Foreword

This novel titled “THE PAUPER”, is the first-ever known to me to be published in prose by this young, promising, and amiable author, Pastor Nwoko, Solomon Ikechukwu. There are many stories on attitudes and ethics in our society today, but none has been so specific and at the same time very elaborate in the area of attitudinal behavior and relationships in our homes and society, and with God our Creator.

An attempt is made to excite interest in the peculiar problems of youths and teenagers in our homes and society at large. It also x-rays some of the ills in our society today and narrates the extent some parents can go in search of children for their joy of parenthood to be complete.

I do not doubt that both the adult readers; the youths and teenagers in particular will find this treasure mine, a very useful tool in character molding, guidance, and attitudinal change in our God-given children.

I strongly recommend this novel to our youths and teenagers; and anyone who likes reading novels. It is straightforward; easy to read and understand, yet at the same time goes into reforming our homes and society to a reasonable extent.

Introduction

The Pauper was written during my SS 1. Though it is my first published work, it was not my first written work. I started my first written work in JSS 3 which is titled “The Wisdom of God”

still to be completed

. The work was left incomplete for some reason I may not explain in this paper. But during my SS 1-2006/2007, I started and completed The Pauper and it was first published in April 2010 during my first year in the higher institution.

Now, this captivating and thrilling story has come out again in a more interesting manner with two additional chapters and a glossary. It has now passed through a series of thorough editing and finishing touches, which made it educative, moral, and entertaining; quality enough to educate people of various levels and fields of life.

It is my earnest desire that this novel

prose

will actualize the aim for which it is written; which is, to educate people, especially the youths and teenagers

children not excluded

on how to make the right choices as to live a good life that will be pleasing to God; a life free from the curse, negative pain, blame, pitiable pessimism and regrettable lugubrious.

Preface

The Pauper is a novel that aims at exposing some of the ugly characters that are seen in most of our homes and schools

mainly universities

today. It is also a book that tells the painful hurdles parents could go through in search of children. It also contains the negligent attitude many show towards God their creator.

For close to a decade in my humble life, I have viewed most of the parents/children relationships, teacher/student relationships, and God/human relationships; from my personal life experience, I decided to make a study. As I took a thorough photographic and analytical study of this, I conceived a message. After considering the best way to convey this message in order to get the proper and careful attention of my readers

mainly youths/teenagers

, I decided to put it down in the form of a story

novel

.

This novel, though fiction, convey's non-fictional truths in our world today and also offers better solutions to it. It is an interesting story that one can’t stop touring until the last page is consumed. It is a story that begins in tragedy but has a happy ending.

Finally, I remain grateful to all my teachers during my secondary school days, at Secondary Technical School Afaraukwu, Umuahia Abia State of Nigeria; mainly my literature teacher-Mrs. Enwere C. N. who exposed me to literature and built my interest in it.

I hope that God through this novel will heal and bring honeous relationships among parents and their children, teachers, and their students, and above all, God and humanity.
