Chapter 01: The Job Offer
[cassandra]
I rolled my eyes in the air. God. I couldn"t stand a chance sitting my ass across this bastard. It has been ten minutes since my ass has been on pause here. While he on the other hand was busy talking to his—God knows who they are to his life, but I guess, his fuck buddies.
Yeah. It"s easy to judge him because I"ve known him for the longest time. And God I wish I never see him again. Unfortunately, my wish was rectified. Now, I"m in this lunch meeting with the hottest billionaire in town.
"Okay, bye. See you," the smug smile on his face plastered the moment he caught me swiftly glancing at him. Oh shit. He ended the call and shoved his phone into the pocket of his coat.
I averted my gaze and fixed my pose. By the way, his bodyguards were irritating to see. They are irking me even if they have done nothing.
"Cassandra,"
My body hair rose as soon as he uttered my name. Shit. His deep baritone voice sends octaves in me. He flashed a placid smile at me. But I know too well that beneath it, lies his rotten attitude that only I can witness.
I rolled my eyes ferociously at him for the nth time. I crossed my arms and raised a brow at him. "Do you know I have very important errands to attend to, Aleksander?" I gave off intimidation just so he"d let me go.
A smirk plastered on his face. I knew it. I fucking knew it. "Aside from being jobless for five months and applying to every company that keeps on declining your resume, what else?" he mocked.
Damn this bastard! My cheeks flushed. I cleared my throat. This is not the time to lose confidence, Cassandra. Nor the time to let this dipshit ridicule you in front of his bodyguards. "So? Life is as is—why did you know I"m jobless and in the job hunt?"
Aleksander shrugged his shoulders. "I know a failure when I see one. And I guarantee you, I am looking at one right now," he narrowed his eyes on me.
I scoffed. "Being judgemental and rude is your nature, Aleksander, I know that. But—"
"I made calls and decline all your applications," Aleksander nonchalantly said. He motioned his hand in the air then the waiter comes in immediately and pour his glass the finest bottle of wine.
My jaw almost dropped to the floor. "Are you kidding me?" the corner of my eye twitched. His eyes fell on the red wine glass, swirling and sniffing the wine. Aleksander lifted his gaze on me and drank the wine.
"You bastard," I said through gritted teeth. He chuckled. He intertwined his fingers and looked at me with an amused face. "You still love to curse me, ey?" my eyes rolled at him as he flashed his irking smug smile.
"Five years of being away with you, I had my sobriety and happiness. I thought you had yours too. But things never change, right?"
"Things never changed," he bobbed his head.
I smirked. "You"re still that rotten attitude, Aleksander,"
He scoffed. "Oh, you mean thee famous and hot billionaire Aleksander Cavanaugh? The one being adored and fantasized by women, yeah? That"s me, momma," he winked at me. Aleksander grinned.
There"s no point in arguing when it comes to Aleksander. Five years we"re apart, he"s still the same Aleksander I knew. Yet a tad bit more insensitive, childish, and a jerk. I dangled my sling bag and was ready to stand up when he passed a white folder to me.
My brows crossed as my eyes fell on the folder. As I lifted my gaze on him, he just shrugged his shoulders. "What is this?" I asked.
"A dick," he joked. I heard small chuckles from his bodyguards. Glowering my eyes as I looked at them. "What the hell is so funny about?!" I slightly raised my voice. The less I could care if my voice attracts people. Yeah, I forgot that we are in a luxurious restaurant at lunch. But these rich people are sometimes nosy.
I turned the folder and read what"s inside it.
Aleksander heaved a sigh. "A position. In my company. To be my secretary," he said.
I closed the folder immediately and chuckled. "There"s no way in hell I"d be working under you," flashing a fake smile as I rose. I was about to speak when he butted in.
"I"m not offering you a job, Cassandra,"
My blood boiled every time he calls me by my first name. What is wrong with this man? I raised a brow and crossed my arms, tucking beneath my chest. "Then why are you giving me this folder if you weren"t offering me a job?" I scoffed.
Aleksander rose from sitting and fixed his coat. "You are working for me starting tomorrow," he declared. A line etched on my forehead. "Excuse me? I didn"t sign any papers—"
"You don"t have to," he cut my sentence. "It"s your only option, Cassandra. I have connections from here and there. You know how influential I am. One call and no company will ever hire you... except for mine," he shrugged.
Aleksander yawned. "Take that folder with you and give it to me by tomorrow, seven in the morning with your signature on," he turned his back and walked away from me.
"No! I wouldn't work for you, you jerk! Aleksander!" a vein popped on my neck from yelling. But the billionaire chose to ignore me and walked away along with his minions.
My cheeks flushed as I looked around. People are whispering while looking at me. Oh, great. How fortunate my day was? I hope my sarcasm was noticeable enough.
