I was in a dark empty hall, it was so cold and there was water everywhere, why was I here? Why was I alone? I looked closely and to my surprise, it was my school, Pinehurst academy. What was I doing here at night? it was weird, it seemed like the person only put on one high heel shoe. I didn't know what to say or do, but I had to run.
I ran as fast as I could, and the noise got louder and louder, it was like it was close to me but I couldn't really see it. I looked back while running and I missed a step which caused me to fall to the ground. I turned to see if that person was close to me, but the sound had stopped. I got up from the ground in relief and dusted my blue jeans.
I heard the noise again, I looked to see if the person was finally close to me, then I saw a leg hiding behind a wall, she finally revealed herself, she was hideous, her hair was dirty and she had worms crawl on her body, I turned to run but shockingly it was a dead end. How was this possible? Where did this wall come from? And why was it close to me? I turned slowly in fright, I was scared I was going to die. I was finally going to feel what death felt like.
The disfigured lady smiled at me, she smiled like she meant no harm, I smiled too, I guess I was overreacting, all of a sudden. The woman ran towards me with her mouth wide open like that of venom. I screamed and then I woke up.
It was just a nightmare, I breathed heavily like I ran a marathon race, I took my phone from the small table, it was 6:20 am, I had to get ready, or else I was going to be late to my new school.
I got up from the bed, my hands were still shaking, what a terrible nightmare, it felt so real. But it was just a dream. Maybe a cool shower would help? I told myself.
After a nice shower, I got out of the bathroom feeling great about myself, I had forgotten about the bad dream I had earlier, then I jumped in fright when I saw my mom admiring my new uniform.
"Mom! You startled me." I told her.
"Sorry dear, I just wanted to see your new uniform, its gonna look great on you, I'm so happy you got a scholarship to one of the biggest and brightest schools in Lagos."
"You've said this a lot of times mommy," I said to her and I chuckled moving towards my dresser.
"Yes I know, but I'm so excited, isn't it exciting?" She said, and I turned to look at her.
"Mom, I'm the one going to Pinehurst academy, not you," I said.
"I know, but shouldn't I be excited for my daughter?"
"Yes, you can. But I really need to get ready for school."
"Yes, you're right, I'll leave you to it."
"Thank you." My mom left the room and I shook my head laughing at my embarrassing but loving mom. It had just been the both of us, my dad died when I was eight years old, car accident was what I was told. I wasn't sure how cause I knew my dad was a good driver it all seemed so weird to me, he was the one that taught me to drive. Mysterious things happen for mysterious reasons. That was what my grandma always told me, and I didn't know what it meant until my dad died, I didn't know how he died and I didn't know why he died.
I had an elder sister, but she was killed by homophobic Nigerians who didn't think a girl should kiss another girl.
My sister wasn't gay, she had a boyfriend, but then her best friend Lola was, and she kissed my sister Agatha, they didn't ask questions they just took both of them and killed them like we were in the seventh century. Of course, those people were caught and arrested, but my mom wasn't satisfied, apparently, it wasn't going to bring her back.
I was thirteen at the time it happened, so I was really confused, I personally had nothing against the LGBTQ community, cause I didn't understand the reason to hate someone because of who they slept with.
Anyway, I decided to leave the past in the past, I was in Lagos now, I was going to the best schools in lekki, thanks to my writing skills. I wrote an amazing essay back at my old school in Abuja then BAM! I was asked to go to Pinehurst academy. I was actually confused and surprised at the same time. I was finally going to do my senior secondary here in Lagos.
My uniform fit me perfectly, white shirt with long sleeves, and a dark skirt that's actually above my knee, if I wore the skirt to a Mountain of fire church, they'd tell me I was going to hell if I didn't pick a skirt that was down to my toes. Well news flash, their not God so they didn't have a right to say trash.
I did my hair into a ponytail, my hair was in braids, loved braids, braids were a Nigerian woman's best friend. Without it, I'd go mad.
I picked up my dark blazer and put it on, still looking at myself in the mirror, then I walked out of my room with my backpack hanging on one side of my shoulder.
It was 7:10 am, I had finished at a perfect time, my mom had made scrambled eggs, and bacon. My favorite.
I went to the kitchen to eat, it smelled really good, my mom had just finished washing a silver plate, then she turned and when she saw me, she began to act like I wore a wedding dress instead of a uniform.
Besides being a great cook my mom was a life saver, she was a medical doctor Torida medical center. For some reason, the married couple that owned the hospital decided to merge their names together to form a name for it, how weird. Anyway, my mom can be embarrassing but fun.
"Awww, you look so adorable Abby." She said. I rolled my eyes and I smiled at her
"Thanks, Mom."
My mom just looked at me she was happy that I was going to a fancy school, I was her only child now so I guess that was why she couldn't stop acting all excited.
I was ready for school, my mom and I got into her black Toyota Camry, I sat on the passenger's seat as usual. I was a little bit nervous, I was finally going to Pinehurst academy.
