Cassandra's POV

I sat high on the clouds, immersed in my thoughts.

As angels, we don't sleep. Especially guardian angels. We are ordered by God to watch over humans.

I am a guardian angel, and also the seventh angel of the highest realm- heaven. I never liked being an angel. Don't get me wrong- being an angel is nice. But sometimes, it all becomes overwhelming.

We're ordered around by God to take care of the humans. We send their prayers to God to grant them. And if they've been good, God will definitely answer their prayers.

I always enjoy the feeling of happiness when I see the humans happy too.

But sometimes, I wish to be a human. I want to know what it feels like being mortal. Even if it was just for a day. But, I couldn't betray God, and leave my duties unattended to or else, he'd toss me away just like how he tossed Lucifer to hell. You know the story.

Once a human is created by God and placed on the earth, God will assign an angel to become his or her guardian. The human becomes the Angel's Charge.

Some angels are assigned with multiple Charges, and sometimes, two angels are assigned to one Charge. However, some angels have failed with their Charges.

For me, my Charge is Mike. Right from when he was a baby, I guarded him- granted his wishes, and always took his prayers to Archangel Uriel;

The Archangel of truth

, who in turn, took his prayers to God.

Now, Mike has grown to become a handsome young man. He was working already- had a great future ahead of him.

I want to see him- to really see his face, but I can't.

Once, an angel named Tamara, fell in love with her Charge. She betrayed God, and became mortal just because of him. God was really angry at her act, and so he banished her to hell for eternity.

I couldn't deny the fact anymore. I was in love with my Charge- with Mike, but I couldn't do anything about it.

As I sat there on the clouds still immersed in my thoughts, a familiar voice interrupted me.

"Cass! Cassie!"

"Hey, Dina". I greeted.

Dina is my best friend. We've been assigned to the same Charge once before, and it was great. Since then, Dina and I have become inseparable.

"Are you thinking about him again?"

"About who?"

"Come on Cass, you know what I'm talking about. Your Charge- Mike".

"Shhh…" I said, placing my finger on her lips. "We could be heard, Dina".

"Have you forgotten where we are? We're in heaven, Cass. God hears everything".

"That's the reason why we shouldn't discuss this right now. I've asked for his forgiveness countless times".

"So, are you going to give up on him like that?"

"I'm not giving up on him. He's my Charge".

"Look, I know you really want him to see you. I know you want to be human. You've complained about it countless times, and I found a way to help you". Dina said, with her voice barely a whisper.

"You did? How?" I asked, in disbelief.

"I've been in contact with Tamara".

"What!? H…how?"

"That's not important Cass. Look, I just want to help you. She gave me something. Come on, follow me".

Dina said, and I followed her.

"Here". She said, giving me a little jar.

"What's this?" I asked, staring continuously at the little jar. It had a purple-powdery essence in it.

"It's something that'll help turn you into a human for a few days. Five days at most".

"Five days? How am I supposed to get Mike's attention in five days?"

"You're beautiful Cass. I'm sure you'll find your way around that. I can cover for you for the next few days".

"You'd do that?"

"Yeah".

"What if something goes wrong? What if I get banished like Tamara?"

"None of that will happen, Cass. You worry too much".

"So, what now?"

"When you're going down to earth to watch your Charge, take the jar with you. You can open the jar, and the purple- powdery essence as you called it, will flow right through you, making you human. It may hurt a little though".

"What about you, Dina?"

"What about me?" Dina asked.

"Aren't you going to come too?"

"No. I have nothing to come to. Remember my Charge died already. I haven't been assigned another one yet. Don't worry, I'll be fine here. If you're worried, I'll be watching over you".

"Thanks, Dina". I said, embracing her.

"It's no problem. Come on, let's go before we're summoned".

********

It was time to go to earth for our respective Charges. This was it. I was finally going to become a human- even if it was only for a few days.

I watched as Archangel Gabriel called our names, and respective Charges, and the angels went down to the earth to guard them.

I squeezed the jar in my palm. Thankfully, it was small.

Finally, the Archangel called out my name, and I went down to earth.

Mike was in his living room, looking all sad. He had never been so sad, so I wondered what was going on.

I stood at a corner, watching him intently. What made him so sad?

I had to make him see me. But.. how?

I walked over to where he sat, and placed my palm on his forehead. That made him a little drowsy. I still stood, waiting for him to finally drift off to sleep.

After a while, he finally slept off. This was my chance.

I went to a corner of the living room, and opened the jar. The purple-powdery essence escaped from it, and entered me.

My eyes were heavy, and filled with tears. What was happening? I have never cried before. My palms were sweaty. My temperature increased, and my breath fastened its pace.

Was this what it felt like being human? It was terrifying!

I struggled to breathe, to hold myself together but then, I fell to the floor, and everything went black.
