Aileen's POV
Sigh!
Still no result!
I sigh once again before looking up from my computer. I stand up to stretch my stiff body.
"Me~ow! Me~ow!"- glancing down at my feet as I felt something soft rub on me. I see a bright blue round eye staring at me as she rubs her head on my legs once again.
"Hi Moon, I bet you are hungry now huh."- I said as I pick her up.
Moon is Ms. Melanie's cat, but it's been a year since she's gone missing.
Oh right! I haven't introduced myself, I'm Aileen Brent. I just turned 19 this year. I have long, curly brown hair and mint green eyes. I'm 5'4 tall, I have a slim figure and fair skin.
I currently work as a blogger for two years. It's not much, to be honest, but it helps in paying the bills. I also work part-time as a storyteller at a book store every weekend.
My parents? I don't know... I don't remember what happened during that accident ten years ago.
All I know is that Ms. Melanie had helped me and adopted me. I was hospitalized for a week and she's the one who is always there for me. Ms. Melanie is my elementary English teacher. She's always so kind to me ever since.
That's why when she heard about the accident she instantly visited me at the hospital. She was just 29 years old when she decided to adopt me.
My parents' relatives visit me for one day then abandon me the next day.
That's why Melanie is the one who took care of everything, she paid the bills and everything else. She's the one who paid everything for my tuition and everything I needed. I owe her so much that I won't stop trying to find out what happened to her.
"Come on Moon."- I spoke while hugging her, I promise myself that I won't cry and that I will take care of Moon.
I walk out of my room and went straight to the kitchen. I'm living in a small apartment two blocks away from Melanie's old apartment, which is still empty.
The landlady of her apartment told me that Melanie brought the whole apartment from her. Two weeks before she went missing. She said she didn't know how she went missing, no one ever saw her leave her apartment that day but... No one saw her again.
I put Moon down gently and grab her bowl, Moon is a white ragdoll cat with blue eyes.
I open a can of cat food as Moon stares at me. I transfer the food from the can to her bowl as I gently place down her bowl in front of her. She looks at me as she blinks slowly then ate her food happily. Aww! She's so cute!
Then I went to my fridge and open it, I grab a carton of milk and close the fridge.
Opening one of my cabinets, I grab a glass before pouring the milk.
"I think it's time to shop some groceries, let's see I think I still have some food for lunch and for dinner. Then I will go shopping tomorrow."- I mutter to myself as I look at my list taped to the fridge. Yes, I tape my grocery list to my fridge since I don't have magnets. I kept losing my magnets because of Moon.
I grab my glass of milk before drinking it slowly, still staring at the fridge.
*Knock! * * Knock! *
I jump in surprise when someone suddenly knocks at my door. I almost let go of the glass, a good thing I didn't, or else I have to clean up the mess before Moon decides to play with it.
Putting down the glass, I went out of the kitchen. Making my way to my small living room before facing the front door.
"Yes?"- I ask once I open the door.
"Ayle!
pronounced as aisle
."- the woman with short grey hair exclaim.
"Miss Silver!"- I exclaimed in shock to see Melanie's landlady.
Miss Flor C. Silver is Melanie's former landlady, she is 59 years old. She is a short woman with proper posture and a skinny figure. She has short grey hair and blue eyes. She's always wearing clear black glasses and a silver bracelet in her right hand. Perfect fit for her surname which is Silver.
"Is there anything I can do for you?"- I ask her in a polite tone, as I open my door widely for her to come in.
"Ah, no thank you. I'm just here because I have something to tell you."- she said as she enters my living room.
"Do you want something to drink?"- I offer her because it's just polite to offer your visitor something to drink.
"Don't bother child, sit down."- she stated as she sat down comfortably.
I sat down on the opposite couch and look at her. I wonder what she's going to tell me.
"Do you remember what I said last week right?"- she asked me as she looks at me straight in the eyes.
"Yes, that you decided to renovate some parts of Melanie's apartment."- I replied as I recall what she said to me last week.
"Yes. Melanie told me before, that you are going to transfer to her apartment once the renovation is done."- she said as my eyes widen in surprise.
Melanie didn't say anything to me about that. The reason why I have a different apartment from her is that I don't want to always rely on her.
That's also the reason why I have had part-time jobs before so I can pay my rent and why I became a blogger.
"But, what about this apartment?"- I ask. To be honest, I'm still confused about why Melanie wants me to transfer to her home.
"Don't worry about that sweetheart, you have a room ready for you in Melanie's house. And I will talk to your landlady about this apartment okay?"- she said with a soft smile on her face.
"Okay, I will just pack my things."- I answer, as I smile at her.
"Of course, you can transfer to your room anytime. Here's the key to the house and to your room."- she spoke before giving me a set of keys.
I forgot to mention, Melanie's apartment is actually a small house. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one small kitchen, and one living room.
"And Aileen... Everything will be okay."- she said softly, as she gazes at me with sympathy. A small smile forms on her lips.
I just smile at her in return and stand up from my chair.
After Ms. Silver left I start to pack my things from my room until I notice the letter Melanie left for me.
