Luna’s pov
“Run, Luna”
I woke up screaming
My hands flew to my chest as I sat upright in bed, fighting for air, my heart was beating so hard I could hear it in my ears . For a few seconds , I didn’t know where I was . Then my eyes adjusted to the darkness , my bed , the faint glow of the streeetlight coming through my curtains . I was home, but the voice was still in my head . Run
I stared into the darkness someone or something had whispered my name , not in my dream but right beside me .
I slowly turned the empty space beside my bed . Nothing.
My breathing quickened ,then I heard it
Thump, I froze Thump
A heartbeat it wasn’t mine
I held my breath
Thump , Thump.
It was coming from outside my window I didn’t move for seconds,
I simply stared at the curtains
Then something scratched against the glass
Not once but twice I backed away.
“Who is there ?”
No one answered
The stretching stopped
I reached for my phone but before I could turn on the flashlight a low growl came from outside, my blood ran cold .
I slowly walked towards the window
I shouldn’t have, every instinct inside me screamed not to but I pulled the curtain aside anyway.
Blackwood was quiet
Beyond the town stood the forest, dark and endless beneath the moonlight, and there it was a wolf, It stood between the trees , say directly at my window
Its eyes glowed gold .
I couldn’t breathe , the wolf took one slow step forward, then another, I stumbled backward.
And suddenly ,it’s eyes changed not gold anymore but silver.
The same silver as the strange mark that has appeared beneath my collarbone three nights ago.
My heart stopped, the wolf opened its mouth
But Instead of a growl , I heard a voice
Run, Luna .
I screamed and fell backward
The forest became empty nothing moved , nothing made a sound
Then
“Luna?”
I spun around
My mother stood in my doorway . She looked tired but the moment she saw my face , her expression changed
“What happened ?”
There was something outside
She immediately crossed the room and pulled the curtains shut
“What did you see?”
A wolf
Her hands stopped
“A wolf?”
I saw it’s eyes
She stared at me
Then her gaze moved towards the clock
“3:17 am”
Something passed across her face
Fear, not surprised, fear
“ Go back to bed “
“Mom, why are you scared of the forest?”
She looked at me for a long moment .
“ Because some things that live there aren’t meant to be found “
Then she left.
I stayed awake until morning
I didn’t know it then , but the truth had begun long before I was born.
SEVENTEEN YEARS EALIER…
The night Luna vale was born ,the moon turned red. The sky above black-wood became crimson and every wolf in the surrounding forest fell silent.
Inside a small cabin hidden among the trees, Elena vale screamed as she gave birth .
“Push”!!
Elena gripped the sheets then a baby cry filled the room.
The midwife smiled.
“It’s a girl”
Elena reached for her daughter
“My baby”
For one beautiful moment ,everything was peaceful. Then every candle in the room went out
A silver glow appear on the baby’s chest, a crescent shape mark from beneath her skin,
Elena’s face went pale
“No”
Wolves began howling outside
Then came three knocks on the door
bang bang bang
“Elena”
she knew the voice Alpha Darius Blackwood
“Give us the child”. He said
Elena held her daughter tighter.
“She is my daughter”
“You know what she is”
The baby‘s eyes opened silver
Darius’s voice became cold
“She is a Moon Marked”
Elena understood immediately
Her daughter belonged to the bloodline that the packs had feared for generations.
The Moon Born.
She knew what they would do if they took her so Elena ran ,she carried her daughter through a hidden passage beneath the cabin and disappeared into the forest.
Before leaving ,she whispered
“Your name is Luna”
Behind her , the wolves searched the cabin.
They didn’t find a baby.
For seventeen years, Elena successfully hid her daughter from the pack.
But secrets never stay hidden forever .
