"Darling, I don't have any money again. Give me another five thousand."
Jack Wasserman stretched out his right hand shamelessly with a smile on his face.
"No, I won't give you even a penny. Jack, do you really think our family is your ATM? I've just given you 5,000 last week and you used it up so quickly again."
"Oh, don't be so stingy! It's just 5,000. Honey, when I'm in a bad mood, I might have to do some inappropriate things. If I make the front page accidentally, it's your family that will lose face."
Seeing Jack's careless attitude, Emma Spence felt that her body ached from anger.
She still couldn't understand why her grandfather had forced her to break up her ex—boyfriend and to marry this useless jerk three years ago.
Any other men would be obedient and diligent when they married into another family, but Jack was very different. He never went to work or helped the Spence family out, and he was never ashamed to ask them for money. Emma's husband was just an arrogant idler.
What was even more unbelievable was that her grandfather had taken Jack's side. He forbad Emma to divorce Jack, otherwise he would take back the small company run by Emma.
"Jack, this is the last time I will give you extra money. You only have an allowance of 5,000 a month from now on."
"Alright, honey. I swear this is the last time." Jack raised his left hand.
Well, the same words again. What a lousy husband Emma's grandfather had chosen for her.
Although Jack looked like a decent guy, he just idled around and did nothing all day. All he knew was to ask her for money.
He had no skills, no ambition, and not even a sense of shame. No matter how the Spences mocked him, Jack did not seem to care about their words at all, as if he was proud of being a slacker.
Emma's only comfort was that Jack had kept his promise and slept on the floor every night for three years. He had never touched Emma.
Emma let out a long sigh. Without the mood to eat, she directly went to the company without having breakfast.
Two hours later.
Jack got a transfer of 5,000 on WeChat.
Jack felt refreshed as he got the money. He hummed a tune as he walked into the living room.
His mother—in—law, Helen Spence, was mopping the floor. She got angry the moment she saw him.
"Jack, you asked Emma for money again today, didn't you? You're a grown man, and you have your own hands. Why don't you blush at living off a woman? Have you no shame?"
Jack was already used to the daily scolding.
He crossed his legs and sat on the sofa to watch the news as bold as brass.
"Jack, our family is not wealthy nor powerful. You're going to make us poor sooner or later if you just sit there and do nothing. If you still have some self—respect, you should go out and get a job. You can deliver packages or food. Anything is better than just sitting around at home."
"Helen, you're blaming the wrong person. It was Mr. Paul that has begged me to marry Emma. I tried to refuse, but he wouldn't agree. If it wasn't for his sincerity, I wouldn't have even come here."
Jack talked back shamelessly. He did not care about his mother—in—law's feelings at all.
However, what he said was the truth. Back then, it was indeed Emma's grandfather, Paul Spence, who had begged Jack to marry Emma.
Just at that moment, the doorbell rang.
"Go and open the door. If you don't go to work, you can at least open the door, can't you?" Helen yelled.
"No, it's not like somebody is looking for me." Jack did not move at all.
Any other son—in—law would try his best to play up to his mother—in—law, but Jack did not bother to do anything for Helen at all.
Helen had no other choice but to open the door by herself.
Outside the door stood a handsome man with a gift in his hand.
"Ms. Helen, it has been a long time since I saw you last. I'm back. Is Emma home?"
When Helen saw the man at the door, she was immediately overjoyed.
"Harold, when did you come back? Why didn't you tell me about it? Emma is at the company now. Come in and have a seat. She will come back for lunch."
The guest was Harold Warden. He was the second young master of ZC Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and also Emma's childhood sweetheart.
Three years ago, he and Emma almost tied the knot. Helen had put all her effort in making Emma marry into a wealthy family like the Warden family.
However, nobody knew why Emma's grandfather suddenly changed his mind and forced Emma to marry a useless jerk.
Because of that, Harold left the country in a huff and did not return to this country until today.
Helen had always admired Harold. He was smart, handsome, and had a good family background. Her slacker son—in—law at home who only knew to ask for money was not any match for Harold at all.
Harold walked into the living room and immediately saw Jack.
Harold was extremely angry when he saw his rival.
This was the useless jerk who had ruined Harold's chance to get married with Emma.
Harold had been abroad, but he had also heard of what Jack was like.
He knew Jack never worked. He idled around and asked Emma for money all the time. He was just the most shameless husband in the world.
Such a man was simply not worthy of Emma.
"Jack, you're such a disappointment. If you're still a man, then leave Emma. I'll give you money to live carefreely for the rest of your life."
Harold's eyes were filled with anger. He could not admit defeat to a loser like Jack.
"Mr. Harold, you've wronged me. It's not me that you should blame. I don't want to marry Emma. I married her only because Mr. Paul has begged me to do so. They only give me 5,000 a month. It's not even enough to buy items."
As if he was wronged, Jack pretended to be poor.
However, the more pitiful he tried to look, the more Harold wanted to beat him up. When Harold thought of Emma sleeping in the same room with such a man every night, he felt as disgusted as if he had eaten a fly.
"Leave her, and I'll give you two million. You can't help Emma. She needs a man who can help her company to develop, not a idler who only knows to buy game items."
"Mr. Harold, you know I was talking about game items? Sounds like you're also a gamer!"
"Jack, this is serious!"
Hearing Jack's words, Harold trembled with anger. If it wasn't for the fact that Helen was standing beside him, Harold would have taught the jerk a lesson.
He was a Karate Black Belt, so it was easy for him to deal with a jerk like Jack.
The most excited person among them was Helen. She could tell that Harold still had feelings for Emma. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so angry.
She knew everything about Emma, even including Emma's secrets.
In the past three years, Emma had never let Jack touch her once. The two of them slept separately. While Emma slept in bed, Jack slept on the floor.
"Harold, don't be angry. I agree with you. Anyway, Emma has never slept in the same bed with him. No damage will be done even if they get a divorce."
"Ms. Helen, is that true?" Harold said excitedly.
"Harold, I have watched you grow up since you were a child. Why would I lie to you? As long as you will be nice with Emma, I will always be on your side."
Helen and Harold discussed harmoniously, as if Jack was the outsider here.
"Mom, you're being mean to me. How could you be partial to an outsider? How could you help him persuade your son—in—law to divorce your daughter?"
"Don't call me mom. Did you ever see me as your mom? If you had shown a little bit of self—respect, I wouldn't have had this thought. Look at Harold! He graduated from a famous university, and he has a distinguished family background. What about you? What do you have? You only know to ask Emma for money. You're such a idler."
Helen got even angrier as she spoke, and there was even spray coming out from her mouth.
"Ms. Helen, your have a weak heart. Don't get angry. Since I'm back now, I won't let this guy idle around at home. Leave him to me."
At home.
Jack wondered when this place became Harold's home.
Jack was amused, but he could only give a reluctant smile.
Only Emma's grandfather, Paul, knew Jack's true identity. Jack did not intend to tell Emma about it. He just needed to endured the hardships for a few more years, and he would certainly tell Emma the truth once he completed taking revenge on the Wasserman family of PK City.
Harold was back all of a sudden, and Jack didn't want Harold to make a scene. Jack would lose more than he gained if his whereabouts was exposed.
Perhaps, it was time for Jack to leave the Spence's.
What Helen said was also the truth. He and Emma had no feelings for each other, and they had not even consummated. Even if they were to divorce now, the two of them would not suffer any losses.
There were plenty of chances for him to find another person to depend on. And Harold, the rich but stupid guy, even said that he would give Jack two million in cash.
Just as Jack almost wanted to discuss the terms with Harold, the door was suddenly pushed open. A beautiful girl appeared at the door. It was Emma, Jack's wife in name only.
Emma immediately froze as she saw Harold after entering the room.
She hadn't seen him for three years. She wondered why he suddenly came back.
"Harold, when did you come back?"
Helen was excited as she pulled her daughter inside and pushed her to sit by Harold.
"Emma, what took you so long to come home? Harold came here specifically to see you. He has an important piece of news to tell you."
Emma looked at her mother with a puzzled look, and then she looked at Jack and finally Harold.
"What news?"
Harold took a deep breath and said softly, "Emma, marry me. I know you are not happy now. But now that I'm back, I won't let you suffer a bit from now on."
Emma was lost for words in shock. She was surprised that Harold really proposed to her boldly while Jack was right beside them.
However, she found the whole thing strange. Based on her knowledge of Jack's personality, it was impossible that Jack did not react strongly to this.
"Jack, are you a blockhead? Didn't you hear what Harold said?"
"I heard him, Emma. I fully respect your opinion. If you say yes to him, I will divorce you and never pester you again. I'll go talk to Mr. Paul myself."
Jack's expression was very serious, but he was actually thinking about how to spend the two million.
He was sure that Emma would definitely choose to divorce him.
"Emma, did you hear that? This slacker has agreed. Just say yes, and I will marry you and take you home tomorrow!"
