While I was busy eating my sandwich, Evan's group caught my attention. They walked into the cafeteria like they own the place, with all the eyes looking their way. There are actual celebrities in our university, yet Evan and his friends can steal the spotlight from them without a sweat.

Even I, can't deny the fact that they were all charming. Logan and his brown messy hair, Jeremy with blonde hair, looking smart and innocent because of his glasses. Then there's Evan, what seems like the most popular one in their group, had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. They had this intimidating aura around them as if only the worthy is allowed to go near the three.

With all of that said, I still refuse to worship them. All I want is to keep my distance.

The only reason they got my attention was because they sat with Mike, a classmate of mine. Logan placed his arm on Mike's shoulder, while his friends also occupied the once empty seats. It was obvious that Mike was uncomfortable.

The students inside the cafeteria didn't mind even though it was clear that they were, in a way, bullying the poor guy. As much as possible I wanted to avoid their group, they come from wealthy and powerful families. I wouldn't want to mess with them and make my life more difficult than it is now. However, my conscience won't let me off the hook.

I wanted to continue to eat but my eyes kept going to their table.

I sighed before standing from my seat, I left all my belongings on the table. There weren't a lot of students around so there are a lot of empty seats and tables, I was lucky enough to have a table all for myself.

I approached Mike's table and stood next to it. They only noticed me the moment I spoke.

"What do you guys want from Mike?"

I do not wish to offend them because I was afraid they'll take my scholarship away. I'm also aware that they can prevent me from getting into another university if ever I get kicked out of here.

"Who are you?" Logan asked, he had a smug look on his face.

I'm not sure if he doesn't really know who I am, even though I've been his classmate for more than I don't know three months now? Or maybe he was just being the sarcastic jerk that he is. I almost rolled my eyes.

My eyes roamed their table, Jeremy was on his phone, while Evan was looking at me with amusement written on his face.

"Weren't you the same girl who interrupted us last time?" He asked.

"I just want to know if there's a problem here, so maybe I can help..." I want my life to be as peaceful as it can be, I know that starting a fight with them will take away the small peace I have in my life.

"Well, Mike here said that he will do my project for me." Logan's eyes switched from me to Mike. While Mike's head was lowered, I felt bad for him. "But it's not done yet and the deadline is just a few hours from now."

They're huge jerks. They don't go around and bully students by taking their money or beating them up. They just simply don't care about anyone but themselves, I feel like they're also the type that thinks everyone is inferior to them.

I recently found out that Mike's father works for Logan's Dad, that's probably the reason why Mike would obey his every command.

"You mean that project for Miss Coleman's class? I have one, you can have it," I said. I didn't have any troubles doing that project, I'm confident that I can make another one to replace the one I'll be giving to Logan.

Logan looked surprised for a moment before he laughed. He stood up from his seat and went to me. He patted my head which made my eyebrows furrowed. They were all extremely tall while I was around five feet.

"I guess that settles it, " Logan said.

I heard Evan chuckle so my gaze shifted to him, but I quickly looked away when our eyes met.

I was about to leave and take Mike with me but then a group of girls came to the table. One girl stood behind Evan and wrapped her arms around him.

The three girls that just arrived were all looking at me so I didn't know where to settle my eyes at. I hate these kinds of situations.

"Who is she and why is she here?" the girl asked.

I understand why she's so possessive, Evan is the campus' biggest playboy. I've only been here for three months but I already can't count how many girls I've heard and seen him dated.

I don't even know why they still try to win his heart. They're either fooling themselves or they just want to be a part of the long list of girls he dated just so they can brag about it.

He may be a player, heartbreaker, or whatever you call it. But even I can't deny how good looking the guy is.

However, no matter how perfect they say he is. I don't think I'll ever let myself fall for someone like him. Actually, I don't think I'll ever let myself fall for anyone. So that makes me one of the very few people that aren't attracted to Evan.

"I was about to leave actually, uhm," I turn to face Mike. "Mike, let's go?"

Before Mike could even stand, Evan already stood from his seat and walked to the side so he can face his uhm...Girlfriend?

"Why do you care anyway?" he asked, his annoying charms were gone and now. His cold voice were enough to bring shivers down my spine.

"Babe, I was just asking." The girl crossed her arms.

"Stop calling me babe, we're over. You're too clingy," Evan said, coldly.

I kept my mouth shut while I wish for the ground to just swallow me so I won't have to be here with them.

"W-What!" The girl was shocked, her eyebrows furrowed as she looks at Evan.

I don't know what Evan looks like right now since all I can see is his back. Jeremy sighed and took the fries that were on Mike's tray and started eating.

"Evan, let's talk about this. Why would you suddenly..."

"Dump you? I already told you, you're too clingy. Don't talk like what we had was something serious."

Logan was now in front of me, standing next to Evan.

I looked at Mike and luckily I caught his attention. I tilted my head to tell him that we should leave. He then moved towards me and stood up.

I immediately took his hand and dragged him back to my table, I made sure that they didn't notice us at the same time I moved quickly.

I took all my belongings from the table and went out of the cafeteria. I'll just give the project to Logan later, for now, my energy is already drained after the conversation earlier.

"Thank you, I had an emergency that's why I couldn't finish his project on time. I'm sorry...You had to defend me again." He kept looking at the ground.

"Did you tell him that? Plus you aren't supposed to do his project anyway."

"I haven't got the chance to tell him. Don't worry, he pays for it. And my father works for their company, so I can't say no to him," he said.

"His father is just your father's boss, they do not own you or your family, Mike," I said.

"I...Well, I get your point. I just want to make sure I stay on his good side, I don't want any conflict between us. And he pays me for the things I do for him. I just get scared easily that's all," he tried to explain.

It wasn't my business, I don't have a say in his life since I don't know him well or the things that happen in his life. So these decisions are his.

He offered to repay me or help me do my project to replace the one I gave Logan, however, I refused.

After we parted ways, I went to the staff's building. We're allowed in there because of some rooms in the building that the students use. As for me, I go there often because of the rooftop.

No, it does not have a good view or whatsoever. It was nothing special, which is why it's always empty. The other buildings' rooftops usually have a few students occupying them.

I prefer to be alone, so I went up to the rooftop and sat on the floor. I took out all the things I need for my project from my backpack. I also placed my phone beside me and plugged my earphones in.

I listened to music as I do the project. Good thing my mom stopped calling. She's been calling me nonstop since yesterday.

I didn't like the idea of her getting married to Alfred Lawson. He was older than my mom, has kids, and he's filthy rich. I know that there's a tendency that my mom will just ruin his family the way she ruined ours.

I finished the project right away. I stayed on the rooftop until our break was over.

I'm also a bit confused because I checked the stairs before I got to the rooftop, there were no cigarettes there. But when I was about to leave, there were two used cigarettes on the stair.

I always have to clean up after the guy that leaves them there. I was afraid that if the staff found them, they won't allow the students to go to the building anymore.

The hours went by quickly, the next thing I knew I was already in front of our apartment. My mom is probably at his new husband's house by now.

So I did not expect to see her as soon as I went inside. She was sitting on the sofa, clearly furious.

I didn't go to her wedding after all.

I didn't know what to say to her, it feels like I'm in front of a complete stranger rather than my mom. She stood up and as soon as she got near me, I felt her palm on my cheek.

She slapped me. It was so hard that my face turned a little to the side.

My lips slightly parted. This isn't the first time she did it so unlike the first time, I can fight my urge to cry. My cheeks hurt, but my heart was already used to it.

She was now wearing a luxurious red bodycon dress, matched with her red stilettos and gold jewelries.

"You are ungrateful. I gave birth to you and this is how you repay me? With disrespect?"

I may look like a selfish brat that's preventing her mother to find happiness again. A selfish brat that didn't go to her mother's wedding. A selfish brat that disrespects her mother.

But I'm also the selfish brat that worked during the time she doesn't want to!

She couldn't keep a job because she says it was too cheap for her or it's too hard for her. So she forced her child to work, to work and support her!

"I sacrificed so much when I gave birth to you! I didn't love your father, I lost my youth because I got pregnant! I lost everything when you came! You are selfish!" Was it really my fault?

It hurts whenever she tells me that she never loved my father. Because my father loved her. He did. He did!

Even if she told me that he was lying, that he never loved her. I knew he did!

I did everything to pay for the youth she says she lost. However, it was never enough.
