AN UNUSUAL BRIGHTNESS WOKE ME. I opened my eyes to see a bright yellow light streaming through my window.

I don't know why but I tend to have an unnatural reaction to sunlight; not in an extreme way but sometimes I feel uncomfortable when it's too hot. I told my mom but she told me it was normal and got me a sunscreen. Speaking of mom, I hurriedly left my room to go water the flowers in the garden. I remembered her threats to ground me for a week and I wasn't going to let that happen.

"Morning mom", I greeted. My mom was on her way to the kitchen while I was on my way to the garden shed to get the gardening tools.

"Morning sweetie", she replied my greeting with a warm smile on her face. Her smile always makes my heart flutter, I can't seem to get enough of it. "Seems like my threat was worth it, huh?" She added with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes at her and strolled off to get the gardening tools. After I was done, I left for the kitchen to assist my mom in making breakfast

"What's for breakfast?" I asked, opening the fridge to bring out a bottle of milk

"Bacon and eggs, your favorite" I turned to stare at her in shock; did she just call bacon and eggs my favorite?

"Mom, bacon n' eggs is not my favorite, hell, I don't even like them like that. They are your favorite"

She rolled her eyes at me- I got that from her- " whatever, you asked what's for breakfast I told you what's for breakfast". I sighed and shook my head on exasperation. Sometimes she can be really frustrating.

"I'll be going to the beach today to hang out with some friends if you don't mind". I said while pouring myself a glass of milk

"I don't mind as long as you don't stay out too late, you know how I get when you come later than eight pm". She said and flipped the eggs. I've always wondered why she had a problem with me coming home later than eight.

"Sure mom but why don't you like me coming home later than eight pm"

She sighed and shook her head, "there are things that.... nevermind dear, just make sure you come home early". She served me the bacon n'eggs and turned to serve herself. I don't know why she always does that. Whenever I ask why she doesn't like me staying out late like my friends, she starts to say it but always end it with 'nevermind dear'. I hate it but I've never successfully forced anything out of her and I wasn't planning to start now.

When we were done with breakfast, I left to get ready for the beach day with my friends. I wore a blue tank top with black shorts and tied my hair up in a ponytail. My hair length reached the middle of my back and its color was weird- my mom said I took my dad's hair color and texture though I've never met him and she hardly talks about him, just comments here and there- it was golden brown and tends to reflect a reddish brown color under the sun and had a tint of black in it.

That wasn't the only weird thing about me; my eyes were even weirder. They changed colors according to my mood-makes it difficult to hide things from my mom, all she needs to do is look at my eyes to know how I truly feel- they were a combination of topaz and obsidian with a touch of gray and blue. I got the blueish-gray from my mom and the topaz and obsidian from my dad, at least that's what she says.

Apart from the weird hair and eyes that I took from my dad, I was my mom's exact replica. I was kinda her photocopy just the plain version. My mom's skin was always flushed so much that one would think she blushed a lot, whereas mine was pale and white like I had no blood in me, my friends nicknamed me Snow White. I had really thin waist with thick thighs and my breasts were well shaped and round just like my mom's. I looked eighteen than my actual age sixteen in body form, my face is the one that shows that I'm actually younger than I seem.

"I'm off", I called while rushing out the door.

" Don't be late" she yelled. I sighed and shook my head while walking hurriedly to the beach.

"Maisie!", my best friend, Lena yelled while running to meet me, her red hair blowing in the wind.

"Hey Lena", I replied, giving her a side hug.

" You're late!, What took you so long?"

"Sorry, I had to water the flowers, I pinky promise not be late next time", I said raising my pinky finger not knowing that'll be the last time I'll ever see her. "So what are your plans for today?"

"Well...., I was hoping we could go on a double date with Mike and Jason" she said wincing a little.

"Jason?, JASON!!. You set up a date with me and Jason?!, Lena!!"

"Actually it's a double date so..."

"It doesn't matter!!"

"Look I'm sorry okay?, Jason really likes you, like likes you likes you and I just felt you should give him a chance. If it doesn't work out at the end of the day I promise not to get involved in your romantic life"

"Not like I have any choice", I murmured.

"Common Maisie just say yes, it's just a few hours, how bad can it be?" Lena said with a shrug.

"Fine but it better be worth it".

Lena and I walked to where Mike and Jason sat and joined them at the table. Lena whispered something into Mike's ear and they both stood up to leave.

"Have fun", Lena said with a smirk on her face and winked at me before walking off with Mike.

"Lena!", I growled. I am so gonna murder her when she comes back.

"Hi Maisie", Jason greeted, his face turning redder by the second.

"Hey Jason", I said with a fake smile on my face. This is gonna be a long day.

Jason and I were strolling hand in hand on the beach. He was not as bad as I thought he was. We got to know each other; likes, dislikes, favorite movies; we do not have anything in common by the way but what does it matter as long as we like each other. We stopped strolling and sat down on the sand, staring into the horizon.

"I'll have to leave soon", I said breaking the silence.

" Why?" He asked, turning to face me.

"My mom doesn't like me staying out late", I sighed. "She never told me why but I don't wanna disobey her, don't get me wrong though, I had a great time with you, it's just that....."

"Oh! I totally understand", Jason said cutting me off. "I'll walk you home if you don't mind".

"I don't". I smiled and leaned towards him, my lips mere inches from his. I've never been kissed before and I was curious; I really didn't mind Jason being my first. He leaned towards me too and kissed me. Oh my gosh!!, His lips were so soft and tasted of strawberry- thanks to the strawberry ice cream we both ate-. His tongue slipped into my mouth and I pulled away.

"Sorry", he said and smiled sheepishly.

"We should go", I said standing up and dusting the sand off my shorts. He stood up, slipped his hands in mine and walked me home.
