Prologue

SHE took a deep breath for the second time as the car stopped in front of the hotel, checking her phone again she wondered when a message from her husband was going to come in. The door was opened by the footman who smiled as she stepped out, adjusting the feathers at the hem of her skirt she forced a smile at the cameras and walked in.

The party was beautiful as it was a wonderful night. Gabriella Wilde received a standing ovation the moment she walked into a room and her eyes suddenly turned glassed, seeing everyone happy at the final launch of ‘RELLA' beauty, the company she'd poured her heart and soul into making a thing.

She went around serenading her guests, waving and exchanging pleasantries and ignoring the obvious question in the room—Where was her husband?. She overtly avoided her mother-in-law and the rest of the family, not wanting to answer their questions and having to come up with lies as to why he wasn't present at her lunch party.

He was running late. An hour to be exact and she excused herself, peeling through the crowd to outside of the building where she gets out her phone to call her husband. A frown creased her brows as she was being sent to voicemail, she tries again for the second time and was replied with a switched off message.

She cursed under her breath, ‘Damn you Oliver'.

Today was supposed to be a great night, parrying with her friends and family but here her husband was again—being a disappointment for the umpteenth time.

She shut her eyes for a moment, regaining her composure to prepare a feeble as to why her her husband wasn't present to the inquisitive guests. Her narrowed at a black sedan speeding towards her direction all of a sudden and without warning, a gunshot rang out halting the silence of the night.

She screamed at the top of her lungs as it narrowly grazed past her shoulder as she ducked and sought cover behind one of the bushes outside the building. Another shot rang out and this time it hit the window right over her head, police sirens rang all of a sudden and they drove off leaving her shaking.

‘Ma'am!!', One of the cops ran towards her as soon as they pulled up, he stretched his hands to her reach and helped her get to her feet, ‘Ma'am..are you okay?!!'.

She wasn't okay, her lips quivered as her hands felt faint pointing at the empty road with other citizens scampering for safety, ‘S....S...Someone...someone just tried to kill me!'.
