Laura.

I felt the cold breeze wash across my face, I was half awake now. Slowly I open my eyes to be sure of my environment and see why it felt so cold but everything came to me in a blur. I lay still for a minute, feeling weak all over even though I wasn't sure why. I felt a cold hand touch my arm but I was too weak to move or do anything.

A man and woman stood over my body, their lips moving and their eyes fixed on me but I couldn't make out the words they were saying. I felt my pulse weaken with each breath I took and within seconds, I feel into a state of unconsciousness.

By the time I came around, I find myself lying on a hospital bed. The hospital smell made my stomach cringe so bad, I had to swallow hard to avoid messing up the place with vomit. I tried to pull myself up but the pain I felt below my waist was excruciating.

"I see you're finally awake. You've been unconscious for a long time now. Thanks to the couple who rushed you here just in time to get treated." A very beautiful lady who looks just like a fairy in a doctor's apparel tells me. She smiled so sweetly at me but I couldn't bear to return the smile due to the pain I was in and the confusion brewing in my head.

"You said I was rushed here by a couple. Where are they? I don't see them" I managed to say in what sounded almost like a whisper.

"Oh! They went home to rest but assured that they'll come check on you first thing in the morning."

She stared at me in a way that said she had something to say but wasn't sure if she could. "What is it doctor?"

"Actually if you don't mind me asking, what happened to you? The clothes you had on had blood stains and semen on them and from your test results, it also shows that you had been raped. Do you recall anything that happened before you were brought here?"

Raped? It felt like my heart had been pierced with a dagger. I couldn't understand what the doctor was saying. The air suddenly felt suffocating, I couldn't breathe. I had to open my mouth to support my breathing which was increasing drastically.

"Miss, miss? Are you okay?" The doctor panicked. I couldn't respond, the shock from the news threw me into a convulsion until I flat lined.

*Four months earlier

"I don't see anything I like here Tommy." I grumbled as I searched through the female clothing section for an outfit. I was shopping for college wears and Tommy, being the supportive friend he is, is here helping me out.

"You don't see what you like or you're just saying that because they're too pricey?" Brutal right? I know but guess what, I'm used to his brutal bluntness already and so I didn't see it as hurtful. Besides he's right, nothing in here fits into my budget, I shouldn't have let him drag me down to the mall in the first place.

I should've stuck with getting my outfits from the cheap clothing stall at the market. That fits my budget best. Although I would admit that the style isn't really college worthy. They're cheap and I'm sure you know what cheap clothing means. Old fashioned and all that.

"Let's just go back to the stall at the market. I know a really good vendor, I can get cheap outfits from. This is way above my..."

"Zzzzzzz....." He shut me up with the buzzing bee sound. "I'm not letting you wear some cheap outfit to school. This is a new semester and you need to spice things up a notch girl."

"I know but..." "Uh, uh, uh, let me finish. Here's what we'll do, you'll go back in there, pick any outfit of your choice and I'll pay for it. Sounds good right?" He asked cheerily.

I glared at him like he had lost it before breaking into a mocking laughter. Don't get me wrong, I know he can afford it but the offer sounded funny to me and I wonder why.

"What's funny? You know I can afford it. I mean look at me, my outfit alone says I can sis." He flattered himself in an annoyingly cute way.

His outfit really showed off his wealth. He had on a pair of Jordans and the rest of his outfit a Louis Vuitton collection except for his wristwatch, it was Gucci. My friend Tommy was the perfect 5'8, nothing like me who couldn't make it past a 5'4. His angular face, so thin and without flesh, his bones could hardly go unnoticed.

I've heard a person's lips has something to do with personality but I never really believed this myth, not until Tommy. His wide lips screamed friendliness, a die hard extrovert alongside the vast cherry air he emits whenever he's around. It compliments perfectly with my introverted self, if I should say so myself.

"Your offer is for a fact very tempting but I'm sorry to say that I won't be taking it. And I still insist we go buy my outfits from the market. Besides none of these clothes here fits my style." I roll my eyes at him with a smirk lining my lips. I guess I was feeling myself too much?

"Style?" He broke out into a big laugh that had tears splurring from his eyes.

"I'm sorry Laura. You know I love you big time but girl, talk about style? Mm, mm. This..." He makes hand gestures at my outfit.

...isn't it" he adds.

I gasp dramatically, like the rich white entitled little brats in movies would when someone tongue lashes at them. "You don't dare look down on my choice of style." I splurt out in a very terrible French accent.

My language impersonations are horrible. The one who's great at it is Tommy and it makes me proud for him that he's good at something I love but can't do.

"Can I have these clothes for $15 instead of $20?" I try to make a bargain with the middle aged woman whom I presume to be the shop owner.

The look she gave me was enough to make me drop dead but I maintained my stance. I wasn't going to let her have her way. Tommy just stood at his corner staring at us, I was sure he wondered why I had to bargain when the price was fair enough, not to me though but him.

Anyways we reach an agreement and I couldn't be more than happy to go get my bags ready for college with these new babies I got for me.

Tommy was gentleman enough to drop me off at my house before going over to his. I've never been to his house before or even seen anyone from his family. I always assumed he had his reasons for keeping that part of him private and I'm not the type to pry into matters that don't concern me.
