Chapter

The sun shines bright, even putting a little of its rays in Emma's eyes.

“Ugh!”. She's not very pleased.

She lazily gets up not at all prepared for the day, talk less of the week.

She stands up for a while, asking herself what time it was.

Then she takes one small step.

“One small step for Monday, o e big step for..”

She's caught off guard.

She's in the air and on the ground in a split second.

She groaned in pain.

She already gave up.

She wasn't ready to do this all over again.

“Do I really have to go to work today?”.

Emma asked herself.

“What did I even slip on? She turned around and saw a banana peel.

Emma was clearly confused as she wondered why she'd have a banana peel in her room. Then it comes to mind.

Her room is tiled.

She then rubs her eyes as though she was trying to reset them.

She then realises that she wears glasses.

She starts crawling on the floor, trying to feel her way around the room that she's in.

Then she feels it…

But as expected, it's broken in half.

“Why? Why is this always happening to me?”. She asked even more fed up of the day. She tries putting them together, supporting each half with her fingers and thumbs.

Then she sees clearly the room she had been in, the kitchen.

“The kitchen?”. She stood up.

“What was I doing here?”. She asks herself as she picks up the banana peel and puts it in the compost bin.

She washes her hands and walks off, firing her ability to remember what took her to the kitchen and what made her sleep there.

She's just brushed it off.

“Maybe, I'll check the security cameras later”. She thought as she walked over the shards of broken glass from her glasses.

She gets a broom and cleans up, trying to be as careful as possible.

“I really liked that frame..”. She shrugged, still disappointed.

“I guess I'm going shopping today”. She puts her hair in a bun and puts it with her eyes closed.

“Welp! I better keep my eyes open”. She thought squinting her eyes while trying to make out the way in her house.

“I guess I should try contact lenses instead, if that's what they are even called..”. Emma keeps babbling to herself, getting herself ready for the day ahead of her.

Then her alarm goes off. A little older that she remembers setting and Emma got spooked and hit her head on the drawer while she was following her skincare routine.

“Ouch!” She felt a tear go down her face. She wasn't always this clumsy, she didn't understand what was going on today.

“Well, maybe it's one of them bad days”. She said in a funny accent, easing herself of the pain by cracking jokes.

“Thirty minutes?”. She quickly washed off the things she applied in her face and went to have a nice bath.

“I know I'm too late for a Monday but it's clearly not my fault”.

“Ding ding ding!”. Her phone rang.

With soap suds in her eyes, she frantically turns the shower on to save herself.

But in the spirit of her bad luck, she puts on the hot water instead of cold.

“Ahh”. She screamed immediately, turning it off and putting the cold on.

She just sat there on the little rest stop after that little unfortunate incident. She really wanted to go back to sleep but she had an important meeting today.

Emma was so much in her head that she forgot she had missed an important call, a business call at that. How did she know it was a business call?

She just believed so, because she lost contact with her parents at birth and ended up in foster care, being a reserved kind, you'd never expect her to keep bonds and all that but there was this one person she didn't ever lose a bond with, a fellow kid at the time and…

“Ding ding ding!”. There it was again the business call ringtone.

She stretched over to pick her call.

“Hello, Miss Emmanuella, where are you?”

She was shocked; normally she'd expect the receptionist’s voice.

Not her boss’s own.

She fumbled with her phone, her fingers still slippery from the shower still clinging to the soap suds

“Hello? Yes..yes I can.. oh!”. She nearly dropped her phone, but mistakenly ended the call. It rang again, this time Emma was horrified. After a few minutes of panic, she answered the call.

“I am so sorry ,sir. I am not in my best state this morning. I should be out as soon as possible”. He didn't say a word.

Just cut the call, she was holding her breath waiting for a reply or maybe an angry “you’re fired!”. But she got none of that.

She didn't know what to think but she hurried through her prep and soon she was out the door and on the road.

A few minutes later, she's in the office building. She walks as quickly as she can, avoiding an accident.

Taking a deep breath, she reminded herself it wasn't just any Monday, she had to show a co-worker around, and she had a promotion waiting.

Her stomach fluttered nervously, though she didn't know it yet.

“Alright” she mumbled to herself walking as calmly as possible.

“Let's not try to break anything else before the boss sees me”.
