It was on a Tuesday night that her brother was born. It was difficult for her to make ends meet especially now that her father was gone. One couldn't tell whether she's the mother or daughter. She worked hard each day and as she looked on, on receiving her salary, something bad happened, her brother suddenly fell ill and she was having only a thousand naira. He wasn't born in a hospital or clinic he was born at home. He was not responding to the herbal treatment, he was becoming worse and worst. She begged for her salary but her boss refused and told her to wait till twenty eight. It was on fifteen, February, nineteen ninety five. She then recalled her birthday was today. What she received as a present was her brother's illness. Each day she looked at her mother and brother she felt like dying with them.

"Blessing," her mom called her one day.

"Please mom, I'm trying," she said.

"No Blessing, is not about your trying I called you. Please take care of your brother, you all will survive, he will survive. Just take good care of him Blessing," she looked at her and smiled.

It was on the twenty first her mother died leaving only her days old brother. She took for immunizations and he was treated well by the nurses and doctors when she finally got her salary.

Five months passed by and she got the money she needed on time. Her five months old brother was dating well although he didn't what breast milk is. She took good care of him. Made him healthy and did everything she knew her mother would have done.

On the sixth month he began eating and he loved food so well. He began pronouncing things when he was nine. He began by calling mom and she was proud of him.

"Mama Woye," a neighbor teased.

"Ha, mama, ekaaron," she replied.

" Ekaaron my daughter, bawoni?" She asked.

"Lafia ma. Ha mami, I like you a lot o. You know it's from you I learn how to speak," she replied mama.

Mama smiled at her, "where is Woye, my child?"

"He's in, getting stronger everyday," Blessing replied her.

"Ah my daughter, God will bless you according to your works," Mama blessed her.

"Amin," she replied, "I need to go to work. I'll drop Woye with you when I'm through," she added.

"It's no problem my child," she smiled.

"Ekushe ma," she thanked mama and left.

"Ha Blessing, this world is cruel. Lost her father and mother, it is not easy at all."
