Throughout history, we compiled a life's worth of Legends and Myths about monsters and things that lurks in the dark. We could never enumerate them, but we could name a few known ones that we sometimes hear from the mouths of our elders or the current media. We even romanticized them and we humans have grown to love such creatures in the most taboo of ways.
One of the popular evil beings usually seen in the current visual reading media which consists of novels, manhuas, manwhas, and Mangas would be the evildoer LICH.
THE LICH, an undead magician or a king who used spells and rituals to attain eternal life and in doing so, looses their humanity since they went against the causality of things. The Lich takes the life of any living things it could get its grubby hands on. Then, uses the dead to create more chaos using necromancy.
In every game, the Linch dies in the hands of the hero's party and there was also no account of any good Lich in any book or games.
"Tch. I hate them really."
From a distance a woman with long brown hair and a pretty red bow head band on her head sneered. She and a man with neat and slick black hair sat in front of an internet café drinking mocha latte. He tilted his head to look at the place just across the street from under his tinted sunglasses. Seeing the teenagers, he snorts a laugh.
"You laughing?! You son of a b*tch."
"Because you're so petty. They're just a bunch of teenagers enjoying an mmorpg."
The teenagers on the other side of the road continued to cheer.
"Support! Support! The Lich is killing my mage!"
"Support the mage! Where the hell is our tanker?!"
"I'm accompanying the mage but undead keeps on getting on my way!"
"Kill that son of a hoe! If we manage to kill the Lich then we can get to the next level."
"Tch."
Seeing the sneer of the woman, the man offered her some of his muffin. The woman naturally took the muffin and looked at it.
"Baby, do you remember back when you were so adamant to kill me too?"
The man looked up from whatever he was doing in his laptop and stared at the woman. Their eyes met, and the flashes of the past seem to reappear again.
Many years ago.
"Help! Help-"
It was sudden. The blade that pierced the hysterical woman didn't even have blood on it when it was pulled out. She tumbled down dead, and her soul was sucked out while her body was dragged away by something evil. It had great big claws and boney stature. Shrouded in a cloak of darkness, this was the Ancient Evil, the Lich.
"God where is it?"
"Stay close. It's too dark in here and our torches can only last for five more days. We need to conserve it."
In a damp and dark cave, a group of soldiers and shamans travelled alongside each other. They were at least 200 when they entered and now they were down to 20 people. It was all because of the monster that roamed this place.
The Lich.
" Sh, did you hear that?"
The captain raised his hands as a sign to stop and stay silent. The deafening silence seemed endless, and it gave them the illusion that something is toying with them.
"I don't think it's here, captain."
One of the soldiers said. The shaman party, who came from a nearby tribe and was commissioned to help the knights all knew that the Lich works silently.
So they never placed their guard down.
But even so, they were not a match for something so powerful.
The sound of something traveling on the air and the stab on five of the remaining 20 happened so fast they were not fast enough to react.
"Ahhhh...!"
Their souls got sucked out and something harshly dragged away the bodies.
Something unseen.
Then out came the undead.
"Run!"
They were no match to the undead with all their gears and bodies worn out. They can only do a hasty retreat.
"This way! This way!"
Each and everyone of them slid through a gap on the wall and got away just in time for the undead to try and squeeze through.
Although they were stuck in there right now, it wouldn't be long till they catch up.
For now, they needed somewhere to hide.
They found solace in a hollowed out part of the cave hich rsembld a cubby hole. Luckily, all fifteen of them could fit inside. Although cramped, it as better than nothing.
The thought of dying made the morale of the survivors to drop. They were hungry, afraid and also running low on stamina and torch oil.
They were going to die at this rate.
The shamans started to pray in a corner, calling to the souls of their Gods and ancestors. The remaining soldiers sat there with dull eyes, and seemed to have resigned to their fate.
The captain however , did not loose hope. He pulled out a token from his pocket and prayed to have their souls saved. Although it was truly impossible for some type of miracle to happen, it was better to hope than do nothing.
'I still want to see my wife and daughters. Oh Cecil, Anise and Freja. Father might not be able to Come home.'
The Lich had a huge feast these few days. It has been a long time since it ate a lot of souls in the span of three days without even much effort.
"Humans. Such gullible creatures encased inside fragile shells."
The Lich loves to torment humans. But it loves snapping their limbs before killing them more.
Really the personification of evil.
Well, it as the only fun she could have for years and years of living. Lichs cannot integrate back to society. It is evident on their nature of unstoppable greed for life and power that they were not fit to be in the society. The people also seek to end them.
Although immortal, the Lich can be killed if you found its dark heart. The heart will not be in the chest. Sometimes it is somewhere important to the Lich and other times it would be the source of power for the Lich so they place it near them like in ornaments and wands.
"Come out Come out wherever you are~"
The Lich towered over normal people in about eight feet tall, shrouded in a dark cloak of evil aura and sometimes adorned themselves of the skeletons or eyes of their victims.
The Lich swept the entire cave for the remaining human, but could not just find them.
"Hm, something is not right."
It owned this cave, surely it could feel the heartbeats and breaths of these humans which is filled with so much life.
"Who is interfering with my hunt? Do you think you could stop me from finding them?"
The Lich spreads it's aura and covers the cave with its skeleton minions. From the ground cam forth skeletal soldiers of doom. Both dead nimals and dead men rose by the commandments of the Lich.
From their hiding spot, the group could feel the ground shak and out of knowhere a skeletal best came out to gobbl thm. Blood spluttered in th walls and the ground of that small crevice. One by one those who could not leave the hole was killed and absorbed to become nutrition. Those who were able to jump out of the hole watched in horror as the whole farce happened right in front of them. No one was standing, everyone felt their knees go weak.
The Captain and the three remaining survivors were covered in the blood of their comrades, watched the creature in horror.
"Ah!"
One of them stumbles towards the center as an army of skeletal remains of mixed humans and animals encircled them with swords and axes in their hands at most.
The remaining survivors movd in the middle, and seemed to have lost all hope.
"We... are done for..."
The Captain gripped the token with tears in his eyes.
God, is this the end?
From the darkness they saw the Lich come out. Its eyes were a pair of burning gold balls and from its skeletal mouth were everlasting golden fire.
It carried a long scepter with a ram's head on top of it.
"You made it so hard for me to find you. Hide and seek today as quite tiring eh?"
"You are sick!"
The captain felt fury. This being sees them not as a living and breathing species which also feels pain and happiness but sees them as ready to slaughter animals who had no right to refuse.
"One amusing human. I was also human before, so I understand the desperation for survival. I also understand the false sense of security that Token in your hands gives."
His expression of anger towards the Lich morphs into anger towards himself because he knew the Lich was right.
The Lich smiled in triumph. It could not be discerned since skeletons do not smile.
" But I still believe in God! "
The Lich was silent for a moment before it laughed along thousand voices of dead people. The man and his remaining companions felt so little ND ws bout to resign to their tes once again s the Linch reached out to ttack when from the skies came a great light.
"Argh! Who dres to interrupt me?!"
When the blinding light subsided, there stood a winged man. He was made out of light, he was naked and had a halo which looked like torns. He did not have any discerning facial features and one cannot even stare at him since he was shining bright.
" Lich, you are going overboard."
"Who the hell re you?"
The Lich and the man stood there face to face, attacking each other with their auras. The Lich let out the loud 'TCH' and raised its boney hands and the army of bones jumped to attack. The survivors whimphered, ready to be shredded in pieces.
But the man flapped his wings once and the skeletons broke into pieces and then into dust.
The Lich figured out that the opponent was a strong being which she had never encountered before.
"This is exciting!"
The Lich laughed and gathered souls into its boney hands.
"How about this?"
The souls became a spherical ball of compressed death energy. The newly arrived man seemed offended by this as he pointed his finger at the Lich and gathered pure light energy.
The captain watched in amazement and fear, hoping to get out of this alive.
"Human, fear not. You will live."
The Captain looked up in surprise, and tears of joy flowed from his eyes.
'God, is this a saviour you sent for us? '
The Lich and the man fired at eachother. The humans braced themselves only to find out that they were unharmed and was well protected behind ten great wings.
It was majestic and awespiring, filling them with worship for the one above.
"God has not abandoned us!"
The Lich grinded its teeth together and disappeared into the darkness.
This is how the rivalry between a Lich and the Holy Sovereign of the Court of Angels began.
When there is trouble with this certain Lich identified as a Ashera Yulius, the greatest Queen of the lost Arcmage nation. As for why it was called the Archmage Nation rather than Magic Nation is because of its line of rulers who had the gift of making its citizen advance to an arch mage at a certain age.
No one dared to offend this nation and very one thought they would live forever. Hoever, the greed of the next generation killed off the whole race as years passed.
The last Ruler was Queen Ashera the Great.
She was also this the reason for the complete end of their race.
it is said that because of her greed, she wanted to become immortal and live forever so she became a Lich by sacrificing her whole nation and locking away her heart somewhere no one could find.
Sh was not only deemed evil, she was deemed a traitor who is vile and should never be forgiven.
Mothers would use her to scare the children to sleep, others would blame her for any type of misfortune.
Anything that died will be deemed as somebody the Lich of Somal Cave has taken.
"But when are these humans going to stop blaming me for the fault of the grim reapr? I've been a good girl for many Aeons now!"
But who would Har her complains from under the hidden cave?
"So the Lich is now in eternal slumber, waiting to be awakened once again!"
"Ah! Sheila stop spooking the eff out of me!"
Sheila grinned and made horrible faces. The girl who obviously had her hair dyed blonde stood up to get away from her.
Sheila and the others laughed, and the blonde stomped away back into the tent in the distance in anger.
" She is such a scaredy cat. It's not even real!"
"Oh let her be. She'll bounce back."
They were gathered around the bonfire. The group of college friends laughed and told more creepy stories, while the blonde girl layed inside her tent, playing games in her phone.
"Tsk.Stupid games."
She threw her phone down to the side and felt like she wanted to pee.
But she was afraid to do so.
She bit her lip a moment later and decided to go out to pee in the bushes.
As she was about to pee, somebody tackled her down and when she tried to scream, that person covered her mouth. She couldn't make out their face in the darkness but she at least knew it was alive since she could feel body temperature.
She tried to fight back, but the person began choking him. It was a man, she was sure of it!
"Auck! Kak..! Sto... Ah!"
She thought her life was about to end.
She looked up, and saw golden balls above them. At first she thought it was a hallucination, but then it grew closer and she saw something more horrifying than the man choking her.
She slapped the hands of the psychopath who was now laughing at her demise, trying to warn him.
The thing opened its mouth and illuminated the dark are. She could no see the man choking her,.
'B-Brother?! But why?!'
But that was not the pressing matter right now.
"Ack! Ack!"
The evil in her brother's eyes were not as evil as the eyes of the big unknown creature behind her brother hunch over looking at them.
She watched with blurry vision the thing raise its boney hand and grip her brother's head.
He was not able to scream and she watched as he dangled in th hand of that creature who laughed in glee.
"Humans are really something else. Their is already more evil creatures out here ready to kill you, but you choose to kill eachother. In normal occasions I would eat your soul, but disrespecting a lady like this is something even as a Lich wouldn't recommend. "
Her brother mad a wheeze before convulsing. Th blonde girl could not take it anymore and passed out. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head, and she frotted on the mouth.
This leaves the Lich alone and speechless.
She dropped the limp male into the ground enough not to kill him and sighed.
"How fragile humans are!"
Ashera picked up the limp woman and sighed.
Hey, it's another day for the Lady Lich's Service.
Carefully placing the girl into thir resting place, Ashera left once again and went back to her cave under this mountain.
"Ahhhhhh I am bored again."
A month ago, the Lich Ashera realized that her life had no more colour. For a Lich who feel nothing, this was something unexpected.
She guessed her heart must have been found by something, but then she checkd it with her power
It was still there.
It took her at least a week to find out that she was just feeling blue since the number of humans she had killed as enough to live forever already. She did not lack the power she took from animals and the nature so it was not the problem. She just wanted to do something else.
It was gnawing at her, and she had to do something.
So she gathered herself and went out into the world again.
The world has changed so much in a span of many years. To a Lich, time and years does not really matter since they're immortal. Humans advanced in both religion and the thing called science which to me seemed to be something that had been taken out o the Alchemy methods of the Olden times.
Ashera didn't really go out much since that son of a b*tch Lumbinos always makes it a huge deal when she harvest souls of dirty humans. That man who governs The GREAT ANGELS humans had so much reliance on makes it his duty to make her miserable. Humans call creatures like her as monsters while these two faced catfish angels who hides their real image behind a beautiful light is called holy and revered all over the world.
