It was amazing how at his age Leukas was sill expected to perform titrations. He had thought it was a thing of the past, that he’d left that part of Chemistry in high school, but no, he was spending a whole week listening to lectures about the process and doing the experiments. It didn't help that he wasn't exactly fond of the process. His phone vibrating was the best thing to happen that day, especially when he saw that it was his girlfriend, Ashley. He quickly left his station after nodding to his partner and headed to the bathroom to get the call.
“Hey baby. I…” he began but cut himself off when he heard a pained moan.
“Leukas..baby….Lanae. She’s trying to kill me.” Her breathing was hash and her voice was hurried, almost hysterical.
“What? Where are you? What do you mean Lanae is trying to kill you.” Leukas asked, his voice panicked.
“Your life is in danger Leukas. I found out that she works for a Russian Assassin Agency. She was planted to hurt you Leukas. She's been pretending to be your friend all along.”
Leukas shook his head even though no one could see him. “No… you must be wrong. Lane would never..”
“I left all the evidence on your desk at home. She knew somehow that I found out and she's after me. I'm dying babe…”her voice breaks at the end.
Leukas' head spins. He had no idea what was going on at all.
“Tell me where you are. This is all a misunderstanding. I'll come get you and take you to the….” His words are frantic and come out in a frenzy.
“It's too late for me baby. All I care about is you. I want you to know who she is before I die. She stabbed me. In the chest. She drove us out of the city from the library. She forced me into the car and took me to an abandoned house. I only managed to run upstairs but I have nowhere to run. I'm barely hanging on as it is Leuk….I love you so much….” Her voice fades away as banging sounds sound from her phone. A piercing scream comes from the other side of the phone and Leukas' blood freezes.
“ Ashley?...Answer me baby! Ashley!” Leukas screams into the phone. A voice that sounds too familiar says something in Russian before the phone is turned off.
