Selene 'POV
"I’ve signed," Alpha Kieran said, not bothering to look at me. "Your turn."
Kieran’s Alpha presence overwhelmed the room. The golden sunlight outlined the curve of his shoulders, the rigid control in his posture. My wolf, Elena, whimpered inside me, folding into herself at the feel of his dominance.I barely recognized the cold, detached voice that once spoke to me in gentle tones—if ever.
I looked down at the divorce papers again. Three years of being his mate, and this was how it ended? My heart thudded painfully, and Elena howled in grief.
"Since we had a prenuptial agreement," he continued, "there won't be any issues with asset division. You'll receive two million dollars and a house in the West District. My grandfather wouldn't be pleased if you left the pack empty-handed."
The words hit harder than any slap. My mouth went dry. Money? A house? That was all I had amounted to in his eyes?
"Does... your grandfather know you're severing our mate bond?" I asked, barely able to push the words past my throat.
He laughed under his breath, bitter and humorless. "Does it matter? Or should I remind him how you broke his family's heirloom? Could you face him after that?"
My fingers clutched the edge of the table. I could still feel the weight of the bracelet in my palm the day it cracked—cracked, not shattered. But he never believed me. He never even asked.
“Kieran...” My voice trembled. I stepped forward, using the table for support. “Please don’t do this. We don’t have to break the bond. I swear on the Moon Goddess—I didn’t break the bracelet.”
He turned then. My breath caught.
He was still beautiful. Painfully so. The strong lines of his face, the depth in his icy eyes—he could cut through me with a single glance. Elena whimpered again, instinctively submitting under his scrutiny.
"Stop lying," he said, his voice sharper now. "You deliberately broke it to come between Evelyn and me. Why bother denying it?"
"That’s not true!" I gasped, my voice breaking. "I love you, Kieran. I still love you. Even if you never loved me back...I wanted to be your Luna."
He didn’t flinch. Just waved me off like I was a buzzing gnat.
“I’m done, Selene.” His hand cut the air in dismissal. “This has dragged on long enough.”
He took a step closer, not out of intimacy—but authority.
"You becoming my mate three years ago was a mistake. You knew I was rebelling against my grandfather. You knew I had feelings for someone else, but circumstances kept us apart. Now the three-year contract has ended, and Evelyn is back. I’m going to make her my Luna. You need to step aside."
I lowered my gaze as crystal tears fell silently onto the table. I wiped them away quickly, but he noticed. I saw it in the slight twitch of his jaw, the brief storm in his expression. But he said nothing.
His phone rang.
He answered in an instant. “Evelyn? Where are you?”
His voice softened. Gentle. Loving.
"I’m at the airport, Kieran," came Evelyn’s honey-sweet reply.
"I thought you weren’t arriving until tonight..."
"I wanted to surprise you!"
"Wait for me. I’m coming right now."
He swept past me like I was nothing but smoke. The scent of him lingered, but it was no comfort—only pain.
Ten years of silent love. Three years as mates. I had poured my soul into the Spiritwhisper Pack, into him. And in return, I was nothing more than a failed transaction.
The mate bond burned in my chest. Elena curled tighter inside me.
Still, I reached for the pen. My hands shook as I signed my name beneath his. My tears smudged his elegant signature.

I carried Evelyn through the front doors of the packhouse like we were some fairytale come to life. Her arms wrapped around my neck, her perfume sweet and familiar. Pack members stopped what they were doing to greet us. Smiles bloomed everywhere.
She leaned into me, her voice a soft whisper. "We shouldn’t be doing this so publicly, Kieran. You’re still technically bonded. She’ll be hurt."
"She won’t dare," I said coolly. "There was never love between us. Just a contract. She knows where she stands."
Across the room, I spotted Selene. She was setting the table in the dining hall, moving like a ghost. No drama. No pleading. Still trying to be useful. Still trying to cling to some shred of belonging.
Pathetic.
"Alpha! Alpha!" Beta Thomas burst through the doorway. "Your Luna—she’s gone!"
"Gone? What do you mean gone?" I snapped.
"Just now. She took nothing. Just removed her apron and left through the back gate. A black car picked her up."
I rushed to our bedroom. Clean. Tidy. No trace of her scent except on the divorce papers left neatly on the nightstand.
Tears.
I moved to the window. A black Rolls Royce was speeding away.
Hours ago she’d been begging to stay. Now she was gone, like prey vanishing into the woods.
I pulled out my phone. "Plate number SJ-A9999. Trace it."
Minutes passed.
"It’s registered to the CEO of KS Group, Alpha."
My jaw clenched. KS Group… The Shadowmoon Pack’s heir.
Selene? That quiet girl with no friends, no social media, no power—she knew him?
And she left with him?
Impressive.
"Also, Alpha… the mate bond… you chose to sever it today?"
"What about it?" I barked.
"It’s just… today is her birthday."
I froze.

The car smelled like leather and home. Aaron, my brother, held my hand gently, like he was afraid I’d fall apart.
"Your second brother has a fireworks show planned," he said. "A million-dollar one, just for you."
I gave him a weak smile. "I don’t feel like watching fireworks tonight."
I leaned against him, the weight of the day pressing into me. Once again, I was the princess of the Shadowmoon Pack. Not the Luna of Spiritwhisper. Not his mate.
I opened my phone. No messages from Kieran.
But one from Evelyn.
[You knew I’d take back what’s mine. Kieran was never yours. You were just a placeholder. Crawl back to wherever you came from.]
I smiled. Bitter. Hollow.
"Selene? Second thoughts?" Aaron’s voice was warm, his wolf on edge.
"Today’s my birthday," I said quietly.
He cursed under his breath. "That bastard chose today on purpose."
"Which is why I’m glad it ends today."
I opened my eyes. The tears were gone. So was the longing. Elena stood tall inside me. She wasn’t broken anymore.
"I survived this long," I whispered. "If I ever look back… may the Moon Goddess strike me down."
And I meant every word.
