At 10 a.m., Eve Mills finished washing up at home when her best friend Isabella called her.
"Eve, I just saw your husband Sonny heading into the Venus Hotel with another woman. You need to get over here ASAP!" Isabella exclaimed frantically.
Eve's eyebrows furrowed. "Wait, you're talking about Sonny Bailey?"
"Yep, that's him. I caught him red-handed at the clubhouse while I was delivering papers to my dad. If I wasn't wearing heels, I would've kicked his sorry butt!" Isabella ranted. "He's nothing but a smooth talker."
Just as Isabella finished speaking, a text with a high-res photo popped up on Eve's phone. In the photo, her husband Sonny was leaning towards a curvaceous and striking woman who looked uncannily like Eve. Her face was obscured, but Eve had a feeling she knew who it was.
Eve couldn't help but squeeze her fingers tightly and let out a bitter laugh.
Her husband had left the country the day after they registered their marriage. Eve had suspected that he might be cheating on her, but the truth was still hard to swallow. Even after a year of separation, she found herself caring for him more than she thought she would.
She thought back to how she met Sonny six years ago when she saved him from drowning. Old Mrs. Bailey then appointed their marriage. But what Eve didn't know was that Sonny had no intention of getting married. He only wanted to repay his rescuer, so she became his wife.
Since then, he never gave her even a formal meeting. Even on the day they registered their marriage, the marriage certificate was collected by the assistants and sent directly to Eve.
Eve had no idea that Sonny was coming back, but she was still his wife. If he wanted to be with someone else, he would have to talk to her first. She deserved an explanation.
Eve hurried to the address Isabella had given her and checked into a room at the front desk of the hotel. As she made her way inside, she caught sight of a man stepping into the elevator while chatting on his phone.
"Sonny's in room 2203? Wait for me! Don't move a muscle!" the man said in a hushed tone, with a wicked smile on his face.
As soon as Eve heard the name, she couldn't help but feel a sense of anxiety wash over her. Was the Sonny that man was referring to just someone with the same name as her husband, or was it actually him in that room?
Trying to remain composed, she took a deep breath and followed them into the elevator as if she were just another stranger. She observed silently as the man escorted a woman into a room and forcefully shut the door behind them.
Worried about Sonny's safety, Eve didn't pay attention to the man and woman and headed straight to room 2203. The door was unlocked, and she saw two red candles burning, casting flickering shadows on the walls. A tall figure was lying on the large red sheets.
As she approached, she realized that it was Sonny.
