* Plot:

The story begins with gift, crying on her mother's grave. She requested to know the reason they left her in this world to suffer.

She later found herself in the presence of her aunt, whom hollered at her and ventured to kill her which she narrowly escaped. Gift was later forgotten by the Alaba's family.

Quarrel began in the house as the children bagan fighting about house chores as they were so lazy to do do house chores since gift wasn't around to do the house chores for them.

Mrs Alaba was sacked from her office for no reason, she ended up having a nightmare that got her scared to death.

Mrs Alaba regretted all her actions and begged for forgiveness from God. Segun later found gift and was so happy. He broke the news to his mum and she confessed all that she did to gift.

Mr Alaba later died which also made Mrs Alaba health to deteriorate. Segun later found favor in the sight of gift when she was about traveling abroad.

Prologue

Gift woke up one morning feeling upset about the way her aunt hollered at her the previous night. Her aunt have once sent her to the stream by night to fetch water this is the second time she will send her to the stream by night again. Gift watched as her aunt wasted all the water in the house by pretending to be washing the toilet with water. When gift saw aunt her coming towards her, she quickly pretended to be asleep.

Gift gift!!! Her aunt called.

Yeah yes… Yes ma: gift said dizzily

Stand up immediately and go and fetch water in the stream: her aunt ordered her

Aunt, tomorrow I will fetch the water: Gift replied

There is no water in the house and I have not finished washing the toilet and you are telling me rubbish, go to the stream immediately I’m fetch water before I count 1 to 10: her aunt barked

Gifts walked dizzily To the stream at the middle of the night.

She immediately, saw an old woman and the dizziness disappeared

Who are you and why are you here: the woman asked

I am Gift Alabi the daughter of Mr and Mrs Alabi my parents were killed during a local war in our village with another village. I now lived in my aunt’s house where she maltreats me, she asked me to come to the stream and fetch water by this time of the night: gift said confidently but a little bit frightened

Go back home: the woman said and disappeared as there was a flash of Thunder

Gift saw her parents coming out of the water with grave clothes, she fell down and fainted.
