Anna.
“I think Jeremy is cheating on me.” I burned out as I took another gulp from my coffee.
My friend, Bella gasped loudly beside me and even with the loud music playing in the background I could hear it.
“You don’t say? How do you know that?” She questioned, I dropped the cup of coffee and then looked at her.
I shrugged, “I don’t know but I have this hunch that he’s cheating on me and you know me. My hunches don’t lie.” I took another sip.
Jeremy and I have been dating for three years now and I haven’t been more than happy. He was everything a lady would ever dream of in a man. He was kind, sweet, and loving.
When we started dating three years back, he was sweet and loving, always texting before anyone else in the morning and late at night before I go to bed. But now, he hardly ever text or call and whenever I took the bull by the grin to call him he was always busy.
We do not have those fun nights we always do every Friday evening, the dates we go to once in a month was also canceled. That made me doubt more, he was definitely cheating on me and there was nothing to say about it.
“I don’t think you should trust you hunch in this Anna. This is a relationship and not one of your instincts.” Bella argued but I shook my head.
I know what I was talking about, I have known Jeremy for years now and she, just a year or two I think. Jeremy isn’t that always happy to see me, it was like I was a problem to him instead of his happiness.
“I know what I’m talking about Bella. Okay if you say I shouldn’t trust my instincts, then please explain this to me; how is it that he’s always busy when I calls or anytime I offer to go over to his place?” I asked with a sad smile on my face.
I know what she was trying to do, she was trying to make me not feel bad but the truth was that I was feeling worse.
I haven’t felt this sad in years but Jeremy was making me sad.
“Hey listen Anna,” she held my hand from across the table.
“Jeremy isn’t cheating on you and you should know that. He loves you Anna, jezz and you should know that. He wouldn’t look at another woman twice if you’re in the same room with him, he’s your and will always be yours.” I let out a loud sigh.
Honestly I was tired and haven’t been sleeping well for the last couple of days now.
I think I should go with her word. Jeremy loves me and no one else.
“You are right Bella, I shouldn’t think about this anymore.” She beamed and nodded her head vigorously.
“Now tell me about your job interview.” This Ike I smile widely at her question.
This was the best part of today and I was so excited with the notification that I had focal Bella out.
“Yes, I applied for the interview and didn’t believe I would get called but days later I received an email that the interview would be held today at 2pm.” I boldly said then picked my phone on the table.
Shit! It was 1:30pm I have to leave now.
“That great Anna, I know you will get this job.” I nods also praying I do.
I needs this job badly and if I’m able to get it everything will go smoothly for myself and my family.
“I have to leave now Bella, it’s almost time for the interview and I don’t want to be late.” I said already standing up to pick my things.
“Alright, call me once you’re done.”
“I will.” I rushed out of the coffee shop almost bumping into a man that was walking in.
“Taxi.” I flagged down a taxi, since I was late I had to take this one even though it was more expensive than normal bus.
“Take me this address please.” I handed the little pamphlet to the driver.
….
“Thank you.” I stepped out from the car after paying the driver. I rushed into the company’s building feeling lightheaded.
I walked up to the lady at the desk, “Hi! I’m here for the job interview.” The company was enormous both inside and outside and I felt giddy knowing I would likely starts working here one day.
The lady brought her head from the computer and plastered a smile on her face.
“Okay…, can I get your name?” She asked politely.
“Annalise Adler.” I told her my name and watch as she wrote it down on a clipboard and then took up her telephone that was lying on her desk and made a call. The receptionist after a few minutes hang up before turning to me.
“Can you hold on for a few minutes miss Adler?” She asked and I nodded my head.
I mean why not, I can even wait the whole day if it means getting this job.
I stood there watching her do her job she was doing earlier before I approached, I decided to look around the building as I waited.
The building was very spacious and formally decorated. It indeed looked like a rich place as you can tell the decorations looked expensive and most of them might be imported.
Ping!
The elevator beside the receptionist table opens and a man walked out of it and towards the table.
He was quite young and looked handsome, I couldn’t help but wonder if someone as young as him was working here.
“This is miss Adler.” Theo lady introduced me t the man now standing in front of us.
“Welcome to Ashford’s Ms. Adler, I’m Noah.” He welcomed me then politely introduced himself to me and I gladly took his hand for a handshake.
“Mr Noah here will he taking you to the top floor where the interview will be held.” The lady said and I nodded.
“This way Ms. Adler.” I walked behind him and we entered the same elevator he walked out from.
I watched as he pressed the button for the top floor, and the place fell into deep silence after that.
Nothing could be heard in the elevator except my hard breathing and my heart that was beating fast. As much as I tried to calm myself down I couldn’t, I was more than scared with a million thoughts running through my head.
What if I don’t get this job?
What was I going to do? I was I going to go back home and face my family?
Oh god, please help me!
I really need this job!
“Nervous?” The man standing next to me asked breaking the silence.
“Y..yes.” I answered his question while wiping my sweaty hands on my straight skirt.
“Don’t be. Mr Ashford isn’t that fearful and he’s the most friendly boss I’ve ever worked with. He’s kind and easy going but that doesn’t mean you should get on his nerves. I would advise that you shouldn’t do anything to make him angry because then he wouldn’t hesitate to send you out.” He advised me with a polite smile.
This made me relax a bit…..but I was still scared.
“Thank you.” His smile widened.
“Don’t be, just do your best to be polite and then you’re on the team.”
Ding!
The door opened and we stepped out.
“I hope you’re ready Ms. Adler?” He asks.
I took a deep breath before nodding my head.
I was ready.
