Life in the Bratva was known to be a dangerous affair. Rosaline's existence had always been hidden from the family. The reason, she was the product of an affair and her father, Alexsei, was the previous underboss of Igor Egochenkov. He was already married when he met her mother. He had a son, Maksim, the current underboss of the Egochenkov Family. His wife was the daughter of a politician, it kept them safe from the police, it was a marriage of convenience. If he asked for a divorce, it could end badly for the family. Furthermore, in the Egochenkov family, loyalty to one's spouse is necessary, the common belief is that if one isn't loyal to his own spouse, that meant that you could double cross the code. Therefore, Rosaline and her mother were kept in a house in Sviyazhsk while the headquarters of the family was found in Moscow. Her mother Irina Veskev, came from a modest background. She was working as a waitress in a small café when she met Alexsei thinking that he was her prince charming. At that time she didn't know that her Prince Charming was an underboss and already married at that. She was already pregnant when she learnt the truth. She had convinced herself, that her child was innocent in the matter and she had not been able to muster enough courage to go to the abortion center and end the life of the poor being. She knew that her daughter would be a liability for the Egochenkov's and they would not let her child nor her live through it so she had her name changed and she continued her studies which she paid by selling her parent's home. Her efforts paid off as she got a degree in business marketing and found a job in a corporate. She kept in contact with Alexsei for security purposes and to give him the opportunity to be in his daughter's life. He came to visit them once every month bringing food and money, to clear his guilty conscience her mother had once told her. Rosaline had being homeschooled till she reached her 18 as per her dad's request. He feared that by going to a public school, people would talk or she would trust the wrong people who for a sum of money could get them all killed.
Rosaline was now 24 and she had just finished university. Living in constant fear of being found she had asked her mother if she could attend a foreign university. To her great relief her mother had agreed. Her mother took a loan so as to finance her education. She attended the University of Leeds, and she worked in a local subway to be able to help her parents in financing the cost. She got a sub on the days that she was on shift so that helped greatly in the food department. However, she had to return to Russia after her studies due to the fact that her mother had loss her job due to the company been bankrupt.
She had already sent her curriculum vitae to many companies and had received a confirmation more so after she was sure her dad had gotten involved in the matter. She was sure that one couldn't land a job without experience and without going for an interview at that. She was grateful though as she had learned that someone fresh out of university could wait up to one year to get a job interview.
It was her first day on the job, she was the new accountant at Protek. Her first day consisted of getting an induction training, meeting her colleagues, she had been allotted a fellow colleague to ask for help, who did not seem too pleased with the request and finally after going through a light workload for her first day, she clock out at 17.
She drove back home after going grocery shopping. Her dad was coming tonight, so her mother was preparing his favorite dishes; pelmeni and blini as dessert. She reached home at 18. And helped her mother to prepare the food. Everything was ready at 19 just when her dad reached home. She rushed to the door just like she used to when she was little.
She welcomed her dad with a hug and a kiss. She noticed blood on his shirt and she knew that questions were not allowed so she refrained herself from asking the question that was on the tip of her tongue.
Dinner was pleasant with her dad asking her about how her job went, if she needed money and even though she had said no he had given her 20000 rubles for groceries. And an additional 7000 for a dress. She didn't understand how her father could give them so much without his family knowing. But she was still pleased. The money could be used till her paycheck while her mother found a job.
The conversation took a turn though. Alexsei warned them that Vladimir, the son of Igor was now the boss and he had his team investigating the whole organization. A soldier had ratted them out but his wife had it covered. But after this mishap, Vladimir wanted to make sure that the slight possibility of one of the members ratting him out was not even possible.
It was only then that her father admitted the truth, he had stole a lot of money from the organization, to finance her education and to pay for the gifts that he had given her. By the look of it, even her mother had been left out of the loop. Her mother went into a trance and grab the vase and threw it at her dad shouting profanities. Rosaline knew she was in serious problem now, if they discovered what her dad did they would want to know the reason and this would lead to them finding her.
Her mother had missed her dad by a few centimeters only and the vase shattered against the wall the chips falling everywhere and one projectile even scratch her dad who had fallen down while trying to avoid being hit. Her mother fell down in a heap tears flowing down her face. They all knew that their future was predictable, either death or sold to the highest bidder for the women. The Egochenkov's were pitiless and Irena feared for her daughter's life, Vladimir should get married soon and her daughter would be a potential wife, she was a beauty with her svelte figure, light brown hair and blue eyes, she had brain and beauty, a perfect combination.
She heard cars on the gravel outside. She rushed her daughter to the hiding room which was actually found under the house and ordered her to stay put and not to make a single sound. She hid the pictures of her daughter under the pillows and went to join Alexsei in the living room. The men kicked down her door. And they shot Alexsei once in the foot. She rushed to help him stand up but one of the man held her by her neck with a gun to her head. They chained Alexsei to the table and someone brought pliers to the room. They cut his fingers one after the other but Alexsei still refused to admit that he had stolen the money. As a result they stabbed Irina in the womb and her cries were echoing in the whole house to the ears of her daughter. The latter was crying silently muffling her cries with her fist in her mouth biting hard till drawing blood. When Alexsei still refused to tell the truth, Vladimir ordered one man to beat Irina until Alexsei would tell the truth, he already knew that Alexsei was guilty he only wanted him to answer before shooting him. It took 5 punches to her face for Alexsei to beg them to stop torturing her and admitting the truth. Irina's face was beaten to a pulp and she was moaning in pain. Vladimir then shot Alexsei in the head. He then sent someone to search through the house. Rosaline heard someone enter the room and she prayed that he wouldn't walk on this side as she was sure that he would hear the hollow sound. Drawers, wardrobe, cupboards and even her bookshelf were ransacked. And then she heard him searching through the bedding till he discovered her photo. He heard rushed voices in the other room, and heard them asking her mother about the photograph, when the latter refused to answer they search through the whole house once again and to Rosaline's great despair they were 2 men now. They were moving every furniture in the room searching most preferably for a secret room but the one in which Rosaline was had sliding doors and it was open on the wall with fingerprint. So it was impossible for them to open the door or so she thought. The man were now walking all over the room searching for a trap door and Rosaline squinting her eyes and looking through the space in between the floorboards saw that a man had discovered the fingerprint scanner hidden behind a painting. Her mother was brought to the room and her fingerprint was scanned. To Rosaline's great despair the door slided open.....
