"Evangeline, why didn't you tell me that you've come back from abroad? Your brother-in-law and I are waiting for you at home!"
In the cafe, Evangeline Jones held her phone tightly. After three years, she still could not face the woman who had taken away the man she loved most.
It was her sister, Rosalie Jones.
Three years ago, when she left, she swore that she would never come back. She had been away for the past three years. If it weren't for her grandfather's 70th birthday, she wouldn't want to set foot in this familiar but painful place.
On the phone, she could still hear Rosalie asking in a concerned manner, "David said he missed you at the airport. Where are you? Are you all right?"
"Don't worry, I'm fine." Evangeline looked out of the window and said dryly, "I'm in the coffee shop next to the airport."
"Then please wait there. I'll send David there."
"Okay."
Evangeline was lost in her thoughts when she hung up.
Three years had passed, and her sister still cared about her like before as if that incident had never happened.
But she still couldn't accept that the man she loved the most had become her brother-in-law.
She finished the coffee and its bitterness lingered in her mouth.
She got up and walked out. As soon as she turned the corner, she bumped into a tall figure. It was a tall and slender man with a sturdy chest. Evangeline felt slightly sore in her nose when she bumped into him, and her eyes quickly became watery.
She stepped back, covered her nose, and apologized. "Sorry, I didn't mean to..."
When she looked up and saw the man's face, she was stunned.
He was very handsome. He had sharp eyebrows, an aquiline nose, and a pair of deep eyes. He looked cold and noble, and he commanded reverence, which often left people in awe.
Evangeline was stunned.
However, the man raised his eyebrows unhappily as his cold gaze became even more intense.
"Excuse me! You smudged Mr. Ollie's shirt!" The man who looked like his assistant said anxiously, "He has to attend a meeting very soon. What should we do?"
Evangeline came to her senses and looked at the man's shirt.
There was a particularly eye-catching lipstick stain on his white shirt.
"Sorry! I will get you a replacement!" Evangeline said as she took a closer look at the material of his shirt.
It was obviously one of the most famous luxury brands from Cheoca. Its main selling point was all their shirts were bespoke. Not only was it an expensive shirt, but more importantly, it would take a lot of time and effort to have the shirt made.
Therefore, the shirt was also a symbol of the man's status.
Although she could afford to replace the shirt, she had obviously offended the man. Right now, he was staring at her coldly and his black eyes seemed to be filled with displeasure and aloofness.
"How about this, I'll leave you my number. Please contact me anytime when you're done with the meeting so we can resolve this issue."
As there was no pen available, she took out her lipstick and quickly wrote down her phone number on a napkin.
After she was done, she looked up at Ollie. Her clear eyes shone with sincerity. Her nose was slightly red and her eyes were moist.
Ollie Steele stared at her for a short while and took the napkin from her hand.
The assistant next to him was so shocked that his jaw dropped.
Evangeline didn't notice his assistant's expression. With a joyful gaze, she said, "Thank you! You can contact me any time!"
She then politely continued, "I apologize for the inconvenience." Having said that, Evangeline turned around and left.
The assistant looked at Evangeline and then turned to look at Ollie's face. With a hand on his chin, he seemed to be thinking about something.
"Let's go." Ollie continued walking forward.
As soon as the assistant caught up with him and was about to ask if he was interested in the woman just now, he saw Ollie throw the napkin on the ground after crumpling it into a ball.
The assistant was speechless.
Well then, he would take it as Ollie had not given the woman any thoughts at all. It could be that he couldn't be bothered with her.
But...
When he remembered the scene when the two of them looked at each other just now, the assistant could feel his heart beat faster.
He quietly picked up the crumpled napkin, stuffed it into his pocket, and followed closely behind Ollie.
...
Other than the coffee shop, Evangeline saw the Jones family car at a glance. She got in the car, greeted David, and then leaned against the back seat with her eyes closed to rest.
David drove for about half an hour before stopping the car.
"Miss Evangeline, we've arrived," David spoke gently.
Evangeline slowly opened her eyes and looked out the window. She was stunned and her heart tightened.
She clenched her fists and asked, "Why are we at the Fraser family residence?"
She used to visit this place frequently. This was where she and Steven grew up together and the place where they fell in love. She regarded this place as her second home as she had assumed that she would marry him and live here.
But...
Now it had become Steven and Roselia's home instead.
"Miss Roselia said that she missed you very much. So she would like you to stay with them for a while," David said respectfully.
Evangeline pursed her lips, took a deep breath, and got out of the car.
There were already people waiting for her at the main entrance. When Evangeline saw the two familiar figures, she instantly held her breath.
It was Rosalie and Steven.
