Are you a fan of mysteries?
How about treasures?
Growing in a family where the unknown was being known by us, was never been easy for me.
Our family does consist of treasure hunters. Fame, money, spotlights, and the flashes from tons of cameras are normal to us. Our family name is known to the whole world because of it.
We're so damn famous to the point that it pressures me so much!
Every generation in our family has given a task to do. My Mom and Dad were already done with their given task which is finding an ancient mirror from a hidden island. That mission only took Mom and Dad seven months to solve. The mirror was famous in ancient times and was stolen by an unknown person from a rich family. Finding it and showing it to the whole world without hesitation gives us billions of money and fame.
I'm an only child and doesn't have any boyfriend because I was being sheltered until my legal age. That means I'll only solve the task that is given to me alone. I am pressured to the core knowing the fact that I'll be the last person in our family's generation to solve the last mystical mission.
My family believes that I can do it, they even said to the media that if my parents did it only for seven months then I can solve mine earlier. Eyes of people were now on me, I even became the talk of the town.
And I don't like it, I really don't.
My plan is to only accomplish the task given, fast. After that, I'll go back home like nothing happened while holding the said treasure.
"Who's there?" My grip on the map I'm holding tightened.
I'm peacefully chilling here in a middle of a forest when I heard the dried leaves on the ground just beside me getting stepped by something... or someone.
My body immediately reacted to that sudden sound, my heart started banging so loud inside my chest the moment I stood up. I roamed my eyes around the forest, on the giant oak trees, huge rock forms, and even on the glowing moon above me.
My long chestnut brown hair swayed in the air when the cold night wind blew. I cleared my throat before speaking again.
"Is anybody there?! I demand you to come out from where you're hiding if you don't want me to check you myself!" I seriously shouted. I held my backpack tightly together with the map.
The bushes just at the side of my eyes moved. My head and body instantly turned in that direction. I waited for a minute if someone or something hiding behind it will come out to face me but, that moment didn't come.
I rolled my eyes. I was now starting my mission and I can't believe I'll experience this kind of thing. I don't like it when someone or something is hiding, be it hiding something or hiding from me.
I sighed.
I did the move. My feet and legs hurried to the direction where the bush is, and when I'm almost near from it, the thing who's hiding behind it moved again. That forced me to fasten my walking.
But I was too late, the thing from it moved from the other tree and bushes before I'll get to see who's behind it. My legs and feet strode for a run.
I need to see who that is!
I took the flashlight out from the pocket of the lengthy pants I'm wearing to light out the way in front of me when it started to get dark.
The branches of oak trees here are far bigger than the ones earlier, it's blocking the moonlight.
My feet ran while following where the sound is, I moved over the large trunks, roots, and bushes while trying my best to not get tripped.
I was running so fast until I heard the sound slowing down its pace. I wiped the beads of sweat forming on my forehead.
My running slowed down, I was now walking but still making sure that I will not lose the sound.
Suddenly, my eyes widened when I slowly heard a faint sound of water in the direction I'm heading. I unfolded the map to check if there's a waterfall located here or something. It took me a while to know that, there is!
I got excited for whatever reason.
My running started again. I was smiling from ear to ear as I made my way to the large oak trees. I'm halfway there.
I successfully got near to the sound. The dried leaves that are scattered on the surface didn't fail to make a sound every time I step on it.
When I already spotted the thing I was chasing that is carefully hidden itself finally on a large rock, I ran more, making me laugh evilly in my mind.
"Gotcha!" I smirked.
My body moved to the side of the rock.
The light from the flashlight I'm holding turned to it instantly.
And just like a dead leaf falling from a tree, my smirk was immediately washed away when I saw who's hiding behind it.
It's just a deer.
I don't know why I'm feeling a bit disappointed with what I saw... maybe I'm expecting something else?
I sighed.
Then what is it Mauve? what is the other thing you're expecting to see instead of a deer? A killer?
I shrugged while trying to calm myself from all of the runnings that happened. My legs suddenly feel tired. My feet feel tired. My body feels tired.
I need rest...
My eyes flew to the view in front of me, it's not too late to know that I'm now in the falls. Feeling exhausted, I started to head my way towards it.
Maybe I could just spend a little time here? I will still have a time to find the mysterious passageway to where I need to go, for sure staying here a little to chill won't burn a lot of my time.
The water here looks crystal clear, I'm thinking that it could fill my thirst.
While walking near the falls, I felt the deer move, my eyes turned to it again. It's looking at me too... while showing a bit of anger in its eyes.
A bit of anger?
I raised my eyebrows when it started to run. It's running towards me! The fast beating of my heart began.
I am wrong earlier when I thought that this deer is innocent, I didn't know that this animal is the killer itself!
My sight and attention focused on it. The flashlight fell out of my hold. I forgot that I was near to the falls the moment I turned my head to face the scary dear!
I was about to turn my eyes to the front when I accidentally tripped myself. My eyes widened with shock as I hit my head with a rock. After that, I just felt my body delving on the ice-cold water of the falls.
