Honey Samuels
"Please doctor, how can I arrange such a huge amount in one night?"
I cried with joined hands, pleading to the arrogant Dr. Phil who wasn't a bit fazed by my tears. My mother is on death bed and yet this heartless man is asking for advance to start the operation.
Phil huffed and looked away, clearly expressing his displeasure by my constant nagging. Adjusting his glasses on his crooked nose, he turned to face me, "Listen, Madam, I can sympathize with you but I can't breach the policies for anyone. We can only start the treatment after the downpayment. I am not asking you to pay the entire amount but you have to deposit at least 10 million dollars." He stated firmly.
My jaw dropped to the ground.
"10 million? Doctor I told you I am not financially sound. I don't even have 2 million in my account, how can I arrange 10 million? All I have is my house as an asset but I can't sell it in one night. I will put it on sale tomorrow, I promise but please for God's sake-"
"Enough Madam. Either arrange the money or shift your mother to a cheaper hospital. You shouldn't have come here in the first place when this place was out of your budget.
You're educated and I am sure you know that the treatment of this hospital is costly. I am giving you an hour, arrange money or we will discharge your mother," Spouting venom, Dr. Phil walked past me leaving me paralyzed in shock.
"M-Mamma..."
Tears blurred my vision and slowly cascaded down my cheeks. I remained rooted in my spot for a minute as my mind turned blank. Helplessly staring at the white walls, I looked around trying to find a source of help but the people just walked past me while giving me weird stares. They are affluent and busy. They don't have time for someone like me who is nothing in front of them. Like they were watching me crying and sobbing and the way Phil shouted, I am sure the entire hospital would have heard my sob story but no one cared. Pfft, why would they? I am really stupid to even think something like this.
Wiping my tears with the back of my hand, I took a deep breath to calm myself down. Tears kept pooling but I willed them back and settled my hair.
Exiting the hospital, I quickly headed to Brooks Corp. Only he can help me now.
I was driving rashly. These days there is too much rush in the city. My heart nearly lurched in my mouth when I dodged an Audi. I tried to slow down but the thought to save Mamma had turned me crazy.
"Shit!!"
Before I could comprehend, I collided with a bike and fell.
"Argh!!! You idiot!!" The man shouted as he howled in pain. Wincing, I pushed myself up with the help of my elbows and glanced at him. His sleeves were torn and the moment my gaze fell on his bloodied arm, I knew I was in big trouble.
"I-I am s-so sorry Sir. I didn't mean to-"
Ignoring my pain, I quickly lunged for his help but by doing that I only entered in a big mess as the people who were earlier acting like mere spectators suddenly jumped to action. I turned numb when they circled me and the look they gave me it was clear that they had already declared me as the culprit.
"When you don't know how to drive then why the hell do you come out?" One of the men screamed at me. I dropped my gaze to the floor, ashamed and embarrassed to bone.
"Madam, are you blind or what?"
"Stupid girl."
They all started shouting in unison. I took off my helmet and shook my head. The tears I was trying to hide immediately started dripping down as I was being cornered.
"I already knew that this is the work of a woman. Why did her parents even bother to give her a bike? It's all their fault." One of them sputtered catching my attention. My gaze instantly morphed into a glare. Lifting my head, I scoured the crowd to spot him.
Molten rage surged in my veins as I marched towards that old portly man taking him off guard. Stopping at a good distance, I pinned him down with a fierce glare.
"Look mister. I know it's my fault but I was in a hurry. My mother is on death bed. I know you don't give a damn about my problem but that doesn't give you the right to bad mouth about my parents. I respect you but if you say one more word then don't blame me for what happens next with you."
My threat was met with shocking gasps. But I was too enraged to pay attention to it. That old man broke into cold sweats. He didn't expect my comeback.
Jerk.
Giving him one last glare, I rushed to pick up my bike and was about to ride it when a cop blocked my way.
"Not too early Miss."
He whispered before giving me a smirk. I paled in response.
What have I landed myself into?
End of Honey's P.O.V.
Brooks Corp.
"The presentation is fine. I give it a pass. Natasha, arrange for the meeting in the evening. I want the job to be done by today itself."
A deep voice rang in the four walls of the lavish cabin. His words brought wide smiles on the faces of his staff who silently patted their backs. Natasha, his secretary leaned forward to take the file. Her eyes shone with admiration for the man whose gaze remained fixated on the screen.
"That's great Sir. I will definitely arrange-"
Her sweet words were cut off by a loud bang. Everyone flinched in their spot when the door suddenly burst open revealing a girl who was a mess.
The man who was earlier sprawled in the chair immediately sprang up and pushed the chair back with full force. His face lost colors watching his heart sobbing like a broken soul.
"Honeybun!!"
"Ian!!!"
Honey cried and ran inside with wide open arms like a child. Natasha stumbled when Ethan suddenly pushed her away and rushed to hold Honey who crashed into his arms. He immediately secured her fragile figure in a protective grip and started patting the back of her head.
"W-What happened baby? What happened?" Panicked, he tried to inquire but Honey was too shattered to spill the beans. She was afraid, broken, and hopeless.
Ethan was crushed by her painful sobs. His heart was bleeding but the thought that his entire staff was present clicked in his mind. His expression hardened within a second as he whipped his head and shot a glare at his people who cowered in fear. His one look was enough for them to clear the arena. Without wasting time, they quickly collected their stuff and scrambled away but not before closing the door.
Ethan heaved a sigh. The muscles in his jaw slacked as his gaze softened. An expression he wore only for his Honey.
Moving back, he gently cradled her face in his palm and made her look in his eyes. His features twitched in worry when he noticed her swollen red eyes and crimson nose. The fact that his Honey was in deep pain didn't settle well with him.
"What happened Honeybun?" He asked her softly. Honey sniffed. His words only brought a set of fresh tears in her baby blue eyes.
"Mamma," a croaked whisper slipped through her cracked lips. Ethan immediately turned alert. In no time, she blurted everything and by the end, the man was seething like a volcano.
Fury crashed into him like tidal waves. His hands itched to demand the blood of the bastards who made his girl cry. But Ethan swallowed his anger. His face remained blank, devoid of any emotion but his mind had started to weave a destructive plan for her wrongdoers. He will make them regret their existence.
Wiping her tears with the pad of his thumbs, he caressed her face and proceeded to wipe the sweat beads from her forehead.
"Go back to Aunt and let me deal with everything, okay?" He coaxed Honey and squeezed her shoulders. She looked at him confused.
"But Ian, Mamma. Dr. Phil said that he won't start the treatment until-"
"Nothing will happen," Ethan interrupted her as he placed his index finger on her lips. Honey blinked her eyes; she was taken aback by his action but Ethan simply smiled at her innocence and flicked her nose with his index finger.
"You told me everything, right? Now let me handle it. You just go back and wait until for me. Hmm."
His puzzled words went completely through her head. Nonetheless Honey complied. Sighing, she turned around and dragged her feet to the door. Ethan slipped his hands in the pocket of his pants and watched her leave. He had read her face. She didn't believe him but he was fine with it because he was in no mood to reveal his cruel plans to her.
She was too innocent to understand his devious side.
As soon as Honey left, Ethan fished out his phone and dialed a number. Ire flickered through his eyes resembling a blazing inferno as he placed the receiver near his ear.
"Put Phil on the line."
