“Hmm…”

Amber Quinlan hummed softly and slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was the dizzying glare of the ceiling light and the expanse of white surrounding her.

She tried to sit up but realized her limbs were weak, her body devoid of strength. Her muscles felt as if they were paralyzed, completely numb.

“She’s awake… the patient’s awake!”

The nurse doing the rounds cried out in surprise, rushing off to fetch the doctor and inform the patient’s family.

After completing his examination, the doctor said, “Mrs. Fabel, your body has essentially recovered. Surviving such a major car accident and waking up… truly a miracle.”

“Mrs. Fabel?” Amber’s lips were pale as she struggled to sit up with the nurse’s assistance. Pointing at herself, she asked the doctor, “Are you talking about me?”

The doctor and nurse exchanged glances. Mrs. Fabel was acting like she didn’t know who she was. If that was true, how were they supposed to explain this to Mr. Fabel when he arrived?

“For now, don’t notify Mr. Fabel...”

“Don’t notify me about what?”

Having heard that Amber had regained consciousness, Stellan had rushed to the hospital from a gala dinner.

He was dressed in a black, impeccably tailored bespoke suit, its sharp lines complemented by a dark blue tie. His appearance was formal yet not overly rigid.

Amber curiously observed the man who had just entered her ward.

Although his face wasn’t conventionally handsome, it possessed a unique allure. His deep-set eyes and aquiline nose made her wonder if he might have some foreign ancestry.

She found herself staring, a bit dazed, until she snapped back to her senses and realized Stellan’s gaze was fixed squarely on her. Her heart skipped a beat.

Why would a complete stranger look at her with such an expression?

His gaze was cold, as sharp as a blade, capable of piercing through her. Amber racked her brain, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall who this man was. Then again, she couldn’t even remember who she was.

“Mr. Fabel, since you’re here, we’ll leave you two alone,” the doctor said.

The doctor and nurse exited the room, leaving it so silent that Amber felt a bit uneasy.

“Who are you?” Amber looked at him cautiously and asked, “Do we… know each other?”

Stellan’s gaze swept across her face. That face, once beautiful and cunning, now dared to appear so innocent in front of him. Her acting skills were truly impressive.

“Such a severe car accident, and yet you didn’t die. Your luck is remarkable.”

Amber frowned slightly. The way he said that… it didn’t sound quite right. Weakly, she asked, “Who exactly are you? And… who am I?”

Stellan observed her current demeanor. So innocent, so convincing. If he didn’t know better, if he hadn’t witnessed her dirty, despicable tactics in the past, he might actually believe her.

Since she wanted to play this game, he didn’t mind playing along.

“You… know me, don’t you? Can you tell me who I am?” Amber bit her lip lightly, her head throbbing ever since she had woken up.

Being in an unfamiliar environment, alone in a hospital ward with a stranger, filled her with an unexplainable fear.

Her instincts told her this man was dangerous. But at the moment, he was her only link to figuring out who she was.

Stellan smirked coldly. Fine. He’d play along with her act and see how far she could take it. What new tricks did she have up her sleeve this time?

He stepped forward, sitting down by the bed. His long, slender fingers tilted her chin upward, forcing her to meet his gaze.

Then, he spoke, each word clear and deliberate, “Your name is Amber Quinlan. You are my wife.”

The woman on the hospital bed was stunned. It took her a long moment to recover before she looked at Stellan again and asked, “I’m Amber Quinlan… your wife?”

“That’s right. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take you home now.”

Amber’s mind was filled with doubt. Could a husband be this cold toward his wife, especially after she had survived a car accident?
