’m thrilled.
At the Theater
During the movie, Harvey keeps his arm around me, feeding me popcorn and holding my hand. When it ends, we head out.
“We’ll wait for you in the SUV,” Sam says, smiling at us.
“It was nice meeting you,” Lim, Kevin, Sam, and Kate say in unison.
“Nice meeting you all too,” Harvey responds, his attention back on me. “If you’re not in a hurry to go home, would you like to grab something to eat? I’ll take you home afterward.”
“I’m not in a hurry. I’d like that,” I reply, smiling.
After the Movie
Harvey and I end up at Big Bulls, a local restaurant with great food. The conversation flows easily between us as we discover we have a lot in common.
“You’re my Soulmate,” Harvey says suddenly, his gaze softening.
I smile, feeling that same undeniable connection. “I think so too.”
We enjoy the night, talking about art, music, and movies. But I can’t ignore the nagging feeling that there’s something I need to tell him about my world, about being an Alpha.
