At a police station in a district of Salt Lake City.
"Ah, such a pitiful little girl, lost for ten years and finally found her way back. You must take good care of her," said the policewoman as she pushed open a room door.
Inside the room sat a young girl, dressed in a simple and rustic manner, with a pink flower hairpin on her head, which further accentuated her earthy appearance. Seeing someone enter, the girl immediately stood up uneasily.
The girl's name was Rose Hunter, who was 20 years old this year. Before she was 10, she was just like any other city kid, having a happy and fulfilling life. However, due to a tragic accident, both of her parents died, and she became an orphan.
At that time, her uncle and aunt, who were supposed to be living in the countryside, rushed to the city to help handle the aftermath of Rose's parents. But less than half a year later, Rose got lost during a solo outing and was never heard from since.
Meanwhile, her uncle Matt and his family used the inheritance left by Rose's parents to start their own business. In just a decade, they managed to grow their business significantly and established themselves as well-known entrepreneurs in Salt Lake City.
It was at this point that their niece, whom they had long forgotten, suddenly returned.
According to the police, after Rose got lost, she was adopted by an elderly rural couple and only recently left the countryside to return to Salt Lake City. Upon seeing familiar scenes, she remembered getting lost and decided to report to the police.
Matt had sent his wife, Carol, to pick her up from the police station.
Ten years ago, Carol disliked this niece from her husband's family. But back then, she was eyeing the Hunter family's assets and was always kind-hearted towards Rose.
Fast forward to ten years later, things are not the same.
Carol transformed into a wife of a successful entrepreneur, dressing in luxurious jewelry and held in high esteem wherever she goes.
Then there's Rose, dirty and rustic. If the wealthy socialites found out she has a niece like this, they would surely laugh their heads off.
If it wasn't for her husband's admonition to bring her back, Carol would certainly dump her on the street and let her fend for herself.
By the time they returned home, Matt had also just arrived.
"Rosie is back, let me have a look at you dear. Why are you so thin? How much have you suffered all these years! It will be better from now on, with me here, you won't have to suffer again. From now on, this is your home, feel free to stay as long as you want!” Unlike Carol being cold, her husband Matt is quite enthusiastic. After warmly inquiring about Rose, he lets the maid take her to the guest room to rest.
Seeing this just makes Carol angry. Pointing her finger at her husband, she scolds, “Matt, what did you just say? Let outsiders live in our house? No way, I will never agree to her staying here, tell Rose to get lost first thing tomorrow morning!”
Matt quickly covers his wife’s mouth, “Lower your voice, don’t let her hear.”
Carol sneers, “So what if she hears? Does she really think she’s still the young girl from back then? Now, she's just an uneducated, orphan country girl! We have our own darling daughter. We can’t take in any burdens!”
Matt lowers his voice, “You actually remember that you have a darling daughter? Do you want to see our daughter marry a lunatic?”
He points to the guest room upstairs, “I was worrying about how to solve this issue, but the heavens have answered our prayers.”
Carol suddenly understands, “You mean to have her marry the crazy son of the Miller family in place of our Cami? Wouldn't that be too generous? It is the Millers after all!”
Matt becomes annoyed, “Why are you still thinking about the Millers' status? I said from the beginning, how could such a prestigious family marry our low-class daughter. But it was you who agreed without any investigation, leading to them forcing a marriage, leaving us with no way out. Now, isn't it perfect? Marry Rose off and the problem will be solved, right?”
His wife nods repeatedly, “You are always the thoughtful one. Anyway, when the marriage contract was established, they only asked for a daughter of the Hunter Family, they didn’t specify not to take a niece.”
Matt nods, “Well, marrying that crazy man is a stroke of luck for Rose."
Second floor guest room.
Rose takes off her hairpin, presses the talk button, “Is White Wolf there?”
"Following orders!"
Rose, in a departure from her previous timid manner, inquires in a cold voice, “How's the situation in County Y?”
"As per your command, all have been wiped out!"
"What about the hostages in S-county?"
"They have been successfully rescued with no casualties." The voice over the communicator hesitated, saying, "The Millers' case isn't really significant compared to international matters. There's no need for you to personally intervene.”
Rose said, "I haven't been back home for a long time, so I may as well treat it as a vacation."
After cutting off the communication, Rose reclipped her hairpin. This was currently the most advanced communication device globally, integrating recording, communication, and video capabilities, which could only be activated by her fingerprint.
Just then, an arrogant female voice came from outside, "What? Did some country bumpkin move into our house? A cousin? I refuse to acknowledge her! Get out of my house immediately!"
Following the loud slam of a door, a young girl dressed in high-end fashion and heavily made up appeared.
With one look, Rose recognized her, it was her cousin, Camila.
She took one glance at Rose and said disdainfully, "I don't care what my parents are thinking, but I don't consider you a relative. I can't let my circle of friends know I have a poor cousin like you."
Rose's eyes were calm, and after letting her ramble on for a while, she finally added, "I need to rest now, please leave."
At her words, Camila bristled, "This is my house, how dare you ask me to leave? Who do you think you are? A wild girl, who doesn't know her place?"
She stepped forward, intending to slap Rose.
But before her hand could land, Rose threw her over her shoulder, causing her to crash heavily on the floor, unable to make any sound due to the pain.
This was Rose holding back, only using a fraction of her strength. Otherwise, she could have easily broken several of Camila's bones.
Both parents hurried over upon hearing the commotion. They saw their darling daughter lying on the floor, finally recovered enough to start crying.
While crying she pointed at Rose and complained, "This mad girl hit me. Mom and Dad, you've let an animal into our house! If you don't kick her out today, I'm going to run away from home!"
Carol helped her daughter up, staring fiercely at Rose, and said, "We kindheartedly took you in, how could you be so violent? Not to mention, she's your cousin!"
Matt, somewhat composed, asked, "Rosie, what happened?"
Rose hung her head low, as if acknowledging her mistake, "Cami just came in wanting to drive me out and was about to hit me. I, I was bullied in the country and got scared, so I reflexively fought back, and accidentally... I'm sorry, Uncle Matt, I won't do it next time."
Matt was originally going to scold her a bit, but considering his plans, he swallowed his anger.
"It's alright, it's not entirely your fault. You take a rest now, later I'll have someone bring you food." He finished speaking and then took his daughter, who was still whimpering, and left.
Once they were gone, Rose lifted her head; the originally timid eyes suddenly turned extraordinarily sharp.
Rose's return this time was with a purpose. Her target was one of the top three wealthy families in the Z county−the Millers.
Jeremy Miller, the original head of the Millers, was in the prime of his life, but he mysteriously went insane. The strangeness of the whole incident was likely the key to this mission.
Utilizing her marriage contract, Rose was going to infiltrate the Millers and investigate the matter.
